Thread: Prices(Mad)
I've stopped attempting to compete in the housing market on shadowfire. Fairly new server with everyone pushing for mastery forcing the market down.
Instead I've made myself a very nice little business off furniture. Customers seem to have no problems paying what I feel to be fair prices for furniture but will bulk if the same price structure is applied to installations or houses. I do make houses and installations on a by order basis but I don't lower my quoted rate (4-5cpu) unless they are wanting to trade large amounts of needed resources as a bargaining chip.
My current price structure for furniture is 1 credit per unit per skill level of the item (novice 6, furniture I 7, ect.) I then add 2 credits per unit for any hides or "rare" materials. Keeping the bazaar and my vendor stocked takes most of my in game time.
Everyone is looking at this from the architect's point of view. You don't want to sell for less than x times what you spent in resources. But remember that the person who buys/doesn't buy the item really doesn't care about that. He or she simply wants the best prices available. When you shop for a car, do you really care how much the dealer paid for a car? No, you just want the price that is best for YOU. That's just the way business and competition works. Since there is no decay on these items, what value does it provide to a buyer to get the same house for 10k or 20k? It's not like the 20k house is of any better quality than the 10k-priced one.
Well I just break it down the simple way. I charge whatever the (*&% I feel like. I get my fair share of "Your a 9*)&^ ripoff!" and "Thats too much man..."
Guess what? I don't give a *edit**edit* what you think dumb*edit*.
If I don't sell some housing/factories/pa halls/harvesters for my prices. I just wander over and sell the stuff on the bazaar for 8cpu. Oh there's always some stupid weaponsmith who needs atlantium ore too, well he pays for it now! Berrylius copper you need? I have some here and and it's good quality. Can you afford it is the question. Hmmm, 50cpu now? Do I hear 55?
Basically I've learned to screw with weapon/armorsmithsas the architect profession is screwed with. I harvest therefore I have. After all if they're going to make 26.25cpu per unit average minimum, I may as well pry the cred out of their hands.
Yes it gets irritating that people try to say we rip them off with houses. Yet guns and weapons sell for 20k and up with no problem. I stick to my prices though. The other day I had a guy ask for a medium house. He asked how much and I told him 60k. He went on this big rant how I'm ripping him off and stuff and said he would look elsewhere. The funny thing is that the Architects in our region all know each other and we kinda help each other out. He didn't know that their prices were higher than mine. So later he comes back and asks again... um what was your price for a medium? So i said it's 65k now! The point is that we can't let people destroy our business. Weaponsmiths are raking it in. But if we keep caving in to people then we are killing ourselves and our business.
Your friendly neighborhood Mon Calamari.
He came back you raised the price 5k, HAHAHAH. Thats funny as hell. I've been making most of money with my alt doing missions. Been giving away stuff to guildmates mostly. Next couple days I'll start playing with the jackasses and try and get some cash using my vendors. Thanks for the useful info on prices and telling guys to f off if they don't like it. ![]()
Basically I do 4cpu if its something I can make in under 5 minutes (by hand) and 5-6cpu if I have to change factory in and out a bunch of times to get something. Then I just put it on my vendor. And then I just stock up on resources. I only need to sell one heavy harvester a week to maintain everything I have so it works out well. Resources pretty much go for 3cpu on bazaar on Lowca so I think 4cpu on small items is very reasonable. I don't make many small items anymore though. Architect just has no staying power as a profession, maybe we'll get more people buying houses when vehicles are in and they wont have to walk for an hour to find a good spot to place. Heres hoping...
