Thread: The Urban Planner Thread
My problem with the Urban Planner is that it is based off of Master Artisan. Muh? If anything, it should be based off of Master Architect - you know, the people that actually build structures. Besides, an "Elite Elite" profession ought to be BASED off an Elite profession - last time I checked, Artisan was not an Elite Profession.

Yep, it is based off the master Architect profession, hence elite-elite
Tired eyes and all that.

Ahh, sorry about my rudeness, I am just pissed that a game I spent over a year and a half anticipating is screwing me over less then 2 months in.
You're flipping out over something that is still mostly on the drawing board.. jeeze man, give it some time before you get a bug up your ass.
I think making city planner an elite-elite profession is a great idea. City planners should have to give up their merchant and mining skills and have newer players perform these services for them. Someone could have the entire architect tree, 3/4 of the artisan tree, 3/4 of the city planner tree, and still have 75 skill points left for combat and scouting skills. Is that even combat skills to solo a Kryt dragon? No. But it is enough to take down mid level creatures or make an important contribution to a group.
And if you don't want to be an urban planner...great. As has been mentioned each server will probably only support about ten and by the point cities are implemented, there will be plenty of master architects.
Here is the quote from Q
"We have already begun implementing some of this on developer servers. There are still some things to work out so this is not final (in fact, there is a little more than listed but we don't want to promise something that isn't 95% likely). In the next couple of weeks we'll give more info on the two new professions that are related to Player Cities."
Please note that some of it is already being tested on the developer server. Also that they will be releasing more info on the two new classes in "a couple week". This indicated that they are done and are being checked for playability, bugs, and exploits. That isn't on the drawing board. They are testing a prototype.
"All of the new structures for player cities will be craftable by players. Parks, hospitals, and even the city hall will all be available to the new Urban Planner profession. This is an 'elite-elite' profession only available to those few who have mastered the Architect profession. (More 'elite-elite' professions will become available in the future."
All you know about Urban planners is what that says, so hey, all I'm saying is wait till you know more about the profession before you start screaming that the sky is falling.
As for not being on the drawing board, stuff that's in testing, can be changed big time before you even get a glance at it.
as the other guy said....artictect has turned out pretty dull.... it was kind of fun in Beta...but in retail its more or less a let down...as i said ina nother thread i found master architect to be a very hollow accomplishment...there is really no point in even being a master...i could deal with NEVER builing a PA HAll...
now urban planner, yep, unless i get more skill points count me out...there are other fun things that i can do and crfat using my other skills...this makes up for the dullness of archtiect...i dont want to give up anything..
and as the guy said...how many will the servers even need..once the shuttle port is in thats in (They must add decay to shuttle ports, I hear the idiots shouting)...sounds like a lot more grinding for not a lot of return...
And be real...this is going to be dominated by the PAs as well and they will have the first UP's and they rest of us will just be trying hard to catch up. The PAs are going to be the ones starting the citys anyway and they will use their own architect and your services wont be needed....about all you will ever get to do is install the one traffic light in some 3 house village 20 miles from the middle of no where...
I would rather see the energy being spent on architect...there are structures in game that i want to have schemtics for (that 3 level tattoine house the NPCS have for instance)...i also want to be able to build bridges and do landscaping...
I say there is no need for UP...just add the skills to architect
I have got a whole tree thats useless to me, not much variety when it comes to homes, the lowest paying credit to reource ratio in the game... but hey, lets make it even more pointless to be an architect, instead of giving you new buildings we are going to make you master a whole other profession on top of architect. I am sorry, but this is not the right way to go about adding content. I can understand the politician (barely), but to force master architects to have to get a whole other career to build the new buildings, what is next, Underwater construction specialist? It wont end, instead of adding content to the existing careers they are going to force use to take up new careers to build the things they finally do add to the game...
I am canceling my account due to this. It wouldn't be so bad if it weren't SCS, I could log onto my other character and go hunting with my guildies while my factory churns out the structural modules, or go dance in the Cantina while I wait. Hell, I wouldn't mind if my second character couldn't have lots, just something to do with my friends while I wait, is that so much to ask? Aparently it is...
Oh, and no, you cant have my stuff ![]()
I love the idea. I think the addition of more and more classes, elite-elite or not only helps the game.
How many Master Artisan/Master Architect, Marksman, Scout, Creature Handlers does the world need? I've even got Novice Pistoleer in there as well, and some Merchant. Sheesh...It would be cool to be able to actually be a little more specialized. If I so choose...if not then there's nothing forcing me (no pun intended) to give up that diversity to become elite-elite.
If you think this is trouble just wait...imagine the classes that will pop up in the Space expansion.
I for one think this is great news.
