I will admit it...I'm a dabbler. I will most likely master architect but not any time soon. Right now I want to be able to make my own medium harvesters which means installations II. So what kind of BER can I expect from a medium harvester if I just go straight to installations II without going up the experimentation tree?

Thanks

Probably pretty low around BER5level. You would need the experimentation points in order to experiment up themining component first and then the final combine as well. SO lacking the experimentation points will hinderyour max BER twice over.

I'm uncertain what the actual BER number would turn out to be (probably a tool out there somewhere that can calculate it), but in all likelihood, the resulting BER would not be much worth your while on harvesters you would want to use for yourself.

It would be like as if you had to travel 60 miles on an interstate highway, but your vehicle will only go 10 miles per hour instead of 60.

Honestly, ever since they put in the harvester experimentation, I've suggested to aspiring architects that they buy some top-rated medium harvesters (and perhaps even heavies) to get themselves going. You need a lot of resources to grind up the architect tree and you will do it much more quickly if you have a good harvester fleet. You won't save yourself a lot of money by struggling to grind up, only to find that you can make BER4-7 mediums.

Im an imp pilot 1/1/1/1 and am almost ready to train in my first box of tier 2. Is it wiser to train first the skill for using better equipment or the skill to use the next level starship (which would be a Tie/in). Im already using a regular (notlight)tie fighter which has no hyperdrive. Im dont have a missle launcher or countermeasures equipped either.

It seems to take so long to fill each box and Im wondering what would be better for getting faster XP and completing the Black Epsilon missions.

I would recommend going for component certifications before new ship certs until tier 4, when you can either get the Advanced (a very big upgrade from the Interceptor, mostly) or level 8 components, which you won't really be using any of anyway. The TIE/In is a nice upgrade in mass, but right now your components are light enough that shouldn't be much of an issue just yet.

Having a missile launcher isn't terribly important, but I'd try to find a level 1 chaff launcher for a countermeasure. It won't cost or weigh much and there's no need to soak missiles if you don't have to.

I trained:

x1xx

x1x1

11x1

1111

1112

1212

2212

2222

2322

2323

3323

3333

4333

4334

4434

4444

Had my chips and FC ready to go for each level as I got there, with Overload3's and whatnot. Using WO3 and EO3 you upgrade the 2 most important parts of your ship, and the enemies are not yet tough enough to warrand needing a shield upgrade.
Having Cap overcharge and C2SS available at Tier3 is as good as another Cert level on your shield.

Personally speaking, when I went through the Imperial pilot profession, I always trained equipment first, then chassis until I hit Tier 4.

Here's why:

At the lower equipment levels, you're not going to fill up your ships full mass. Not a chance, unless you somehow loot something weird. However, once you hit Tier 4, you have a problem. Level 8 components are heavy as hell. You WILL fill up your Tier 3 chassis if you try to use them.

But until then, go equipment, chassis, special commands (third tree), droid commands. You'll fit better equipment in your ship and not be shelling out the big bucks quite so fast for chassis. Depending on the special command you get for that tier too (bstrike being an example), I might actually train the special command tree before chassis too.

Again, that's my personal preference.

I alway pick equipment until tier4, since each grade of SW crafted goods is a big step above what you had (your old max dmg is now your min dmg on an SW crafted gun for example) In tier4, the only cert you get is for a level of looted components, so unless you have the loots waiting and ready, you can choose somethign else easily. Droid programs do help immensely, and its often worth doing what 1st_Vid did, if you have everything ready and know what you want and need, but the improved offense and defense of new gear is just as potent as more droid programs.

I pulled the wanted parts from the 11k noob ship and went with a crafted 12k+, using only cap, engine, and shield, and using RE'd/crafted for everything else.

I can manage to fit a cert3 shield and gun in, and cert2 engine, and leave everything else (or pull a plate).

Incredible isn't it? At Tier1 there's not enough mass in 12k to fit properly, yet there's more than enough to get the job done.

As an imperial, "Filling up the mass" is so easy as to be laughable.

Shipwright is a crafting profession that requires Engineering IV from the Artisan base profession and something like 30K generic crafting xp before you can train novice shipwright. It takes a few million resources to master, too (literally), so if you're serious about it I'd advise getting some mineral harvesters down on some steel as soon as you can.
