I posted this in core systems but I think you all should see it too.

Watch for the character purge. I'm betting alot of those will go away.

I'm just hoping that the city I live in doesn't lose its "research center" status

Thats certainly an interesting idea. If the building was single-player owned, it would be a lot of lots I'm guessing, in which case the owner could possibly charge rent.
Or if it was worked in as a city structure, rent could go to the city.
There could be different sizes too, small (two renters), medium (4 renters), large (many renters).

Don't see how you could code it. What if the owner wants to delete the structure to place 2 factories? What happens to everyone who lives there?

Basically what I suggested in that thread, is that there would also be an option to store your items in your bank with a monthly maintenance cost. Consider this:
- 100 items = 1 lot = M Maintenance cost per week.
- If your apartment is deleted for any reason, all of your belongings are moved to storage.
- Storage is accessible via your bank terminal.
- The bank charges you while your items are being stored there.
- For every 100 items in storage (not your safe deposit) you are charged 1 lot, and you are charged M maintenance.
- If you are out of cash, your items will eventually be deleted.
Additionally it would be possible to transfer your bank storage to a new apartment when you find a new residence. This would be done using the interface on the apartment terminal. No actual item movement would be necessary. If for any reason you are unable to get enough space in your new apartment to hold everying, you will simply have to transfer what you can and continue payment to your bank for whatever had to be left in storage.
It would be an inconvienence to anyone who spent a great amount of time decorating their apartment, but nothing but time would be lost. The idea is to start living in actual cities rather than sprawling suburban ramshackles.

Why not only have the apartment buildings in the big NPC cities? That way there is no chance of a player deciding to no longer be a slum lord and making everyone homeless and I think it would reduce all the small houses and shops that spring up around places like Coronet and Theed. I always thought it'd be cool to actually be a citizen of Mos Eisley, and there are plenty of nothing buildings to spare. Of course there'd be the extra lag, and people spamming from their windows. And I guess it would put a damper on the player cities. But other than that smooth sailing.

The problem is that as soon as they go away, someone else who has been literally DYING to put a house down there will jump on the new spot instantly. I guarantee that the character purge will only momentarily reduce the number of houses in the congested areas. Ina month or two's time (especially considering the influx that will be caused by JTL) those areas where houses are missing will be completely filled in.
I play on eclipse (live near coronet) and already I see this behavior happening anytime a harvester or house disappears. People have even offered me large sums of cash for my house locations. And the reality is that all I ever wanted was a place to put my stuff that was convenient to a starport. With apartments, the city could choose to put them right next to a shuttle port. This would make it VERY convenient to get around. Also the storage of stuff would be greatly simplified as described in my post.

High Rises maybe...
The worst thing is when you have a city where there are 20 houses lined up end to end making a large roadblock. On Scylla there are 2 of them in prime surveying territory and they look like slums, low-cost housing projects for the needy and down trodden. Plus it makes it nearly impossible to get past. On a game that you pay for time played, it's a real hassle. I believe it's Mount Tanis or Tanis Town. One of JimmTanis' places. STC was a brilliant idea, but now it's looking like he's turning into a Slum Lord. The other is Apocolypse in south Naboo. Another brilliant failure...

Then one of the main ideas, for architects to earn more profits, would be gone.
