Thread: Construction Skill

We all know that Structure Experimentation is way up there on the stuff we want done. We also all know that the Custruction skill tree is totally devoid of extras.

What I need to know is what should go in there?
And what do we want to go in there =)

I have two suggestions (feel free to add your own):

Player City buildings:
----------------------
Alot of people have expressed concern that the City Planner Elite-Elite would have a limited market because every PA would have a master architect that would build their city and that would be the end. I expect that this is what will happen as well. This way the architect gets to do this job and there is no risk of picking up a dead-end class.

Military structures:
--------------------
Many architects including myself would like to include themselves in the Galactic Civil War, and this is the way to go. Obviously there will be some re-tooling on the faction level, but this is what I would like to see.

What do you all think?

Agreed on both counts.

Making experimentation work is probably not the answer given our huge resource outlays for items. Failing experimentation on a heavy harvester would be just as bad as crit failing the thing.

I do think the devs need to be made aware of our concerns about the UP profession. It's something I would love to do, but I see it as having even less of a future than architect. Unless of course the devshave someSuper Sekcret plan in the works to make UP a long term playable profession (which I doubt at this point).

They have already posted (rather cryptically) that we will eventually be involved in the GCW. It would be a great addition to that useless line.

Well actually what I meant by that was I hoping I could sneak both by as our "top priority" =)

But still input is welcome

Or how about the ability to landscape the land? The construction tree lets you make lots to smoothe out the land or do away with trees, However you have to hire NPCs to do it and it takes time, and they cost money causing another sink.

ah...I'd really enjoy a swoop bike

on a more serious note...automated money dispensers ( for your harvesters) would rock

as would a power dispenser

Actually as far as "maintenance droids" go the Droid Engineer correspondant is seeing a high demand in their forum. It's anyone's guess weather they will implement it, but it seems to be a top thing on their end. I will discuss it with her personally.

Given the choice between building GCW structures or having city buildings in the construction line, I would choose GCW. Given the choice of leaving the GCW structures as they were and having player cities come out sooner by elimitating the need for the programing of an other profession, I would go with the sooner release date.

Either way, right now it is a complete waste of skill points.

Making city buildings into architect does not make sense, that's what the Urban Planner profession is for.

I think that adding the urban planner skematics to architect tree would be adding a lot more skematics to a developed profession than the developers would be willing to do. They have the city buildings done and I'm fairly sure they have the skill tree completed as well. We've seen the pictures of some of the items, I would doubt that they would be willing to scrap the whole profession. I'm also personally looking forward to UP (no I'm not in a large PA).

I do think that Architects should be able to create the buildings for the GCW as it would give us a renewable sales line which is badly needed. How this would be implemented and who would be eligible to make the items would be the question. DE's have skematics that can be purchased as faction rewards I would like us to have that option as well either as structures or at the very least additional furniture similar to the faction reward furniture. This only helps those Architects that are involved in factions though and a construction fix is needed for all architects not just the faction ones.

Almost every elite crafting profession has a constuction type line that does not add additional skematics, asking for architects to get skematics in that line is asking for all elite professions to get skematics in their similar lines as well. What is needed for the construction line is for it to actually do what it is supposed to do. Because architects have 3 lines of skill mods our caps on each skill mod is lower than those that have only 2 lines (DE's also have 3). These lines need to be brought into line with other elite artisian professions. Experimentation needs to be implemented and worthwhile, once experimentation is worthwhile and the skill mods are on par then the construction will be fine as is. The only thing that might be good to add to this line is customization and colorization that has been requested (this is what DE's and tailors have in their skill lines.)

- gcw stuff
- lot increase/reduction of cost for housing structures
- platforms for uneven land, small/medium/large harvester platforms: helps with placing stuctures on uneven or even floating ones.

I would be very careful with the lot/housing cost option though as you would have a lot of people go the novice architect and the construction line *JUST* for hte lots, and then undercut other stuff maybe even flooding the market worse.

I think GCW buildings should go in that slot, leave player buildings for Urban Planner and allow us to build Turrets, Barrecks, Bases and Central faction buildings. For example a Barrecks wouldputout20 or so faction soldiers and when working in combination with your cities covert scanners, they would run over and attack the offending party. Just a thought

Military structures are an absolute must on my list, so if there's no better way to get 'em into the profession I'd certainly vote for that.
