Thread: Walls in Factories Temporary Fix
This can be a little troublesome as well, but it works. Haven't read all the posts, so I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet.
You just need 10 crates. If you want 50 walls, make 10 crates of 51 bricks (one from each to make the schematic). Put the 10 crates in the factory, plus the resources, and let it run. I've done this 3 times so far with no problems. Hope it works for the rest of you.
The problem with using just one crate (or any amount less than 10), is it takes one item out of it, fills one of the brick slots, then considers that resource used. When it can't find another crate, it eats the resources and bails out.
I've been planning to do this for a week and finally did so this evening to no avail. Zero items created.
Tell me, are you using the same schematic for all 10 struct mod crates? I was not. My struct mods came from 2 different schematics. Perhaps this is my problem?
OMG. If this is in fact working, then it would seem to me to suggest where in the code the breakdown actually is. Hopefully the devs see this and fix the code!
uuhh...I just load in all my modules...90 and 2 resources and I've had no problems at all...the only downside is that I just make 9 at a time...but thats no biggie
well...actually the thing that really sucks is that I'm gonna make like 80 walls tonight....ahhh...thats like hours just loading my factory x.x
sil
lets say made 100 structure modules in a factory
you now want them to be 10 wall units
currently the crate of structure mods will bork in the factory
in this example what would you do differently with the crate of structure mods to get them to work?
It sounds to me like you should then be able to make any number of walls, as long as you have 10 crates, all the same size.
Put in 10 crates, each with 5 structure modules, and you should get 5 walls.
Put in 10 crates, each with 22 structure modules, you should get 22 walls.
It also sounds like what he's saying is that you don't actually need all 10 crates to be from the same scehmatic. But what you need to do is make your blueprint using one module from each of the crates you intend to use.
So, you make 10 crates of 11 modules each, using whatever schematics you want for each.
THEN, you pull one module from each crate and make a schematic from those.
Then you should be able to put the remaining 10 crates (now with 10 modules each) into the factory and get 10 walls out.

This sounds great, but I'd like to hear more confirmation it works before I go to the trouble of making a bunch of smaller crates. The time you spend waiting for them to run, reloading the factory, etc, may not be any less time than you spend manually unloading the modules into the factory, unless you are trying to make more than 9 walls at once.
philomorph - thanks for re-explaining that.
So the magic number is 10 crates I guess.
wish they would just fix it though...
Philomorph has it right, but let me try to clarify this further. All of my runs were of 40 walls. I'll just do a step-by-step of how I do it.
1. Make 10 crates of structure modules. Yes, they normally output in one crate of 100. I just put in enough resources for 50, so I don't have to tend the factory incessantly. Make one schematic for structure modules, load it in your factory, and only put in enough resources for half of them. When it quits due to lack of resources, pull out the crate of 50, put in more resources, and start it back up, so you get one more crate of 50.
2. Do this as many times as necessary. I end up making 5 schematics for bricks, and do 2 runs of 50 from each, for a total of 10 crates of 50 structure modules.
3. Pull one module out of each of the 10 crates, and make your wall schematic using those.
4. Load the wall schematic into the factory, load the 10 crates of bricks, and the raw resources required to make the number of walls you're looking for.
5. Start the factory and watch. As it makes one wall, each crate of bricks gets decremented by one. At this point, you should be able to let it run and go about your business.
NOTE - from my past experiences with power cores, make sure you don't load any crates directly from the output hopper to the input hopper. This shouldn't be a problem since you need to pull one item out of each to make the schematic, but there's something going onthats not happening until you pull the crates into your inventory.
To clarify, you need to load 10 crates into the input hopper of the factory. These don't need to be from the same schematic, in fact, you can't have them from the same schematic due to the 100 item limit per schematic.
If you want to make a crate of less than 100 structure modules, just run enough resources to make the number you want. Make 50, and your schematic will still have 50 uses left. ---Maybe the devs can make it possible to split crates as a temporary fix to help out a little??
Hope this helps clear some things up.
I have no problems whatsoever if Iput in 90 structure modules (not in factory crates) and 2 resources...I get 9 wall units...and if I repeat the process I get 18...and soforth, I dont have to empty the output hopper or anything crazy like that 0.o
and I'm doing it as I speak...
