Thread: who will be able to make vehicles?
I'm of a mind that this is going to fall under Architect.... but with HEAVY collaboration from Droid Engineers, Artisans, Weaponsmiths and Tailors. There will be subcomponents from damned near every Artisan class.
Droid Engineers will provide the little "Control Units" blah blah.... Tailors will provide the "Upholstery"... blah blah... Weaponsmiths will provide... oh some weapon mount or whatever... Artisans will provide all of the generic components... and the Architect will complete the assembly and sub-component chassis thingies.. (yes, that's a technical term).
Of course.... I'm most certainly wrong... but there's my cent-and-a-half.

Sold from NPCs? ![]()
Seems to run contrary to everything else in this game. Maybe they are looking for a credit sink? (Then just have garage fees).
I'd greatly prefer them craftable. Welcome to Star Wars, where becoming a beautician is much more involved than something like vehicles.
Oh, and Devs, fix my character please.
sounds most likely like hmmm...horse bridles....EQ../yawn.
Tho I am sure ours will be immersive in that its a "commlink" or some such crap that "summons" a vehicle to you.
I think they should be crafted by Master Artisans only, I mean why else become a MA? Droid Engineers can still make Droids and what do droids have to do with Vehicles? I don't want to buy a Vehicle that has a Droid driver, I want to drive it myself.
I also don't want them to be non craftable in the beginning either because whoever gets to make them is going to get screwed out of a lot of money this way, not fair IMHO.
Thats my two cents on the matter.
Someone posted on a baord which I sadly cannot recall at this time - about digging through some DAT files and finding schematic names for vehicle components. I don't recall them all off hand, but had stuff like different hulls, drive units, controls, weapon mounts.
I do know that afeew months back us weaponsmiths had two schematics that were uncraftable because it took a component that was not craftable. The schematics were the light weapon mount, and standard weapon mount, and the missing component was a 'Targetting Computer'. The schematic has since been removed from the datapad, but the potential is there.
So while anywhere else on a vehicle we may not be sure where a droid engineer comes in, it might be that they come in as part of subcomponent construction as I can't think of a better profession to make Targetting Computers than DE's - though that is a pretty small bone to throw to those poor guys. It would be cool form my standpoint as a weaponsmaker to have to collaborate with a DE to make more intelligent weaponry - mounts that adjust for speed, distance, tracking, and so forth - after all I just make the shooty thing.
I seriously hope it's player made and it would be cool if it was cross profession but it then begs the question - who gets the final vehicle schematic? If we put it in Master Artisan then we'll see a lot of car salesfolks!

The devs have posted that vehicles will NOT be craftable at first. They might make them so later, but nothing has been decided. At this point it looks like vehicles will be purchased from NPC vendors. This will be really interesting since it will be the only item (besides junk) with a static price on all servers.
Wow, a credit sink. That's a good thing in an economy dangerously close to hyperinflation due to Holocamping and duped credits (Holocampers are legit. Dupers aren't.)
But it's another nail in the coffin of the player-created economy. *sigh*
Why didn't SOE just bite the bullet and make Holocrons for sale from NPC vendors for $1M? (Or from NPC doctors who'll do a Midichlorian Count for $1M once a month if a timesink was also required to keep us in the game for four months of grinding?)
there will never be a true economy in this game unless they start revoking accounts for people selling things below an invisible floor.
Hate to say it, but NPC sellers is a good idea, if (I repeat... IF) they intend to include a new vehicle builder class when the Space Craft expansion comes into play. Otherwise you're going to either have two classes able to build land crafts, or you're going to end up with one of the existing crafter professions being so ungodly financially powerful the the entire economy will fall into ruin.
Imagine giving the ability to craft a vehicle to a profession, then trying to take it away and give it to a new class.
Considering all the abuse they've taken I think it would be appropriated for chefs to be able to make vehicles
.
No no no NO NO NO NO NO NO
It should be a new class called what??? Vehicle engineer..
who ever thinks this should be under arcitect,, well give me some of what your smoking. Last time i checked vehilces where not made by archiects
