example.

furniture tree gets dropped into the artisan/dom arts tree.

Furniture tree gets replaced with Town Buildings

tier 1
Garage for vehicles
Small Shuttle Port (with player controlled prices)
Flags
Gardens
Fountains

Tier 2
Basic Insurance terminal(terminalthat uses game settings to determine insurance costs)
Basic Cloning building (same as above)
Structure place holders (to help facilitate your town design and prevent eye sores and unwanted guests planting houses in your town.)
Statues
Light Posts

tier 3
Mayors House (a 0 lot cost unique house that the towns elected mayor can use.)
Medium Shuttle Port. (this one is player controlled pricing and can drop off at waypoints rather than other shuttle ports.)

Tier 4
Intermediate CLoning Facility (player driven pricing)
Intermediate Insurance terminal (same as above)

Master
Starport (also player driven pricing)
Advanced Cloning facility
Advanced Insurance terminal

Like I said above replacing a useful tree with something else, while leaving a completely worthless tree intact is retarded. Why are you against this?

That's crap.

No architects make furniture in real life?

Well, they don't build structures either.

And,how many doctors do you know of that make their own medicine?

And, who pulls steel directly from the ground?

'Reality' arguments in games are usually weak, at best.

Bolrus has a good point. Architects don't build anything. But on the artisan class, it's not supposed to be an end all profession. It's a stepping stone to things above it. No one takes artisan because they want to build CDEF Pistols. It's mearly a path to things greater.

Dictionary defines Architects as - "One who designs and supervises the construction of buildings or other large structures"

However, if a person studies the fundamentals of construction and design, that knowledge can span the entire field. Any Architect would also know how to design Furniture. People don't go to college and major in Furniture. A person who can design Furniture could also design a building. It's all fundamentally the same. All things made need a foundation and supports.

You're talking aboutspecificallymaking buildings and city structures, which would be something a Civil Engineer does.

The term Architectdefines our class correctly, We're builders.

I think this is a good idea, I just have Furniture IV and that is taking up 20 skill points... for something that is definately not a "building" of any sort, furniture should definately be an artisan skill

Terrible Idea!

Last thing we need it to take away from those that already have so little.

Perhaps in another millenium after others are nerfed and we get lots and lots and lots of help, it might fit better in the artisan tree. But now, or at any time within the next two years, this would just be folly.

I have also noticed that the most successful Architects in-game get a majority of their income from Furniture sales.

The point I was trying to make was that while putting city specific buildings in the architecture profession is a good idea. (Which the orginal poster seemed to miss) We shouldn't be dropping anything from an already crippled profession. We have four skill boxes that produce no valualbe return or effect on an architect, why don't we do something about that first before we go cutting stuff out.

With plans to expand there could be many more crafting professions added. Inteirer Design, Civil Engineer, Spacecraft smith, vehicle crafter, and others. But all these will take years to get done. We can't get anything done with just the architect profession as it is now. So don't think too grand in the presant.

Zarcath, have the devs responded to any of your reports yet?

Frank Lloyd Wright designed a ton of furniture.

I believe furniture design is still in most architects curriculum.

Like I have said in the past, we're only Architects, we shouldn't be able to do everything. Until we see what role we take in Player Cities, it's all second-guessing. Once Player Cities are released, we will have solid factual information on how to proceed with the Architects future. But until then, we shouldn't be trying to spread out to cover the entire field.

No response from the Devs yet on any of the reports or inquiries. Hoping Q-3PO will get a response out to me today, when I hear anything from them, the boards will be the first place to know.

Actually many Architechts is real life design furniture, or at least used to. Frank Lloyd Wright (sp?) designed his homes and often designed the furniture for the style. This is not uncommon practice for many of the more prestigous designers. They also designed things like lighting fixtures and switches etc.. to go with thier home ideas.

Of course they did not do the actual hammering on the building, that is left to Construction crews.
