Thread: Regarding the planetary city cap
I was considering the posts that have said that the max number of metropoli that will be allowed per planet will be anywhere from six to ten. So, I grabbed a map of Naboo from Allakhazam's and took a look at it. By deciding to use only the gridline convergences, each a kilometer away from the other, I started to place theoretical city centers. I used photoshop and a brush size that equaled about 500m in diameter. I'm sure that in many places I misjudged geography, but it still looks like many more cities thanten could be placed on Naboo.
Can someone poke some holes in my hypothesis?
Here's the addy for the picture. I hope it works. If it doesn't, you couldtry the sameexperiment just as easily.

looks good however most locations their will not be enough buildable space for the 40 or 50 citizens it takes to make a metro and still have all the city buildings as well. However I think tenmight be a little low?

Walk around alittle more on corellia thats where i gerw up
so i know most of the planet and i have to tell you that there are LOTS of good flat spots for citys. im sure you are forgetting about that huge flat area north of coronet 3km or so at the lake very nice area that 5 or more citys would fit in.
Those of you who mentioned the 1k buffer zone: Are you certain this applies to PACs? Existing dev-built cities have that 1k no-build zone around them, but I haven't seen anything which indicates this is the case for PACs.
In the collected thread Info: Politicians & Player Cities (http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=TestCenter&message.id=28722) by the ever-helpful Plinka,

When it comes to placing your hall, it's not the present size of your city, it's the maximum size that is checked. The hall has no way of knowing how many residents you will have as you place it, so it checks against the minimum distance to another city hall, 1km. If the distance is greater than 1km, then you'll be allowed to place your hall there.
In that regard, player cities are going to be first come, first served and there will probably be some anguish and wringing of hands.
An important thing to keep in mind is that cities aren't design to be small, private enclaves. They are instead intended to foster a new dynamic of cooperation and competition within large groups and it's going to be fascinating to watch how these new dynamics play out.
There may not be room for all of the cities that are being planned and you cannot exclude others from your city. Politicians will be competing for the votes that give them temporary control of a transitory office.
That's why I chose to put the city beginnings on the grid convergence lines, as each is 1km from the other. In the same thread, Plinka also wrote (taken from the Holocron):
A player city cannot be placed within a kilometer of another player city. The description indicates that this is measured from city hall to city hall although it does not explicitly state that. That leaves a 100m buffer zone between player cities.
This would enable each city to reach metropolis size (500m) on the convergence lines, easily, without overlapping another city radius.
I think you have to be a full 1k from the end of a static city boundary and in addition be 1k from another city hall. So those two factors will limit out a lot of possible locations since most cities will be more worried about ensuring their spot and not other city's spots.

It's not just the issue of placement. Remember the cost of upkeep. Reading the threads over on TC, I see that a bank, clone center, shuttle and city hall are currently running about 330k PER WEEK in maintenance. This does not take into account parks, terminals, trainersand other perks like specializations....
Ignore me, I got confused. However, I thought the coordinates were by meter, so a planet would be 12k x 12k with about a 17k diagonal?? I might be wrong though. =/

I'd like to see another representation with the city centers pulled 1k apart rather than 500m.
Ack. I thought that's what I did. I was under the impression that each planet was 16km x 16km in dimensions. Is this not the case? If it's not, someone please tell me. If it is, then each gridline convergence point should be 1km from any adjacent one.
