I recently avoided DE, and I want to know if this is a good profession, or if I should do something else.

Read the designer responses and our responses to that. Should give you a rough idea of what you would be letting yourself in for.

Honestly....NO. Im half way to master and its just a money sink big time. You spend most of your time running around to harvs to gather resources to make items you cant even sell to cover your costs. Since the patch its only got much worse.

In the state its in, no. Little money with much input of time and energy. Much better off being a weaponsmith if you're in it for the money.

NO IT SUCKS. DO NOT AVOID DE, I'm an architect, and i'm going BACK to DE. Architect, isn't profitable, isn't fun, and isn't worth it. Go to DE, go to weaponsmith, go to armorsmith, go to another profesion, just don't get in this boat! PLZ save urself

Have to agree, anyone should start a combat character first in this game now as it stands. Architect is not fun. We don't make money, people ridicule us, and we don't get to interact with many customers as a result of both. Please don't become an architect and find out the hard way. I'm still here because of the work it took to get here and there's nothing worse than looking at the Master Architect box and wanting to sell it back.

NIce, "recently avoided DE." Shouldn't this set a flag off to any of the Devs?

Personally I wouldn't do it again. It's not a very 'fun' profession. You don't usually sell a lot of things, and when you do you have to keep your prices inline with all the crazy people that sell at ridiculously low prices. The only way I'm selling another structure is if I get 10 creds/unit for it. I seriously doubt I'll sell a structure for that and that is fine by me. 10 creds/unit for a weaponsmith would put any of their guns at around 1500 creds. When was the last time you bought the best gun on the server for that price?

good man. I fully agree. When I hit master, the only people I will build for will be guildmates. Anyone else that wants to have something built will have to find the resources, deliver em, and pay me, oh probably 2 creds per resource for the first two levels, probably 4 for the 2nd two, and for master, probably 8 cr per resource(and yes they have to include every single resource, the charge is purely an assembly charge.) I don't really expect much business, but I'm doing this cuz I started it, and I want to make master. I wouldn't for a second do this again, not even if they did add ships tmrw and made architect be able to build em. Id probably go towards med professions if I wanted to craft, or probably combat/bio eng.

I may head toward weaponsmithing after I'm done with architect. I orginally was going to do DE, but probably won't now.

It's useless to go in Architec now, business is slowing down already and I really feel sorry for novices who sell small houses for 3k on the bazaar or even have to give them away for XP. The only way for survive as an arhitect is to have a PA supporting you with resources or if you want to become an urban planner for your PA. I personally finish the order for 10 heavy minerals and go back to work on my tailoring skills. Why? Tailoring is not a very lucrative profession either, but even after 2 months in the game and with a bunch of masters around I'm still able to sell dusters at 10 cpu, and with clothing decay coming soon it would be even a better business. And it's a real fun, you actually get to interact with people instead of babysitting the factory.

I have to agree with everyone else:

No it is not a good profession.

If you enjoy crafting, then try Weaponsmith or Armorsmith. Those professions are vaible and have a future. As much as I like to see new people in the profession, I can't recommend it in it's current form.
