Okay for those of you who have to deal with other rude architects:

Valeran on Radiant sent me a tell asking me to train him in furniture 3. Now, I'm a master architect and don't need the apprentice points and paid for all of my skills so I'm charging 1/4th the value it cost me to train it. I told him I would be glad to train him but that I charge 2k for every architect skill now so that I can recoup the amounts I spent.

As a master architect you can receive a lot of tells from folks asking for training because they know you have all of the skills. His reply to me was, "No thanks I just paid the vendor 8k instead.". I replied to him that if he wanted to lose 6k and be insulting about it he could elsewhere for his skills. He then goes into this large berating non-stop response about things (I took screenshots so he can't lie about doing it) and that he was 2 skills from master and could care less.

Now the purpose of this post is two-fold. First, just because one architect may charge nothing (some are trying to get apprentice points for master and do this for that reason) and another is charging (masters come to mind), doesn't mean that he was right nor wrong in feeling the way he did. But, he should not be rude or berating to someone for simply and politely stating they charge x amount of money to train someone.

I believe his opinion was that all skills should be absolutely free. I know Im not the only master architect teaching others but I would like to know what others may be charging now that they have reached the pinnacle. Those skills weren't free and they cost a lot of money for those of us who got there faster than others.

Yeah, I ran into the same mentality; the person would rather pay an NPC 8k instead of tipping me a couple thousand.

I don't get the logic. I help you, you help me, it's pretty simple.

Why is it an insult to pay me a fraction of the cost for my time?

I don't train anyone anymore unless they say upfront that they'll tip, and it's not because I'm cheap, greedy or need the money, but because training does NOTHING for me and going out of my way to train someone (they never happen to be standing right next to me) is pretty inconvenient.

The dork that paid the NPC instead of me told me this was the "Age of Free, just look at Kaaza", he said.

Pay the 8k, morons, and leave me alone

I think asking for 25% is very fair. I tend these days not to ask fora specific amount in return for training, butleave the amount of the tip in the hands of those I teach. If I don'teven get a small gratuity I wont be going out of my way to train them again, if at all.

I never charge for training I offer, but often get tips anyways...

A little story (that will probably make me look silly) - Imade the mistake one time of clicking on my skills and looking at my modifiers under Construction tree, and when I got to Construction IV, I changed to another screen to surrender a skill so I could pick up my Carbineer skill and accidentally surrendered Construction... So I had to ask another Master Architect to re-train me and no tip was requested, but I still tipped him a fair amount for the two skills...

I don't charge for training and I don't really want tips. I paid for about half my architect skills and was trained for free on the rest, so I like to pass on that consideration to others. I think it's reasonable to charge for training if you feel it's the right thing to do but if I had the choice between training with an NPC for 8k or a player who wouldn't do it unless I gave him 2k...I think I might go with the NPC too. I agree it's not at all logical, I guess I just don't like the idea of it and I wouldn't want to encourage it. But again, I do believe that if you think it's the right thing to do, by all means, do it...it's just a personal choice.

Regardless ofpersonal feelings, though, people should still be polite.

There is no excuse for someone to ever be rude to youin my opinion (and vice versa of course). If a player did that to me they would hit my ignore list very quickly indeed. With respect to tipping I have a much different attitude. I have trained many players and I have never asked for a tip once. In fact those who try to tip me get their money given back.It costs me nothing to train someone andit takes almost no time to do it. All I ask is 1) you come to me or meet me in a place that is convenient to both of us and 2)a thank you. I would much rather you keep the money and tip the medics and entertainers than tipping me for essentially nothing. I too, withveryfew exceptions, purchased all of my skills from NPC trainers. I too have more apprentice xp now than I know what to do with.

Ibelieve he was ignorant about the way he went about it, but i as a rule dont charge people just because I know most aspering architects dont make money till they get to the last few bubbles anyway.

but as for the excuse that I paid for it, so should you. I find that rather insulting too.

you ran up the tree, you paid 8k for the bubble, and after you get 4 people to pay you back your 2k per are you going to stop making money? or are you going to milk those below you?

I believe that most people would agree, your entitled to some of your money back that you spent. but you probably already made up the lost cash anyway, so what are you worried about?

Way I see it is, if i give away FREE training for the rest of my life, i will eventually recover the money spent in training. I see your way as bottom feeding.

jeez... how do you thin-skinned people deal with rude people in real life? I'd be **edit** rude to another artisan that charged me for training! I look at it as a professional courtesy. It's not as if credits are hard to come by. This will probably p.o. some folk here but I always train for free AND I always sell the stuff I make or resourses I sample for the lowest possible price on the bazaar. I ran a sampling macro last night while I slept and this morning woke to find I had 3000 quantity of Aluminum. Im going to to sell it in lots of 1000 for 500 credits a pop on the bazaar where 1000 quantity of anything is selling for 3000 credits.

Why? Because I can. Galactic economy my butt. There is so much that is broke about this game that until they fix things I'm going to make it easier for other players.

Tonight I'm going to craft some harvestor deeds and sell them for 100 credits a pop!

I am facinated with the Apprentice/training concept. I am a Master Architect like others and ended up paying for all of my Architect skills (along with most of my Artisan skills before that). If I happen to know friends that have the skill I might get training that way and I remember with my Artisan skills casually asking those nearby in town if they had training and could teach me.

What facinates me is the people that spend a good 30 minutes or more spamming in /shout in town for training. If they'd spend the same amount of time doing missions they could easily get the money. I guess it's people looking for shortcuts though.

As a former Beta tester, I was ahead of many people in town early on and I was pretty gracious with the free training. As I have no need for Apprenticeship skills anymore and I've become a bit disgusted at the number of people that seem to EXPECT free training has grown, I'm pretty selective with who I'll train. I know a lot of people give training for free and to that I say "more power to you!", but it sounds like I'm not alone with having put down a lot of money for my skills and asking to recoup some money for training isn't that much to ask I don't think.

I'm torn between being nice, and being a businessman.

So what I usually do (and have done since I was a novice artisan ) is... I'll teach others, yes. I teach for free, however, I make a little (macroed) speech about in the future, asking and tipping 10% of the skill cost... I don't expect that from them for me, and if nothing else I hope they simply ask 10% from others that they teach. Usually, of course, I got that 10% or more from them, a few I've gotten nothing from, but that's fine.. I didn't expect it at all. Some people simply don't have the cash, others, given the choice, will always choose free over not... it's a fair way to tell who you'd prefer to deal with later, too.

Now that I am master architect , master artisan, and master merchant, I have no need for the apprentice points at all. Perhaps I should start forcing at least a 10% fee and recommend a 25% donation for elite class skills... *shrug* I probably never will, but really, doing so would be both very fair to others, and better business-sense for myself (hardly scamming anyone. ). But I'll probably just stick to my old ways... heh

I ran into this exact same scenario. I was a master architect.. about 2 days old.. I have paid for EVERY SINGLE one of my artisan and architect skills myself. During the early stages of the game, I charged for training, although shortly after hitting novice architect, I stopped charging for artisan skills.. many people tipped, and some were expecting to pay, and that is fine, but I didnt ask. HOWEVER, its one thing to pay 1k for a skill.. entirely something else to pay 9k for a skill. So here I am sitting in Coronet making some solar and mineral harvesters while waiting for a customer to arrive to pick up a PA hall. I had sold 2 PA halls to date, and had about a million credits on me at the moment, so it is not as if I needed cash. This novice arch is standing behind me, and asks if I can train like construction 2 or something.. I said sure, but I will charge 1500 as I paid full price to train. He says nevermind, I will pay the trainer. I thought to myself "what a ****head". I wanted to go off on this guy about manners, but I figured if he was stupid enough to A) pay full price when he could have paid 1/4th, and B) cop an attitude about cash to me, who happened to have a pile in my inventory, and certainly didnt need his 1.5k to add to my 1,000,000, then he was not worth the effort to so much as reply. I shrugged and went on to fail one medium mineral, one PA hall, one turbine, 2 walls, and a factory that night..

What logic is there in A) not paying someone for a skill they paid for, who you are going to be competing with, and B) thinking that you are superior because you can pay the NPC full price instead of 1/4 the price to a fellow architect who you will be competing with who gains nothing from training you, and probably has more money that you ahve ever seen?

As I said, I did not need the money, that part was irrelevant.. But I hate giving something away to someone that doesnt want to earn it.. If you are offended about paying someone for training, then go out and spend the money yourself. Perhaps when you have spent 135k to train the whole thing, you will have a little respect for the guy asking 1500 to train one skill.

On the flip side, I once needed to train in an architect skill which would cost me 9k, and I talked to a master architect about training he suggested I pay him 4500 which I though was greedy. So I offered him 3000 which I though was very very fair.... and he refused to train me for that amount.

So I went to the trainer.

Heh, i always ask non-masters for training cuz they will always do it for free. Plus why would I want to waste a masters time. I have asked one master for training though because I couldn't find anyone else with the skill and he did it with out any problems.

Hey this got me thinking, is there a Jedi Trainer? Or will he popup once a jedi finally appears?
