Quick question for all you architects. I am a Bartender. I currently run the Tyrena Cantina on Wanderhome (well, rp wise anyways) I was just wondering if cantinas will be in the player city buildings and about how much they will cost. Sorry for the bother if you guys don't know yet.

Thanks alot guys.

:oints at self:: Neutral, anyone can use my bar as long as they are civil and will put their weapons away. Thanks for the answer. I'll try again in a couple weeks, see if there is anything new. Until then, keep up the good work guys, and anyone on Wanderhome, feel free to stop by Kiet's Place Cantina, next to the spaceport in the heart of Tyrena.

Just mention this post for a jawa beer on the house if I'm there.

I just opened a resturaunt of my own, well it is more of a cafeteria for my guild at this point. I have found that large generic houses make the best resturaunts. The big open area in the main room is awesome, and there is an overhang next to the stairs that makes a premo spot for a bar.

I just made Master Dancer yesterday evening and have been invited into a player city in order to establish a cantina. Does anyone know what the specifics are on cantinas? Mine is being provided at no cost to me, but how will I make a living with it, afford the maintanence, etc...any ideas? Thanks a bundle

They take up 5 lots right now, as far as making a living.. either live off donations or my best suggestions is to put a Merchant on the admin list so you can charge a cover charge to get in, something small that people won't care about but it will add up and help on the maintanence.

Yes the maintance is about 9k a week if I figured it right at 50/credits per hour. Really not that bad, what I want to know is how many items one holds. As I am going to use mine as my declared residence and take down my house. If it is 5 lots instead of the 6 they proposed that is great news. If you are a master you should be able to pay maint just by doing mind buffs. I don't ever ask for a set rate, but usually get pretty good tips for them and once one person asks for one usually others do too! Good luck with the cantina, as it sounds many masters are going to try it and see how it works!

Well I'd imagine they hold 250.. But I'm not about to go dragging everything out of my large house to test this hypothesis..

The reason I say so is that structures hold 75 items per lot, up to 250.. So after 4 lots you've hit the max. Since the cantina is 5 lots, it's at the max.

See, cantinas are exactly like houses for the most part.. They are just houses that are listed on the planetary map and can be found with /find, and that only a master dancer or musician can place. When you place it, the sign reads "Name's House". The structre starts out private. And you can declare residence there. Entry/ban/admin lists work as anticipated. And you can't place any items on the shelves because theres no stairs high enough in the same room and even then you can't move them beyond the edge of the shelves.

This has been bugging me for a while, so I thought I'd throw it out as a discussion topic.

A friend and I have wanted to build and run a cantina for a while now, but get stopped at every turn because every city already seems to have a cantina. Usually those cantinas are funded by the city in question.

Why do cities only allow a single cantina? Isn't that a bit like L.A. saying it can only have one nightclub? Why are cities funding these cantinas? Do people find it that hard to turn a profit running a cantina, or at least keep it going?

The whole thing baffles me.

Our cantina not only pays for itself, but pays the city maintenance as well. Our resident master dancer runs and owns the cantina. We've had requests from entertainers requesting to build a second one, but we've felt like the one cantina serve to give our city an identity, and is the local gathering place.

When we've gotten such requests, we've referred them tothe smaller (but still well-managed and well-placed) towns that are struggling for citizens. I have to believe that any one of them would love to have such an offer from an outsider, to help them drawattention, citizenship, and income to the city.

You'd be surprised. It seems the minute a city has the ability to drop a cantina, they feel they HAVE to have one, even if it means (and it often does) that someone AFK entertains up to master just to be able to drop it...and then untrains their skills.

Couple that with the refusal to allow multiple cantinas (has anyone seen a single city with more than one cantina?) and the only places that we're able to find to erect, decorate and run our own cantina is the outer worlds, where running any sort of events will mean large prohibitive travel costs to the participants.

It's a bit frustrating when you think you could do a good job but can't get the chance.

Well, The Luna is on Lok- and it tends to have... oh... me ^-^ I would love to have other entertainers ( and so would the rest of the city since they tend to go get worked on a daily basis... and our illustrious leader comes running in every time he gets a scratch, hehehe) Though, honestly, we are nto big enough for 2.

I would say that any city with a population of less than 100 is not big enough to give both cantinas a influx of customers. (which most cities are due to the need for everyone to have their 'own' city. ) Larger cities with bigger populations should be able to have a cantina on each 'end' of town. But until smaller struggling cities join with larger ones (for survival and to give the merchants friendly competitian- or heck, friendly cooperation. Since one tailor a city is like LA with only one clothing store) then most cities will be under 100 citizens.

((Maybe you should come to Scylla, Pickles. I have been approached several times about joining a city to own/take ownership of a cantina. (I am an unguilded wanderer - I am really picky and not ready to settle down yet. ^_^)

I actually can't quite figure out why most cities want cantinas, and especially why they need to bring in someone to do it. You can heal mind wounds and battle fatigue in a house, and most cantinas are empty or have one AFK dancer for the PA use, when they could just pick a house and name it The_Cantina.))
