How do you folks deal with requests for free items, and do you get a large amount of them? Lately, I have gotten quite a few requests for 'free' guild halls, city halls, etc... High ticket items that use alot of resources. One person asked me if I would 'sponsor' their city, i.e. give them everything they needed to start a city at no cost. My counteroffer was that if they bought in bulk, I would give them a 20% discount. Once they planted their city hall, they ended up not getting enough people to join, the hall went 'poof'. This person then proclaimed that I was at fault, and I should replace their city hall at once. Ummm..... NO. After a round of very rude tells from them, I told them to find a different archy, banned them from my tent, and placed them on my ignore list. How would you have handled this situation?

I do get requests for free furniture - and I turn them down all the time. I simply tell them know.

In your case with the city hall going poof - I would have suggested that they ready the politicians forum and have enough citizens before they start to build their city.

I would not have gotten into a "tell war" with them - the first nasty tell from the person would have been a ban from my tents and put them on ignore. I dont play the game to get that kind of treatment from anyone!

As a general rule, I don't give anyone anything, unless they're a real life friend.

But as for strangers asking for things, my price is my price. They can always try to haggle with me, which is welcomed. I try to stay competitive. But I refuse to give anyone anything for free...unless it's super, super cheap to make and very quick to produce - like an odd droid storage compartment or something, so they can whip up a customization kit.

Why don't I give people free stuff, usually? Because then they think you'll ALWAYS give them free stuff. It seems almost inevitable that someone who got something for nothing will always want more.

I either tell them no, or tell them that if they bring me the materials I need, then I will assemble it for free...and no, I'm not coming to you, and yes, it really does take that amount of resources to construct a guild hall/city hall/etc, and yes, it really does take that long to assemble it.

I have had a couple of instances where people would get mad at me because I couldnt build what they wanted because my skills wasnt high enough (architect 3102 at the time) I told them if they wanted to wait a day or two I would probably be able to level up and built what they wanted. So in turn they called me a dumb noob and that was it.

Ive had people get mad at me because they say I charge to much (looking at other vendors and the bazaar I price most of my stuff a little below market price) They even get mad when I dont make them something for free.

I try to be helpful to others because I hope that when I need help people will help me (Doctors for healing and Driod Engineers for parts) and most of the time they do.

I certainly don't give things away for free to strangers.

I don't get beggars or scammers. But I think I might have it so I'm not searchable. I think lots of those requests tend to come from unsolicitied tells after someone dida search for architects. I also don't wear the master architect title. That alone means I never get the "u build pa? when?" type tells.

Only people who get free stuff are my real close friends and the mayor of the town where I live. When anyone asks me for free stuff I just say nope sorry. Then don't answer anymore. And if they don't get the hint ban them just like you did Money is hard enough to come by being an Architect

When people ask me for money, I always send them a wp to the row of money dispensers outside the Coronet starport.

I'd say you handled it just fine with the possible exception of engaging them after the first nasty /tell. I do free stuff for my PA and nobody else, but often get people trying to solicit free housing. I kindly direct them to my vendor where they can find all manner of reasonably priced structures for the planet I'm on - at the first sign of hostility I cut them off with a sincere "It appears that you would be better served by a different Architect, as apparently I am unable to meet your expectations. Thank you and good day." Futher negativity results in "Congratulations! You have the distict honor of being added to my very short ignore list." /addignore OffendingTwit; this is a much milder approach to persistent and obnoxious begging n00bs than my previous "Alright, alright I do it as long as you can pick it up right now...I'll email my WP" /email WP to Dath Sarlaac;/addignore OffendingTwit;
