Greetings,

I'm from the Starsider galaxy and I was thinking about starting a Martial Arts Dojo. As I am not too familiar with the structures and the furnitures, I turn to you architects to helpme on designing and decorating the place. What structure would best represent a dojo? Is it a PA hall?A large generic house, or maybe a city hall? As you can see, I am at a loss so any input or advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have some ideas that are floating in my head that I'd like to see though... maybe a dueling area with an elevated spot for the teachers to watch and oversee. Maybe a large fire mantle or torch, meditating rooms, gong structures, different weapons hanging on the wall. I've also seen a large "Buddha" like statue... basically, just some other oriental things that could possibly be seen in a dojo.

Well, I know this is not much but I would just like to hear any ideas that you might share. Again, any input/tips would be of great help to me.

Thanks for your time.

(If any architects are for hire and have some ideas in the Starsider galaxy, just send me a PM or message me in-game. Of course, talent fees would be compensated. Thanks.)

I'd have to give that a bit of thought, and even take a look at the available schematics with that idea in mind...

But I can at least say that there are two Lamps that were added to the game a few publishes ago that have a very "oriental" look to them. I think one is called "Razorcoil"... and I'm not sure what the other is called. But that's a start, at least.

Heres a quick idea for sparring dummies...

Decorative basket on the floor (or some other small item to act as a base)

wood of metal staff sticking up from that.

Bone armore chest and helm on top of staff.

Other than that, maybe an ornate rug as a floor mat (if you can find one) and tons of weapons on the walls.

Another idea would be to peruse Garva's floorshow, looking for ideas. By looking through all the things others have done (it has screenshots), you can get an idea for what looks how when placed just so...if you get my meaning. Then you can play around with ideas inyour head.

As a building, I think a Cantina would look well decorated as a Dojo, but you need to be a Chef or Entertainer to drop one.

Oops, forgot some things.

The low to the floor small black table would also work extremely well in this setting. You could use one in the very center of your mediation area, with a single wonderful looking item exactly in the center of it, and nothing else on it. Say for instance any of the colored crystals.

If you go with candle arrangements, try small groups of say 3 candles, each of a different type. The tall skinny red one with two of the smaller short stubby ones close to it.

The tree plants would go well too.

Nicely placed torches would give a nice smokey, mysterious effect, and provide warm light.

Just avoid clutter and the cramming of too many differing things too close together.

I play on Starsider, I'm not an Architect there, but I'd be willing to give it a look and see what could be done.

Wonderful. Many thanks to all those great ideas that you shared. It seems that we are all on the same page here, as I too am aiming for a clean, uncluttered or a "minimalist" style of look. Great ideas for the training dummy, the meditation roomand lighting suggestions.

I've done some researchforthe building layouts and requirments. Ithink that I may eventuallychoose a PA hall for my structure since the other structures that I was interested in, I simply cannot place. (Cantina, City hall) I believe it has the training/demonstration area and the elevated areas that I was looking for. Also, I was thinking of maybe placing my dojo atop a high mountain orcliff of some sorts... basically just to give some more of a serene, "mystical" feel to it. So any suggestions as to where and what planet would be great.

Again, thanks to all those fantastic ideas... and please, keep em' coming.

Naboo comes to mind. Has lots of high mountains and some calm places to place your hall.

Another idea you may want to consider, some of the loot kit items (the rugs and the gong) might add more of an Eastern flair to the place. Only real problem is getting ahold of them as the parts tend to be quite expensive on Starsider.

Nice idea Cherokka, I was actually thinking along the same lines... Naboo and maybe Talus for their scenery and peacefull surroundings. By the way, I would love for you to come help me out. Although, I'm just still in the process of brainstorming... all help would be greatly appreciated. Just look me up in-game or send me a message if your free.

You might also want to refer to the swg-decor.com site. It has lots of pictures of the furniture items as well as the various loot items. Seeing some of the items available might give you some ideas.

The building is going to depend on what you're going to have available and want to expend for your lot useage. If the sky's the limit, some of the PA Hall buildings have the large rectangularinterior space with the stage-like higher areas surrounding it. The floor area of the center rectangular area would likely make an excellent fight/demonstration area.

I'm thinking keep furniture to a minimum, and clutter to an extreme minimum. Concentrate on the weapons display and play that up, and also the combat practice dummies that were suggested.

There is one type of streetlamp that has what looks like two rectangular, longish lantern like lamps on it side by side. Those used sparingly migh make a good tall vertical lighting accent, and you can do something creative with your color selection as well.

The ottomans might make the best choice of all for seating elements, vs. any of the other chairs or couches do to its simple shape, and being low to the ground.

In another of your areas, you might do something along the lines of a meditation area. For that, think quiet, peaceful, serene, clean, simple. Small symetrical arrangements of plants, plenty of candles (set them right on the floor, or up a series of steps if you have any to give them vertical variance).

Clean, neat, uncluttered, lots of symetrical arrangement.

Its a wonderful idea you have there, I would love to see what you eventually come up with.
