Ok, I have my first harvester ready to mine away, but I couldn't find in either the Sony manual or the Prima Guide anything about powering the thing and from looking at the control panel, it appears that I'm going to need a power supply.

How do I get power? Do I build a wind generator? Do I need something else?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I think all you need to do is buy a little power on the bazaar and toss it in to get the thing going. Then you should be OK for a while. People say the power requirements are minimal right now.

I built a Wind Power Generator closeby and collected the power off that. Put that in my Mineral Extractor and it worked. Not sure if there are other ways of getting power.

Best thing is to build a wind power generator close by. One generator can keep a couple harvesters going assuming you have enough wind.

I made a harvester Deed and a Wind Power generator Deed and set out to set up shop over the weekend. . .I came real close to unloading the game from my computer and using the CD's as coasters. Instead I took a couple of deep breaths and played Planet Side for the rest of the weekend. . .I will try again tonight.

The problem is that I ran around in the **edit**in desert for 2 hours tring to find a Resource rich (70% or better) location for ANY kind of ore that was also a Wind Resource rich area. I used both the wind sampling and mineral sampling devices. Get what. . .after two hours. . . it anit out there. So now that I was really good a frustrated having spent 2 hr running all over the place testing for every know tyoe on metal and wind over and over and accomplishing nothing I decided to just focus on the resources and settle for a 30%-40% wind resource to power my miner. Guess what. . .the mineral rich fields are so full of other peoples rigs, and the parameters for a Buildable location so poorly created that I after another hour when I finally found some room. .a LONG LONG way from Mos Espa I plunked down my Wind Gen. Unit and Personal Mining unit.

Then guess what happened. . .come on. . thats Right!!! The wind resources were so low they failed to generate any power after I turn on the machine. . and so?? Thats right my little mining machine didnt evern turn over whaen I turned it on!! This is so great!! I mean I am just out of my **edit** with excitement with this game at this point.

Oh and dont forget that I am a Artisian so I cant kill ANYTHING. So I am also on the verge of death every few minutes everytime a Rock flea get pissed off at me for running by.

WOW!! What a hoot!! $70 plus 15$ a month. . . I am really pumped!! I have to find a Brawler trainer and become a killer or something. . anything has to be more fun that this. . .

Calm down... have some dip.

Pick up another profession apart from artisan to keep you happy. If you don't like combat, become a medic and/or entertainer and do some of that. Or you could try a different city, planet, etc...

The main thing is, if you find yourself becoming frustrated over the game... stop playing for an hour, go do something else, then come back.

Now get out there and enjoy yourself!

Alternative power sources? Here ya go. The source must have Potential Energy. I tried 2. Petrol Feuls don't work. But Radioactives do!!!!!!!!

But the catch is that Personal Mineral Extractors do not gather as fast as Wind Generators or Solar Generators. But if you need power close by and there are lot's of Radioactives in the area, then they are a workable substitute. You will probably be able to use 30%-50% of the Rads to power the harvester collecting them and then power 1-2 other harvesters.

Alternatively, plop yourself down and sample the Rads yourself. I gathered 3000+ in like 4-5 hours while working around the house on Sunday. And I told this guy panicing trying to buy wind power from me. Saved his ars suggesting to mine Rads.

Yes, I am sorry for the rant. . .I was just ranting.

This is my frustration. I hate when thing dont appear properly planned. . What I mean is I dont have any problem with things being hard or challenging. I dont even mind imbalance on occation to create challenge. An Example would be in Diablo II everyone screaming about how easy the fire Sorc was and how week the Necro was and Blah blah blah. . I liked the imbalance. If i wanted a challenge I could play the HARD one. . if I wanted and easier round I could play my Fire Sorc and just spam out firew walls everywhere and clean house I had a choice. In planet side same thing. . .wnat a challenge play the Vanu or and Infil. . want to just mop the floor and paly with less thought or strat? Be a NC Jackhammer spammer. . the choice is yours . it works and these imbalances I think are great.

I guess I just need help with this Artisian play style. I am not worried about it being hard. It just seemed to me that not having the Power resources in any way match where the mineral resources were generated was poor planing. Maybe I have not roamed around long enough. Perhaps I really need some help and tips from this board to be more fruitful. I just could not help but feeling that I had (for the last 2 weeks) being paying my dues. . I have been progressing along the learning curve, I was ingrossed by the enviroment and enjoyed the game it self. . I still do . I just felt that once I got here to this level . . .well it would payoff a little. . Maybe I am just a winer after all. I dont mean to be. But to spend 2 hours running around and to slowly have it dawn on me that Energy Resources were prob as random as Mineral Resources, and that finding the two together was a double trouble chance, well it seemed to become a duanting task, and I felt it was a Developement mis-step not a lack of effort on my part.

I will have to redouble my efforts. Can anyone please share there experience with locating and operating mining and power generation equipment. . I dont need all the answers or even short cuts thats not what I am looking for. Just alittle guidance from a Pro. . .

I had made a wind generator and a couple of mineral/chem mills. During my wandering around I found an area that had a ton of wind generators set up. So I plopped mine down in this area and slapped 2K credits on it for maintainance. I came back the next day and got 2K power off of it, went to another area and surveyed for a mineral (aluminum), got a decent reading and set up my harvester there, plopped the energy and 2K maintainance fees on it and let it rip.

having the wind mill by your harvesters is not always the best gig as you may not get the best overall results. Where the wind is strong the other resources may be weak.

Hey that is great. . .so I just take power out of Wind Gen and run it over to my Miner? Cool. . I will give that a shot. I wonder if I can program a droid to do that someday. . .hmm we will see

Thanx!!

Well ores are tough to find n any concentration over 55-60% right now on my server of Wanderhome. I have 80%+ veins of nearly every other resource found out but I played 12 hours a day for 3 days straight over the weekend to track down all those resource. It's a truley daunting task to find some resources. You often just have to pick a direction a run for 5 minutes and start scanning. With survey IV you get a fairly large 300+ meter scan range which lets you see some patterns and guess as to whether you should chase down that 35% reading or not. I tend to look at how fast the numbers change from low to high on a single scan. Its not fullproof but its a little less random for me.

As for power you need to think of it like any other resource. It exists in vasrying quantities and finding a rich amount on top of or near your resource harvestors is low probabilty. It happens but it is like playing the lotto. I have found some strikes of high % minerals with 100 meters of like 90% chemical reserves and that too is unusual.

So you have every right to be frustrated as tracking down this stuff can be very, very frustrating. I plan on going into a the creature handler/perhaps ranger/perhaps pistleer route to make my character a real outdoorsman who can do alot of different things while I'm out looking for resources. If I get frustrated I can hunt creatures or try to tame the.

Also a lot of folks are very unhappy about the ever changing resurces being a real hassle for them having to move all their harvesters. I can understand this but it has to be like this to give purpose to having people who are scouts/surveyors who can move quickly across the wilderness and find these new "hot spots". It is a pain for some people but love the idea of every few weeks getting to go exploring for new reserves. It gives my character some purpose and forces others to rely on me if they are to frustrated to do it themselves.

The game is built around people needing each other to make theings easier but being able to go it alone if you have the time and energy.

As for powering your harvestors using radioactive material is nice because I've found this stuff in more abundance than the other power types. This of course will change and I'll have to re-evaluate my power situation, especially when the harvester power bug is straighted out.
I think reactive gases are a power source as well, never tried it though. Wind and Solar are both obvious sources as well but they are going to require a more expensive to maintain harvester.

Hope this helps to relieve your tensions about how things work. It is not impossible but is always going to be a challenging situation that is in constant flux. That is one of the things I like about the surveying field personally because resources are something a ton of folks need but few want to track down over and over again.

My problem is the maintenance. I cant seem to keep up. Its like the expect you to be able to play everyday. Sometimes I have to go a day or two without playing. after a day and a half my 3 harvestors needed 2k each for repairs. Im not good enough to get decent sells from my crafting and I hate delivery missions as they are time consuming...

any suggestions?
