Thread: So much for the crtical failure theories

I just made 7 factories and had not a single failure. Just for the fun, I didnt even use a crafting station.. I was SAMPLING through every SINGLE product... and I used nothing good for resources.. not a single friggin failure.. thats 7*3=21 walls, 14 generator turbines, 7 manufacturing mechanisms. I dont think all this theories about "dont sample while crafting" etc. mean much.. Seems all random to me unless you know of a developer post stating otherwise.

Things seem to vary a lot by server, don't know why. I agree I have made about 10 houses and 3 factories. Worst I ever get is a failure on a structural module.

Crit Failure and resource shifts don't seem to be the same server to server.

So explain to me how I can fail a wall, countless bricks, a factory, a medium harvester, and a PA hall in one day, then switch to crap resources the next and build 2 complete PA halls with zero failures... Are you trying to say that crit fails are not too high? If so, then how come I lost 80% of what I crafted to failures one day?

I guess the question is, do we base our opinion of what the failure rate is on one day, one week, our entire career, or the average of everyone that crafts, and how can we be certain of our numbers anyway?

Your success will be outweighed one day by a string of failures.. probably soon.. It is the nature of averages.

I personally was at over 20% failure rate for my career 5 days ago. I am now probably closer to 6-8% average. I will build 2 large houses tonight, and if I fail one, my rate will jump by about 3 %. Right now I feel like I cannot fail again, but the PA hall failure reminds me that I am not invincible.

Allow me to edit that.. a bit.. it sounds like I am disagreeing with you.. hehe..

The day I crafted with zero failures and worse resources I was running around, swimming, closing my window in mid craft, pulling resources out of my bag, etc.. I did everything you are not supposed to do.. Oh, and for almost half the time I was on, I was getting server lag that would result in my packet loss jumping to 10 or 15% (still had 120 ping) and all the while I was merrily crafting away..

The day I crafted and failed the PA hall and most everything else, I was sitting in front of a pirvate crafting station, using the best resources I could find..

So yes, the crit failure "dos and donts" are purely superstition.. but whatever works for you, more power to ya..

Critical failures are a percentage chance ..... are are resolved by a random number each time. whether or not resources or tools or rabbits feet or whatever will change the fact that you are dealing with a random number generator and that you could have a really bad day and get really crappy numbers over and over again even though theoretically you only have a small percentage chance to fail.

wow I butchered that second sentence ....

reguardless of whether or not you use high quality tools or resources or rabbits feet you are still dealing with a random number generator.

hehe that is all i was saying.. there is no reason as far as i can see for critical failures except for pure randomness. This experiment was meant for all those people who respond in posts about crit failures being too high by saying things like "did you use a 96% station" etc.

Update: I made 10 more walls before server crap with no failure.

Thats what I have been saying all along..

Im glad people are finally seeing the light, that it doesnt matter what quality of ore, steel, or anything it is.. its just random...

good luck

Well I didnt believe any of that anyways but was too lazy to actually try an experiment hehe.. I had to buy some low quality resources to test it

Personally, I have BETTER SUCCESS RATES with CRAPPY materials and crappy tools. I did a test with both GOOD resources and tools and with bad. I crafted about a hundred weapon mods in total. Using GOOD stuff . . . I failed 10% of the time.

I never failed using the crap.

*shrugs*

I don't think it MEANS anything. I hope it doesn't. It's just something I noticed.

Update: I finally ran into a wall. I had a string of critical failures (on furniture ). I failed about 7 times in 15 mins. 4 of them was my previously stated ways of crafting whereas 3 of em was with the way described in "How to avoid critical failures" by xyz. But after that it all went smoothly again.
