It looks like we're not getting any direct benefits from it, but the shipwrightsare evidently gettinga new ship and new components. I'm happy that at least one crafting profession will benefit from the feature.

I've got to add, after perusing a weekend of comments elsewhere, that getting nothing is preferable to what some other crafting professions are getting.Hope and praythat we will notsuddenly require space-mined resources for, say, generator turbines or master furniture.

In considering the developments, and taking into account that most Architects also mine their own materials, it will probably amount to a good thing for us. I can assume that many of the base space resources will factor into some of our crafting somewhere, and this gives us an opportunity to have some fun with JTL that otherwise wasn't very crafter-centric. Piloting skills cost no skill points, so we won't have to change our templates (unlike every combat prof, and medical crafters...let's not even get into the AS issues
), and the benefits will be evident to us on some level other than credits. Why not embrace space mining as something the devs have given us all, rather than a missed opportunity to toss us a trivial crafting bone? I too was one of the nay-sayers over all the changes, but in retrospect I don't see anything here that "hurts" our profession, and lots that might make it rather exciting... but each of us needs to come to their own conclusion on that matter.

Looks like I was wrong about the new resources not playing a role in crafting. The last friday feature made it clear that the new resources could be sold in special space stations (or terminals) or used in crafting. I suspect that these resources will play a role in any new schematics: THe couple of new ships will likely use the new resources, for example. Also, I understand new weapon varieties will become available (ie: vibroknucklers that do different types of damage). I suspect the new resource types will play some role in the creation of these items too.
While I am dissapointed that our role hasn ot been enhanced, I am unexpectedly grateful that our lives have not been complicated in this manner.Crafting armor, weapons and starships will suddenly become more complex. While we were pretty much ignored in this update, at least we wern't hurt by it... consolation, perhaps?

This is the greatest forum in the game.
I loved the take-offs my wag-line generated. If you can't yet take what an American marketing behemoth can dish out, you had better grow yourself a thick skin very soon.
