State of the Architect - Part 1
Hello,
My character name is Mitsudo, and I am an Architect. This document is meant to be structured similar to that of a State of the Game address. While my overall focus is in Furniture, thereis other Architect related information below. In Part 1 of State of the Architect, I've documented the bugs that I have encountered personally and included a few bugs that many say they are afflicted by. I'm currently an Interior Designer (Furniture IV) on Ahazi server, and I would like to discuss the possible future of Furniture in Star Was Galaxies, but for now I'll start off with bugs that need to be addressed. As mentioned, most of the subjects within will have to deal with Furniture, as I think that is the area of Architect that needs the most attention. Let me state now, that if there will ever be a separate class for Interior Designer, much like that of Image Designer, I would gladly switch without second thought. That being said, it is accurate in saying I am only an Architect so that I can build furniture.
The purpose of this Part 1 of the State of the Architect is to help other players be aware of potential problems that they may encounter.
----
These bugs are broken down into separate categories.
Bug/Graphic is a Bug that is related to a graphical error
Bug/Feature is a Bug that has a feature that is missing or not working correctly
Bug/Collision is a Bug that is related to collisions and clipping
Bug/House is a Bug that is related to housing issues
Bug/Typo is a Bug that is a typographical error and may cause confusion
Bug/Misc is a Bug that is not directly related to the Architect tree, but is possible for an Architect to run into
----
Bug/Graphic - If you do an action while sitting, such as change your clothes or weapon, your character will warp 5-10 feet off of where they were originally sitting. This leaves them floating in a sitting position.
Bug/Graphic - The House Sign for Small Generic House floats 10 feet away from the building, leaving it floating in space.
Bug/Graphic - The House Sign for Medium Naboo House is missing in action. The only thing that is viewable is the brackets for the sign.
Bug/Feature - All furniture items with Sit on the radial menu only have one spot to sit in. Couches that look like they could fit 5 people on, only have one designated sitting area. To make couches more desirable, besides look-wise, they need to have a set limit of how many people can be seated on it, as well as having the correct seating arrangement. The novice couch should only seat 2 people, while the couch from Furniture III should seat 5. All loveseats should seat 2. Chairs should only seat 1.
Bug/Feature - Droid Detection Unit does not detect droids. From what we've seen in the movies, the Detection Unit is supposed to light up and blink, while giving off a distinct noise to alert people of the presence of droids. Currently, the Detection Unit is always flashing, weather or not a droid is present, when a droid passes it, it makes no indication noise. To make this piece of furniture fully functional and not simply a novelty item, an option needs to be added to the housepermissions or to the Droid Detection Unit itself to prevent people from bringing droids past the Unit. Adding an optional Electronics GP module or Electronics Memory module would balance the additional features of the item.
Bug/Feature - The Free-Standing Lamp, Desk Lamp, Table-top Lamp and Table-top Lamp Style 1, none of these Lamps give off a lightsource. Also as a note, none of these items require an Electronics GP Module, the module is used in torches (the only lightsource furniture item currently). Perhaps changing the schematic to require 2 similar Electronics GP modules, and then giving it a lightsource tag, will correct and balance these items. In addition, the Desk Lamp and both Table-top lamps sit flat on the floor. Seeing as there are only 2-3 tables with different heights, making a radial option that will allow the Lamps to raise to the correct height of the table (height 1 matches table height 1, height 2 matches table height 2, etc).
Bug/Feature - The Ballot Box Terminal is classified as a Bank Terminal, and is not made in the Furniture and Structure Crating Kit like everything else in the Furniture Tree. You need to use a Weapons, Droids and Generic Crafting Tool Kit and a Personal Weapons Crafting Station to access this schematic. I'm not sure if this is intentional or not. Also the Ballot Box has an option on it's radial "Use Bank", when clicked nothing happens. Ballot Box Terminal does not have a radial option to pick it up, and you cannot pick it up once placed, even when using the /pickup command. When attempting to use the /pickup command you receive the following error message, "You do not have permission to access this container". Also the Ballot Box needs to have a time variation selection, my poll ended about an hour after I set up. There's no way, from the menu at least, to extend your poll to last days. Also, the xp you gain from making a Ballot Box is General Crafting xp and not Structure xp. Again, not sure if this is intentional or not.
Bug/Collision - The Toolchests and Crafting Stations have full clipping applied to them. All other furniture has no clipping, allowing you to pass through them. Toolchests and Crafting stations are the only furniture items that you cannot pass through. This could be intentional or a bug, however there are possible exploits or griefing that could arise due to it. I use two Toolchests to block off access to my storage basement. This could be reversed to block people in.
Bug/Collision - The Couch from Furniture III has placement problems. Many people report not being able to get the couch to respond to radial commands, some others have difficulty locating the correct area of the couch to click to select the furniture. A work around for it is to use the /commands associated with moving furniture, however in some cases you aren't able to use /pickup. In a few rare occurences the couch vanishes completely. However I believe this bug is actually related to the general bug that can sometimes occur when placing items ontop of another. Most people aren't aware of how big the couch in Furniture III really us, and it most likely overlays another object and then becomes bugged.
Bug/House - Balconies are not considered part of the house. You are unable to place any items outside. Droids have a flag that allows them to be called on in the circle of influence of your house. I'm suggesting making some new furniture items that are outdoor related, and can only be placed within the CoI of your house. Some houses have a walkway, I would love to put a plant outside or a torch.
Bug/House - The curtains in the Naboo houses have full collision applied to them. This can sometimes interfere with placement of furniture.
Bug/Typo - When depositing maintaince into a house, it will give you the incorrect house name in the confirmation. For example, when paying maintenance in a small naboo house style 2, or medium naboo house, it will reply that you successfully deposited the credits into naboo style 1. I'm guessing that the problem is because all houses use the same Structure Management Terminal.
Bug/Typo - The Tree you can make in Novice Architect is called Potted Tree, Style 1. This is misleading, as there is only one type of tree you can make.
Bug/Typo - There are two deeds named Small Corellian House Style2 Floorplan2, you get one at Building I and another in Building II, the only work around to distinguish which Deed you're building is by checking the Complexity and how many Wall Modules is required (one requires 10, the other requires 12). However the work around only benefits crafters, buyers will have no way of determining which Style2 Floorplan2 they're buying.
Bug/Misc - When creating a Vendor through the Structure Management Terminal, often players will "cycle" NPC Vendors to get the correct species. When destroying the Vendor, the graphical display for your inventory will show the space being emptied, however your inventory will not actually register the space being made. So after cycling through a few vendors, depending on how much space you had to begin with, you may end up getting a message saying "The Container you have selected is Full", when your Inventory shows you still have space left. I've had this happen to me several times, logging out does not seem to correct the issue, however dying did seem to work. After dying and looting my body, I had -19/60 items in my inventory. Screenshot can be provided if necessary.
Bug/Misc - If you attempt to reclaim a deed and there is not enough room in your inventory for the deed, the deed will vanish.

Please feel free to share or add any other documented bugs that you may have encountered. Please also look for State of the Architect Part 2, which will address additional properties and features for pre-existing furniture, as well as plausible additions to the Furniture tree.
Thanks for reading,
Mitsudo

I've experienced almost all of these bugs at one time or another.. your state of the architect address is right on in many areas,Zarcath.
Now here's to hoping the devs see this list!
here is 2 suggestions to the game
1.) you should be able to lockable rooms making them only availble to you and other players that you have on your premission list
2.) house should have more items like bar stools bar tables a bartenders table that goes with the theme of the bussiness that alsoare usable for makingfood and drinksand should be able to hire player employs and also roommates.
3.) Most of the house items are completly usless even if they should be usable.
4.) tables should let players put food on them to eat.
5.) houses should have a defence system ifcreatures startgetting close to the houseif you are willing to buy it.
6.)protocol, R 2-5 units should beable to be butlers, waiters, and servents
7.) admins SHOULD be able to pickup and drop items.
8.) you should also be able to costumize some parts of your house in the near future.
9.) When using drinking items you should beable to keep the cup to beable to use it again.
All my bookcases and chests and such are forced to sit ONE FOOT AWAY FROM THE WALL!! Which makes it look stupid.
Don't even get me started about the color and style of furniture available to us. It's a bizaar cross between the brady bunch and the jetsons. I'd at least like to pick the color of some items.

try targeting the item, facing the way you want it to move, and typing:
/move forward 1
or
/move back 1
moves it in much smaller increments and you can get stuff flush with walls.
also /rotate left 180 (or right) works hella better than selecting rotate:left twice to flip stuff around.
the move commands will also unstuck resource containers that arent able to be moved/picked up because they're touching other resource containers. Thanks CS Ticket response for that one.
Excellent post. Off the top of my head I can only think of one other bug to add to the list: you can't sit on large beds (you can sit on small ones).
How about furniture you can actually put things in. One would think you could put things in a toolchest or a cabinet. So far all the furniture makers I have talked to say nothing has storable slots. So I have backpacks hanging on the walls of my house.
You missed a Big one in my book.
All of the larger harvesters have rates for maintenance that are double the listed rate. So if you put in two days maintenance, it will actually run out in 1 day. This has been verified by me countless times for the Heavy Harvester and the Solar Harvester.
1) This should be fixed immediately as it might cause players harm; they will think they have 2 days, when in fact they only have one, come back almost two days later and owe 10k in repairs.
2) The doubled rates are just too high to be justified. On a heavy harvester the actual rate (doubled) works out to about 4200 credits per day. The equivalent amount of personal harvesters (3 and a half) would actually cost a lot less than 4200 credits per day; so by going for a larger machine players are screwed in three ways. The heavy harvester is much harder to place (similar in difficulty to a large house) and cost much more than personal harvesters for the same resource gain. Even more unfair these behemoths cost about 50k resources to build. Why not just eliminate them from the game? Only an idiot would use them under such conditions.
