Thread: Failures

I was going to start my own thread about how to reduce failures and what helps in reducing them. I myself and not a master yet, but do make factories and medium houses which use a fair amount of material. The worse failure i have had is 2 wall units <knock on wood>.

My questions are these:

1) How much does the furniture skill help reduce failures? It supposedly is the only way to raise structural assembly skills aside from skill ehancers ( would I plan to buy if I can find any).

2) How much do stats matter to failures? If so is it just primary or secondary as well. Does having armor on affect failure rates?

I have asked many an architect and know one knows the answer for sure. Everyone seems to be guessing at all of it.

I can make assumptions, but some true insight may save us all some crying over large failures.

I have done a variety of things to try and reduce faulures. I haven't been able to get anything to work in a measurable way. The worst failure yet was one on our own PA's PA Hall. That sucked.

I think people are just having bad luck. I've only failed on2, maybe 3 deed combines. Since I've hit master architect, I've failed on none (And I've made more than 10 heavy mineral miners), and only had a few failures on some components. If you're failing like mad, I suggest logging off for awhile and coming back later.

Will logging off and back on cure a run of bad luck?

Luck is luck. In theory you have the same odds of failure on each combine.

That being said, if I hit a bad streak I will either log out for a bit or put off doing any major combines for a few hours. If I need to build something now I will make a new crafting tool and/or station as new tools seem to reduce crits for me. I also have several other rules I follow ranging from logging out for a few minutes if I ever have to back out of a crafting tool, as it seems failures seem to come hot and heavy after backing out to silly things like doing the actual risky command only when the object icon is pointing in a particular direction hehe. Ok Ok, so its all voodoo, but I've only failed modules and 1 medium house in the last few weeks.

Stats make a huge difference in failures. If you have wounds, get them fixed before any major combine. Also, absolutely do NOT wear any armor.

I tested this the other day when I had a ton of wounds (including battle fatigue/shock wounds). I then put on a full set of padded armor. I crit failed on a LOT of items.

Last night I got all of my wounds healed, took off my armor and unequipped my carbine. I only crit failed once in the entire night.

I'm not sure exactly which stats it looks at, but I imagine strength, mind, willpower and some others factor into the process given my test results.

I've heard the problem is that the Assembly Mods don't work for any class. I'm a tailor, and I found that I fail JUST as much with Tailor 4 (Adds Tailor Assembly Mods) as when I only have Novice tailor.

I don't want to have to "knock on wood", so there's a few things I won't say but.....

I don't understand why a player is able to build say 50+ of an item without any failures then get 3-4 failures in a row. This has happened to me frequently enough that I have given some consideration that failure may notjust be"chance" alone, but may also be randomized by time. If I'm am making something that uses a lot of resources and I happen to get a failure, now I try to wait a minute or two before making the next. If it's something that doesn't require a lot of resources I'll just continue on, and on many occassions when I'll get one failure, I'll get multiple failures in a row.

In the past 48hrs I have lost 4 fusion power gen, 1 med. house, all of the materials used were high quality.

I have some 992 copper made a new crafting station with all of the optionals, new crafting toolall with 99% effectiveness.

why can't a crit fail just make uslose the raw materials for that combine not the already crafted componets (wall mods, generators, etc)

I just can't stand telling a customer "Sorry butI just lost a weeks worth of resources take your business elsewhere"

Master Architect for several weeks, doing fine. In the last 24 hours I have attempted to make 3 deeds:

Large House

Medium House

Heavy Mineral Mining Installation

All 3 deeds critical failed on final combine.

It's not about the stuff. It's about the time. I've played almost every MMOG since Air Warrior for DOS in the early 90's and nothing has ever so negatively affected my attitude for a game. I've gone from super interested to absolutely despondant. How can I even consider attempting another major deed? The48 hour corpse recoveries from the early days of the planes in EQ pale by comparison. After a few of those, I simply didn't go to the planes for however many weeks if took for me to feel ready to take the risk. As an architect, there's not a lot for me to do except make small houses until I feel like the game's not going to kill my career and game interest off on another unlucky dice roll. Not a fun design feature, IMO.

Well that's what I get for talking about how I haven't failed on a deed in a long time... failed a large mineral harv construction today... but the next one succeeded. Anyway... it still happens.

Okay folks, time for my 2 cents.

I was crafting just fine. Critical errors were managable..... Until I trained in Construction III. After the training I had 8 YES eight critical failures in a row on Structural Modules. and 2 out of 4 Wall modules failed I lost about 4 other structural modules not in consecutive order. But I talked with a Master Architect and he said that it seems that the higher the Construction skill you have, the more critical errors...

So I tested, I surrendered my Construction III skill and then was able to craft 30 StructMods, and 3 WallMods without a SINGLE failure, I then proceeded to build my factory that I was working on and it went together fine.

I think the problem here is not luck, but a matter of programming!!!
