been a high volume architect for a long time, and i have found that the absolute bar none best way to rise your business over another architect is TO KEEP A STOCKED VENDOR. Harvesting resources means working on a deadline, and there is nothign worse than needing to get to a spawn soon b4 others do, and you cant find a stocked vendor. Every single customer I ask says this. So my advice to anyone wanting to distinguish themselves is to advertise (of course) but more importantly to keep your vendor always stocked with harvesters and make sure ppl know it

Being able to do large special orders really quickly also helps alot too

I think this is very important, vendors which are nearly always stocked. I even go so far into having crates of all pieces of furniture in backstock, so I can easily restock my funiture vendor when someone comes by who needs to decorate a Guild Hall or something. I also have all components in backstock so I can easily restock harvesters, houses or other structures. And people know this. When someone thinks 'Hmm, I need a Tatooine Cloning Center', they're almost certain I have it in stock.

And another thing I'd like to distinguish myself from other Archis, is the addition of decorating loot, like Alderaan Flora, completed Loot Kit items, those Woven Baskets, Loudspeakers, factional furniture, quest paintings, and so on. And that is where most of the fun I have comes from. To find new stuff I can offer my clients. Like Pawlin said, everyone can make a BER13 harvester...

Did that customer come up to you and say:

"Nice Hoppers!"

then offer to buy you a drink?

Vendor being full is a big one for me too. Theres been times when Im an architect and I need to grab a few more harvesters for lets say a good spawn of a resource that I dont have the harvesters on me for.
I can go around to 5 or 6 vendors and not find what I need, seems most people only stock medium and heavy minerals. Get some variety and get the chems, gases, and floras on there as those are the ones people need in small numbers rather than a large order.

heh, i always end up stealing harvs from my own vendor whenever i need more. Also, because gas harvs take so much damn hq steel/metal, i dont actively stock them very often (each gas is like 6500 metal/steel or somethign rediculous like that). So to aspiriing archi's reading this thread, if you are limited in resources I would suggest NOT stocking gases to any more than 5 at a time. MasterArchitect is absolutely right that you need variety, but make gases your last priority, just below waters.

On a more serious note, I agree with the earlier posts about stocked vendors. When I mastered my first crafting profession, it took me a long time to locate vendors with a selection of harvestors and factories. I spent ages planet hopping to complete my collection. Since then, I located one architect who is always stocked to the max. Its no surprise that he is the most well known architect on my server. I go nowhere else now. Guess its just a convinience thing.

I agree with keeping the vendor stocked as the biggest difference, theres so many architects on myserver that stock one type of house, mineral harvs and the 3 types of furniture that sells well. And when the customer comes to a well stocked furniture vendor, he remembers and comes back. Which again makes it incredibly important to keep that vendor stocked. If it isnt, youll never see him again.

Also being in popular shops makes you distinguished.

Another good idea to be different from everyone else is to make special items, like fireplaces or fishtanks or other "hand crafted" items. Theres plenty various fireplaces and fishtanks out there, and keeping a stock of 2 or 3 different ones in containers, and maybe even supply the customer with a macro to put the thing up by mail will make him tell all his friends about you.

My tricks though, is to have as much as possible on stock, I always stock 30+ different sorts of furniture, and just about all deeds, shame people keep buying all my guild halls.

But get an ore contract with 2 or 3 people and dont stop till you can control your vendors, keeping a ready stock in case you run out. And do keep lots of reserve harvesters. On our server resently, a Irolunn Reactuve Gas spawn of 996OQ made everyone get gas harvs, being able to supply all customers when something like that gets along is a huge plus.

I haven't gotten into it yet, but offering to decorate houses or at least give hints and tips as far as decorating goes also go a long way.

Something I am doing... I am keeping an Excel spreadsheet of my furniture stocks. Everything gets a special name so when it sells I know what it is. For instance, the n00b furniture is name Rustic. If I drop below a certain amount of that furniture, I restock it. It's a pain for customers to go through 50 chairs when the one they want in the yellow rounded one. Meanwhile they have gone through everything named "chair".

Make it easier on your customers by having stock and unique names and you'll have repeat customers.
