as far as I know total resource shift takes about 48 hours for all types and locations, I am guessing this is when you caught it. I could be wrong but I have seen the same happen. I also believe it is on about an 6-8 rotation for shifts so Harvest like heck and move on. Good Luck to you so far my run up artisan has been fun now I just need Apprentice Points to get Master.

It varies somewhat server to server.

Currently, in Starsider, we see a few resources shift in and out every day. Most resources last at least a week, some have lasted longer.

On some servers I understand it works as described above. Indeed, up until last month, Starsider shifted every 3-4 weeks and everythign shifted at once.

The down side to the current system is it is hard to keep track of what moved in or out on a day to day basis, on the plus side you dont have to rip up all your harvesters on the same day which was a little too much like work to be a game.

I know that the resources shift every so often. How often do they shift? And how do you find out which planet the high quality resources are spawning on? I am looking at this more from a meat/bone/hide perspective then the minerals and the like.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Like most things in this game, exact info on resource shifts is rather hard to come by. Basicly when a new resource spawns it will stay for a while, usually about 5-7 days, then go away forever. They don't all shift at the same time, you just have to keep checking to make sure the resource you are harvesting is still on the planet. If you try to hand sample and it says "concentration too low" even on high percentages, then that resource is about to leave.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

I'm kinda new to this stuff, but I'm trying to get a little ghetto mining operation going, for some supplement income to my BH missions. Is there a set time for resource shifts, or it 100% random.

Its random. If there is a method to it, no one knows it. I've heard that different resources shift at different rates as well. So some might shift after a week, others 2-3 weeks. You best bet is to go to swgcraft.com to keep up with the shifting. They tend to have up to date info on current shifting on each server.

Interestingly they've made it so that maybe one or two resources at a time shift out, and I'm not positive but I think I've actually seen where resources in a specific location deplete but aren't shifted out.

To me as a casual player it almost makes more sense to just leave my harvesters where they are and mine the best of whatever appears with each shift, rather than going through all the time and effort to reposition things every few days. Unless I find something real sweet like the latest Ditanium steel on Naboo, Starsider.

I'm new to the personal harvester thing; just got myself one, since I'm a combat player looking for extra resources and cash. What exactly is the resource shift that you're talking about? Do stats on various minerals/chemicals/ores go up/down periodically, or what?

It's not random, at least it shouldn't be Some servers may differ due to bugs hehe...

But resources should stay once spawned from 5 - 7 days. That is the rule.....

However either intentionally or just a bug, or fluke during times when resources are shifting. (usually several shift at once), sometimes a resource can appear that will not stay very long at all, hours to a mere day or two.

Baring that it will last 5 - 7 days.
