Thread: Why have novices make walls for you?
Your hurting yourself in the long run.
Lets assume they follow your example and do the same thing, and their novies help more novices, and soon andso forth. thismakes it VERY easy to get to master arch, just find one of the many genours MA to fund you.
I saw a guy say he did it in like 5 days. And you complain about a flooded market, the people helping the novices are going to end up hurting themselves, not helping, becasuse the more Arch's the more competion, the lower theprices.
I find your subject statement and supporting sentences flawed. People who want to climb the Arch ladder use walls to do it. They have the walls, why shouldn't we use them?Master Archsdon't need to make the walls. It's boring and we don't need the xp.
I buy walls as an education factor. I pay more for walls than many novices attempt to sell small houses for. My apprentices get the benefit of not feeling forced to undercut in order to make a sale to keep their harvesters running while at the same time they see that I as a sucessful Master Architect not only have use for the walls that they create but that I use all the walls they make (and then some) and make a good profit ratio even after Ipaying them.
I really don't mind competition, it's part of the game. I'd much rather be in competition with other architects that sell for similar prices than compete with masters that set their prices too low as novices in order to make the quick harvester maintence sale and by doing so blocked themselves into a pricing schedule that is hard to raise.
Doesnt even matter. I dont see anyway to save the architect class like some of you want it. As long as their is no decay and return buisness like selling, stuff that gets used up. You will only earn money as the server changes according to your goods. With no experimentation it makes it even worse. You cant compete. Fix experimentation and let the good archs run the lesser archs out of buisness. They will get things to settle down. Everyone wasnt cut out to be an arch. But if you think you might be, and it was your first choice, dont let me be the one to decide that for you.
The free market and what peoples resources are ultimately will bear them out. There is alot of other professions
.
While I have no need of Novices to work for me, the reasoning behind it is sound.
"Starving for Credits" types, will DRASTICALLY lower prices on items for everyone. This is a BAD THING, and if you force another Arch to sell items even at a loss, just so they can cover thier maintenance costs, they will do so.
Once people get the notion that they can buy a small house for 6K for instance, everyone that wanted to sell those, for an even semi decent profit, will now find that they can't. The few small houses that I've sold, I charged 8K on, and to be honest weren't really worth my time and effort to do at that price.
We've all already seen, Medium Harvestors, and Small Houses "average price" plummet far below what most of us would like to see it at. Bottom line is, if you don't actively help out other Arch's, and even perhaps give them some reasonable price guides, when you see prices drop, you really have yourself as one of the people to blame.

Um...
Because anyone wanting to be an Architect can do it with or without our buying their walls.
If we buy them, then the novice does better financialy and also doesnt get into the habit of charging waaay too little for their product.
Also... I can't make enough walls on my own to keep up with the demand... so a guildie novice architect makes walls for me. I even give him ore and steel so he can make more than his own resources would allow. I needed around 100 walls last night alone... thats 1000 structure mods to make and then the walls to assemble.
If we could drop 1000 structure mods in a factory and let it crank walls we would... but factories wont take the mods from the crates... and Im not standing over the factory for 10 hours loading them by hand ![]()
Those seem like plenty of reasons right there.
Thanks,
So, why not just let them grind with your resources instead. I completely agree that buying walls off novices is, well, I hate so say it, but one of the biggest wastes of money in this game. I mean money doesn't mean much to me other than what I need to keep my harvs up and the such. But, for what I sell for, getting novices to make the walls is actually just a very bad business decision.
Why not just let them grind walls using your materials instead? If you want to pay them like 1K credits per wall to assemble that's great. Before I was guilded, I actually just grinded TONS AND TONS of walls for the former master arch in my PA. He never payed me a bit, but I got probably 80K to 100K exp each night. And that was WELL worth it to me. I kept myself (and my extractors) alive and kickin by running missions myself. And, I'd grind walls for that master arch.
That way, everyone wins, and you don't make what I consider to be a very bad business descision.
If they crit on a structural module here and there, then that's nothing off your money. Sturctural modules are cheap and don't require really any resources when compared to other arch things. So, say they crit on a wall here and there, so be it. In the long run, you are still saving yourself a TON of money...even if u do pay them 1K per wall just to put things together. Chances are that none of the novice archs have anything better that medium extractors on their lots anyway. So, they burn through 15 walls for ya at 1K per wall flat fee, that's enough to easily handle maint costs on all their extractors and leave them some money to buy some stuff they want.
I just don't think that buying walls is a smart idea. Letting novices grind on your materials, now that's a great idea. Just don't give them much at first. Make sure you can trust them. Let them make 3 walls the first day, 5 walls the next, etc until u know that they won't cheat u out of resources.

Even though it is more competition and even more of a flood of the profession, I will never tell anyone not to do a profession. I will always try and help them when I can. It's just the right thing to do. How would you feel if someone tried to interfere with your becoming an Architect?
It's a win-win situation. I need walls when I have large orders and can't get enough ore and they need the experience.
