Thread: The Future of Houses?

The current selection of houses isn't quite as diverse as many of us would hope for. It is likely that we'll see more designs in the future, but I am sure it still won't meet to many of our standards.

I would like to throw out this idea. Houses have no interior walls, none at all. When you choose from different designs of houses, you're just selecting the outside appearance (square, round, oval). The inside of your house will be completely empty, no rooms at all.

A new set of schematics is given to us, Wall Partitions (straight, curved), the partitions would have full clipping. This would allowplayersto drop the walls anddesign the interior of their house as they see fit.

or

Devs could change the graphic for Structure Modules and Wall Modules to make them larger, and give them full clipping. I had originally got the idea for wall partitions when I dropped a Wall Module on the ground, if it was a little bit taller it could actually at like a wall.

However there is the problem of doors. It wouldn't be difficult to give us schematics of doorframes. Seeing as doors serve no purpose at the moment (no locks or permissions). But ifthis is changed in the future, I am unsure how the mechanics would work for placing objects with obstruction permissions. Maybe doorframes would use a similarformat as deeds, where you place it and then select from the radial? Hmm...

Any thoughts, suggestions or flames?

I really think we should be able to build houses not unpack them from a kit. currently all we do is take a basic set of legos and put them together like it shows on the box. I would really love to be able to design houses fromt he ground up. choosing room size/shape number of rooms/levels etc.... fenced in yards. and i really think businesses should get their own building type. not just the same houses witha vendor in them.

Nice idea, but it's a tall order.

Not only would the code for buildings need to be revamped, but having to track individual buiding components on every personal building in the galaxy could be quite a challenge for the server.

What they need to do is combine The Sims Online with SWG. Now that would be great...

... No but really... I think building your own unique houses is a good idea. I was almost interested in building houses until i read this :-|

As far as i understand nothing exists unless there is somebody there to see it. From the exterior you could not see the interior configuration. to allow time to draw the interior when you enter require a entry hall that as you pass through allows time for the interior to be rendered.

The is nothing that can be done to save housing. Who are you trying to kid? Yourselves?

The Devs do not even WANT us selling houses. It just uses up the server resources. Do not expect them to care about our difficulties in selling broken houses.

WHAT???

Why are we talking about future of houses with all the glaring bugs being posted in this forum constantly?

How exactly DID Zarcath get this job? The Devs must LOVE this guy.

Because the bugs are known issues and are being dealt with as the devs see fit ... crying about them over and over is depressing so some of us would rather talk about the possibilities ... if you don;t like that then you don't have to participate in this particular thread.

Oh pardon me please Cyberthugg,

I must have accidentally missed the thread where the Devs have given some indication that they have any idea what is wrong with the architect skills ingeneral and harvester problems in particular. Perhaps you could point me to one of those threads. I, for one, cannot seem to find them, and the Devs certainly haven't fixed anything (of a bug nature) on my list. Perhaps they just overlooked each and every one of them in their zeal to crush the exploiters and nerf the combat skills.

The long-term future of what neat things we can do with houses should be very low priority atm I think. Furniture placement as well.

Why aren't we talking about the bugs that we find crippling to our profession?

if you work at it you can get very good at puting down furniture. i enjoy the lock-to-wall that my crafting stations do now.

as for customization... well i think that it should have a 'sims' level interface for building a house, with a vareying amount of walls/ore/lots taken based on what you build.

and i think that i should be able to be an ewok to....

... i'm sure i'll get the ewok thing first.

Perhaps a template style would be interesting.

During the creation process, you wouldhave a blank floorplan, and choose from alist of rooms/modules (like tetris blocks) that you can drag and place into the house. It would be the creators responsibility to make the best use of the area provided from the floorplan.

I'm not sure something like that ispossible with the game engine though?

Zarcath, please - for the love of all that is good and holy - don't make suggestions to the devs about what might be nice in the future at this point in the game. Highlight our top 5 issues and hammer those home. It's baby steps here - there are glaring issues that need to be addressed - make them the prority. Address future wishes as just that. Your proposal involves a massive re-design of the crafting system. Make our issues one that can be fixed within the current system.
