Thread: Architects who rename furniture...
Mafukie wrote:Why?! Why do architects rename the furniture, for example:Orignal name: BookcaseNew name: Custom Bookcase by AgertariaIf anything it makes you lose sales because people can see that... I think its the most annoying thing ever, so people who do it STOP! LOLI don't care who made it, if I wanted to know I would examine the peice of Furniture for the object creator.I see so many people doing it with furniture it makes shopping for orginal named furniture a task
We (ahem I) rename furniture because I personally can't stomach the uninspiring "stock" names that they come with. Your example Bookcase (Master Architect piece). I name things what I would like for my abode. Bookcase in point might read:
Marble Bookcase with Ancient
__Grimoires of Sith Ideology
Potted Tree, Style One: Kashyyykian Ironwood Tree
Etc., Etc..... Now, for adding the name of the creator, I agree. If I really want to know who made it, I'll examine it. I know, I know, but it's advertising. Hogwash!!! Did YOU pay the customer to take your furniture from you for display in their homes? No, they paid you. If you give away furniture with your name in exchange for advertising, great. Fair trade.
Alright I'll stop ranting. The point is, if you want to make a name for your self as a furniture vendor, give the client lots of options. If you want to sell personally named furniture at a reduced rate compared to UNIQUE named PREMIUM furniture, that would be an option. 100,000 credits says the client will chose the unique furniture over "Bookcase by Bob" any day.
Sorry for the rant.
Cheers

Hehe. I have a problem with getting orders for a "bookcase". Sometimes I don't think they realise all the variations we have.
On a side note, I found out something that was interesting to me and thought I'd share. You all know the double name line trick that can be used on house signs? Well, it works on crafted items too. I've started redoing my shop so that I'll have the second line display my prices now. Just thought it might give some people new ideas.
Are you complaining about the rename or the fact that the architect put thier name on it?
1) "Branding" an item with the creator's business name:
I did this when I started out because I was selling primarily on the Bazaar, and I was trying to establish a "brand". Then I did a couple of decorating jobs and *I* decided (not the customer) that I thought it looked tacky. So I stopped doing it. However, one thing I'm very aware of in both the physical and virtual worlds is that *MY* sensibilities are not necessarily your sensibilities. I try not to judge other folks by my feelings about esthetics.
2) Custom Labeling:
Putting aside specific customer requests (e.g, "Bob's LazyBoy Chair", "Medical Reference Books"), I choose custom labeling for two distinct reasons:
a) There are multiple items with *exactly* the same name for the schematic. For example, we have 3 bookcases, 3 armoires, 4-5 couches, etc. Communicating with a customer about those items, keeping track of my sales, etc all are made easier by having "Bookcase - Metal", "Bookcase - Wood", and "Bookcase - White".
b) The names are so brain-dead as to be embarressing. If I went to a nursary and they told me they stocked "Potted Plant, Style 3" I would walk out!
And even though it disappears the first time you redeed something, all of my harvesters are NOT labeled "Deed for: Deep Crust yada yada". They are labeled "BER13 / 121K Hopper Heavy Chemical Harvester by Zalle". It's clear, it's descriptive, and customers like sorting the vendor and being able to see exactly what they are looking for. In the case of harvesters, not only are the names brain-dead, they are confusing - I see no point in perpetuating that confusion.
sure you can.

Ive named all the furniture ive put on my vendor so far....those small plants are 'Dragons Teardrops' and I have other themed stuff. Will never put my name in it, its just a shame I cant do factory run of stuff with these personalised names. (at least I dont think I can...?)

Oh, I don't mind cool names on the furniture, I just hate it when people put theirnames on it, it makes the decor look horrible and 'bazaar' bought. I don'teven like it if they put their company name in it.
for the furniture achieved at master I like: Master Architect Bookcase, Master Architect Chair, ect.
My post was more of a rant because I am trying to furnish my house and all I was finding for the past two hours was furniture with peoples crap tagged to the names of the furniture.
Then custom order your furniture from your favorite architect, who I'm sure would be happy to name your furniture anything you'd like.
