First off I am not an architect nor do I claim to play one on T.V.

However I just wanted to understand the pervasive mentality on price fixing.

I dont understand the need for you guys to join together and establish a set price across the board. I dont believe that any other crafting guild atm follows this policy. I understand that you feel that you should get between 4-5 or more credtis per resource, mainly I think because other crafting proffessions are able to get this and the fact that evidently you can sell resources on the Bazzar for this much.

It would seem to me that at the moment it might be in your best interest to price according to what the market can bear. As a whole it appears to me when looked at objectivly that the market can not bear the prices your asking simply because most players have not accumulated enough wealth.

Demand is another issued. At the moment demand for housing is rising and will continue to rise imho. As demand increases prices should naturally increase. If you have set an artifical price point then housing is going to be constantly out of the reach of the average player.

A catch 22 it is kinda unfortunate that "grinders" are de-valueing your housing. This is a problem that needs to be addressed but I dont think that setting a firm base price is the way to do it. Surely there has to be a better solution to this than price fixing.

Also I am curious as to why you can sell your resources for 4-5 per resource or more. I suspect that you're actually fueling the very "Grinders" that are de-valuing your houses. Most crafting proffesions care more about the stats of the resource than the actual resources. Only Archetects need large amounts of base resources.

I was also wonder WHO and WHY set the prices at 4-5 credit per resources? If it is strictly based off of Weaponsmiths and armorsmiths who get that much I dont think that is fair. They need high grade resources and archetects just NEED resources.

Anyrate I am not trying to inflame anyone I just wanted to hear some of the reasoning behind the price fixing.

I am in the market now for dwelling and was really curious about this.

Thanks,

I wish we just needed ANY resource.

Try crafting a home with Overall Quality 14 Ore, I did today, it sucked.

The ore I mine has a unit toughness, overall quality, and durability all in the 900's. I RARELY fail.

Thanks for putting this in perspective, Barney.

I've often posted that Architects CAN'T expect to get 4-5 credits per resource like the other crafters. There are more people playing blaster-monkey who want the high-end weapons and armor, so there's more demand there. Fewer people want or need houses, so the demand is less. Plus the fact that a house is a house is a house (despite those who insists there's a difference when crafting them).

And looking at the bazaar prices on resources and using that to determine the price of a finished product is also comparing apples and oranges. You're absolutely right when you saythose bazaar prices are typically for resources with good stats or specific types, which matter not a whit to Architects. (Also, just because people are PRICING the resources at 5 credits or above doesn't mean they're actually SELLING them for that price. I wonder how many of those bazaar auctions go unsold...?)

You bring up a good point. If you will however let me counter-point.

You can still make a house with a 14 grade ore correct? It just fails more.

A weaponsmith too can still make a weapon with 14 grade ore his just fails more too.

However, and this is big, it is my understanding that all houses are created equal DESPITE quality of resources this is NOT the case for a weaponsmith.

IF this assertion is incorrect please correct me.

Oh no, you're DEFINITELY correct my friend. ButOUCH does a failure on a large project hurt bad. I try to use the best I can, regardless. If I have no options, then of course I have none. But if there's 4 kinds of Ore, I'm gonna use the best of them.

Thanks for not flaming.

I understand I would only mine the best too as it doesnt take too much more time to find better quality ores and such.

I would like to know what you think about being able to sell your resources for 4-5 a piece. Honestly, I strongly suspect that novice architects who dont want to use and upkeep harvesters are the main buyers of these bulk resorces.

It also seems like a large handi-cap to novice archeticts to be made to feel like the must conform to this pricing system. Espically since I think it MUST be VERY difficult starting out as a novic archetect no one wants to buy from a newbie and no one wants to pay as much to them as to a master archetect.

Also as a novice archetect do they fail more often?

P.S. Sorry about the spelling.

You just have to love these posts . Noone is fixing the prices my friend . The grinders blow through and lower prices just to sell and get money to run there Harvs ... They get resources and extra land spots from PA members . So thats what lowers there prices ..

I get Carbonite ore from odd places , its costs money to run back and forth not much but it adds up . I dunno much about weaponsmiths resource rate per item . But when I make a 23k resourced structure and it fails it hurts like a SOB . Which in turn makes me raise my prices for the materials I'm losing .

The higher end items should be over 5 credits as far as im concerned

I personally think that architects getting together and setting a standard price across the board for houses greatly benefits them. This ensures that every architect (including the casual little guy that makes one or two houses a day to sell) makes money without flooding the market. Money in SWG is very easy to come by. Anyone with a newbie blaster can run out and make enough to buy a small house in just a few hours of work doing missions.

I dont understand how you can say this. I was under the impression that Archetects orat least a great many of them were banding together and setting prices. Perhaps its more informal than what I initialy thought but I believe that this behavior still occurs.

Are you changing planets to get these diffrenent types of ore or are you just changing shuttle ports?

Also what justifications do you have for the 5 credits/resource?

Thanks,

Yes, my intention wasn't to disagree with you, merely to point out to any NEW Architects reading that while resource stats don't add anything to the structure itself, they DO help you not fail.

As far as selling resources for 4-5 per, I think it sucks, because the market on my server doesn't allow me to sell most of my structures for that much, so if I'm short something and just pick it up on the bazaar, I'm going to LOSE on that deal. Ouchies.

Lastly, to answer your question... yes, in theory a Novice Architect should fail more often than a Master. The Furniture line (which shockingly a lot of Architects I know did LAST), includes bonuses to your structural crafting skill. At the moment, there seems to be some debate as to whether it really works, but it should.

Hope that helps!

You make a good point Orchist.

Anyone with a blaster can make money in this game pretty easy. But what about artisans and entertainers and medics. What about the average player in these professions?

Do you yourself have oodles of money to buy housing from running missions all day?

I rather think not simply because you have already become an archetict there are more important and impressing things for you to be doing other than killing things for a destroy mission. Not to mention the added cost of skills weaps and etc.

I would have thought that an archetect who had to go through the same growing pains would be more sympathetic to guilds who choose not to use a blaster.

It seems to me to be the exact opposite. You are hurting players who lack the means necessary to raise funds to buy even low lvl housing.

Do I have oodles of money? I don't know what you consider "oodles" but I have enough to buy what I want due to proper managment of my money and by sticking to the standard price that many architects on my server have agreed upon.

As it stands right now, mission difficulty (destroy missions) on the list of available missions is based on your current combat skills. I myself have level 3 (expert) in pistol which anyone can do in one day easily, and I can make 50k an hour easily. Entertainers and medics can also do destroy missions without ever going beyond where I currently am. Not to mention the money that can also be made with delivery missions if they choose not to engage in combat for money. The point is, anyone can make 50k a day in this game....but only if they WANT to. Yes grinding for money on missions, regardless of the type is boring. But it can be done and done easily. Anyone who says different, is simply lazy in my opinion.

oops....typo on the "50k an hour" statement ...in my rush I hit the 5 instead of the 2. I meant to say 20k an hour easily. My apologies.
