Thread: Another BER10 Question from a master architech ..............

Yesterday I gladly accepted an order for 8 BER 10 mineral harvesters insisting I could easily have the order done in a couple of days .I get my light ore mining units up to 93% before they max out (which im sure should be fine for a BER10).I use my highest quality materials (steel 940+ on stats needed and ore 900ish+ on stats needed) and the extraction rate is about 27ish % after construction .However EVERYTIME I experiment I only ever seem to get moderate successes and create about 50% ber 8 and 50% ber9 .I was so confident on filling this order however its seems all those master architech exp points are useless in this situation .Any ideas why Im getting such crappy results after a dozen or so attempts without a BER 10 ? Any advice would be helpful and appreciated

Only advice I know of is to stop making harvesters and take a break. Maybe go fight some Chunkers or something for a bit or craft a few Muzzles. Maybe by then the bad luck will have worn off.

Bad experimentation has seemed to come in spurts like that. I can get a zillion "great successes" with maybe a rare "failure" or "amazing success" thrown in and then one day its nothing but "moderate success" and "critical failure" like 10 in a row.

May just be pure coincidence or bad luck. Or their pseudo random number generator might need a wack in the algorigthm.

Any chance this is related to the crafting tool or crafting station? Seems unlikely if you get such a good result with the ore mining unit but it might be worth a try if you're not already using the top quality tools.

could be your crafting station or maybe you used bad chemical.

Make sure that the chemical you use on the LOMU is Lube Oil. If it has any UT/SR/HR you bring down your units. 93% should get you to BER 4 on the units, but not sure. Using Losa or Pemi steel (on sunrunner), I can always get to around 95% or better on the LOMU's

In order to get BER 10, your first result (first combime) needs to be at BER 7. This will ensure that you get to BER 10 with one or two exp points left (at around 83-89%) If you are still on BER 8 or 9 when you are at 83% then you won't make a 10.

And again, make sure your using Lube Oil or petrochemical for the chemical, not Fiberplast or Polymer.

I agree with Pawlin about the random number generator. I think it's out of whack. I can go for literally days on end without a single critical failure and then one day I'll get strings of them in a row. That's when it's time to go whack a few meatlumps.

I don't think you meant that as a flame but it could be taken as one.

I think you were saying that even though we are masters we don't get the success rates that a master ought to have?

One thing I've noticed is that I get many more moderate/good results when I try to use more than 4 experimentation points at a time. At 4, other than the obvious occasional crit fail or amazing, I get great successes every time.

This suggests that even though that annoying little risk meter shows 0%, attempting larger experiments in one shot are still higher risk than smaller steps.

For the record, I use +15 tools and a +43.24 station in a Research Center.

as a master crafter I get about 25% failure rates (meaning less than great successes) using 14.90 tools and 40+ stations

The fact that you're getting a 27% quality on build is good. This means you're using good materials. I almost invariably get 28% starting with the materials I use which are quite good. I get to BER10 at around 85%, if I recall. Can't say exactly, been a while since I made a medium.

As the others have said, make sure you're using a high quality crafting tool and if possible, use a high quality crafting station in a town that has a research center bonus.

I would certainly check out your crafting tool and station. I used to get poor results in the beginning, I checked my tool (no comments please!) and saw it was around 8.0(+) and 59 %, I got some of that 1000 oq copper and made some new ones at 15.0 and 99%. My crafting station was -11 (or something like that) I invested 50k in a 43+, my results instantly improved and I hardly ever get less than 'great success' now on experimentation.
