Hey all, been reading up as much as I can about being an architect but thought I would ask the people who post here more about it.

Do you like being an architect? Is it a fun crafting profession? I have never done a tradeskill before, but do enjoy Architecture in real life.

Is it rewarding? I mean can you sell the stuff you can make pretty easy? It is not very important, but I would like to sell the things I make.

Being a newbie to tradeskills, harvesters, and pretty much everything Tradeskill related, is it fun to start up and pretty east to pick up?

Any and all advice/opinions accepted, just want to see what ya'll think.

Yes I truly enjoy the architect profession. Starting out i didnt make much money because the only real seller was small house so i ran missions to keep me going. Now that im over 3 quarters through it i seem to be doing ok money wise but that isnt my main concern. Nor is mastering it anytime soon my main concern. Now on the crafting side the higher ya get the more the pain in the arse it becomes until ya make a factory(grinding out 10 walls sections all tho good exp is quiet boring unless a friend is around to keep ya company). other than that yes i really enjoy the profession and the contacts and friends i make. i have come to know many resource sellers and other countless people that have truly made this game enjoyable for me. I normally craft one to 2 items per day then spend the rest of my time running around with friends fishing decorating my house seeing the sites taking my mount for a ride and on and on. Now for someone like you i cant say this is the way you intend to go but making money and mastering isnt what is important to me. Im taking things slow and just having a good time with friends. So if this helps you at all god speed and enjoy the only down side to the whole crafting is if you plan on doing alot of grinding ya will spennd less time socializing or so i have come to notice so good luck to you and enjoy.

I love it. As ysonge said. I too had to run alot of missions (Architect was my first profession... tried to start weponsmith, but I had a hard time), so I chose to do Imperial misisons. It took mea while to build up but I got some good stuff going, and now here I am.

yup i like it , started off a weaponsmith and hit master swordsmith before i realised i was selling nothng and couldnt afford to but a harvie, so started architect so i could use what i actually made,,never regretted it.

The only problem i see is it seems opening an fs slot is going to be denied me because i dont want to lose architect and holocron hunting looks extremely dodgy for a crafter.

It's OK...it's nothing like being an architect, though, which I thought I'd mention since you said you enjoyed architecture in real life. We don't get to design anything, ever - the most creative thing we get to do is interior decorating, which can be a lot of fun if you like that sort of thing. I mastered the profession a few weeks after release so I had more business than I could keep up with for a while but I gave up dealing with the general public so I really have no idea what the market is like now.I had lots of fun when I startedArchitect and I still like it even if it's not as exciting as it used to be, although I, too, feel like I have little chance at opening my force sensitive slot since I wouldn't give it up to get the points to do something else.

I enjoy it but it's not profitable to me, too many other artichets ruined the market

Yes i do enjoy it. Thru fair pricing and good businessmanship i've been able to build up a base of happy repeat customers. I had my PA helping me to grind durin the initial race to master, but that was mostly cash for training and harvestor lots (and some sampling). I try to minimize the grunt work, letting my factory make pretty much all the components, letting me give better customer service and expand into the resource market a bit as well.

I to don't want to give up arch just cause some stupid little cube pulled off a corpse tells me too. I'm having too much fun being a successfull businessman.

I like it.

I started my character on day on of my server but struggled early on. People just weren't buying houses during those first weeks. I created a combatcharacter on another server and played that until I was bored. Going back to my original character, levelling was a snap. Cash flow as master at first was the hardest problem, but I found creative solutions. Now I thouroughly enjoy the breadth of this profession. One night I might be decorating a house while my factory churns of crates of torches or generator turbines. The next night I'm standing outside the starport filling orders for large houses and PA halls. A few days later I'm locating resourcesand stocking my vendors with furniture..nextI'mgathering materials for harvesters.. Lately it's been a lot of fun with the player cities as well.

Therein lies the question to the question: How do you make money at it.

Before even getting past novice I was running around finding all the good shops, places where people would make some things that I know sold for more on other planets, buy those things, and deliver them with a markup in person to people that would mention a desire somewhere in a remembered conversation. Being a straight architect is almost impossible, IMHO. You have to not only get Merchant to do well, you have to ACT LIKE a merchant. You have to create those relationships (business and personal) that lead to future business.

All said, not that much unlike RL.

I loved it at first. Then I began to despise it. I found though that the reason I despised it was because I was trying so hard to gain xp and not focused on being an architect to help others. So I began to make business contacts. I hung out in cantinas while I crafted. I set up a vendor and sold furniture. I didn't have a PA to fund me with anything so it was a long process.

The point is I started interacting to a greater degree. People began to know who I was. I had numerous repeat customers. For repeat customers I would give discounts(people loved that). I made sure that everyone knew who this crazy Mon Cal was. After awhile wow, I made master. Yea sometimes I wish I was that Master Gunfighter that looks like fun, but then some commando would blow my head off and I would be mad. So I now take pride in my Master Architect title and just try to have fun. It's sometimes hard with problems and bugs. But if you ever get so upset that you want to quit, just turn off the game for that night and start again tomorrow. Trust me it saves your sanity.

Also ask the boards for help too. There are a lot of good people here who give great help and advice.

It's fun when we have the resources to craft with, we just need the large amounts of ore that are needed to build everything.

What's even more fun is creating a city, knowing that you built the whole thing

I like it cause i can make the most stuff. only thing i dont like is the fact that i cant get any help getting my resources back from a bug. Do a harv run collect all the resources, find out im bugged, log, resources gone. other than that its real cool.
