wrote up a long response, then forums closed when I sent, here is an abridged version.

I started gathering by hand, selling some on bazaar to fund buying other resources. Built myself a couple of personals and carried on, found I could sell hardwood for 6cpu so soncentrated on that until I could collect enough resources for a few mediums. Built and sold these, kept a few myself. Eventually I stopped harvesting altogether and now just buy all my resources as I can get what I need quicker that way. I now need 3 houses just to store all the resources I have since I buy in bulk whenever I see the opportunity for a bargain.

ROFL! I remember surveying manually for a few 100's of resources for hours just to make a power core so I could make a large house for a friend only to crit fail on the combine and lose the items I'd spent ages making.

Man am I glad they removed that

I hand surveyed as I leveled up my survey branch in Artisan.

Then I made myself s couple personal minerals (BER2).

Then eventually I had a fleet of them (8). Then I made myself some BER-4s.

Then I switched to Mediums at BER6, then 8, then 10.

Then finally, I just finished converting all my havtesres to Heavies. 20 Heavy Minerals, 2 Heavy Gas, 4 Deep Crust Chemicals, 2 Heavy Floras, 2 Heavy moisture.

in the beginning, there was nothing, and it was not good...

Yes...the days of making personals by hand...survey for a couple of hours only to crit fail. Good times, I swear.

You can have this experience by choice on any server. Or you can go only the Test Center and almost have it thrust on you.

I'm curious, if you need resources to make harvestors, where did the first resources or harvestors come from since without resources you couldn't have made the harvestor?

Did Sony offer harvestors or resources for sale initially?

When I started, I collected all minerals for my first harvesters with my bare hands. umm.. well.. I had my survey device in my other hand though.

Wouldn't be too terribly difficult to manually harves the few hundred units of resources need to make a personal. then go from there. I wasn't here in the beginning, so i wouldn't know. I'll go ahead and ssume it was a pain.

Sample by hand for a while then build a personal mineral harvester.

Wow. Although thinking about it, that's kinda cool though. I mean to make your first personal harvestor and then use that to scale up. Neat.
