Thread: FROWNY FACE (BAD NEWS RE: PLAYER BOUNTIES)

I didn't say anything because I didn't feel there was a need to. I felt that saying something would be viewed as taunting and only encourage more. I was content to report it and let the mods decide the best course of action. And it was censored, he needed to self-censor it as a few of the words were not postable on this board.

As for the bounties, I'm fine with them if they are some form of opt-in. This does not mean I want access to everything. If certain quests can only be accomplished with the risk of PvP bounties, I'm all for it, and will participate in it. However, the OP never mentioned some opt-in things. He said that all combat professions should be full PvP enabled. When others suggested some kind of opt-in for certain missions, he never agreed, but instead implied full PvP at all times. According to him, the only way not to PvP was to be an entertainer. Something along the lines of "take missions from here, nothing happens; from over there, NPC bounties; that guy, player bounties" would be a great thing in my book. If the player missions gave larger rewards than the NPC, and the NPC larger than the no-risk, so much the better.

Well it's been long stated, and a long standing position of this community, that PvP bounties would HAVE to be opt in.

That's probably where the whole thing got sidetracked.

And I'm sorry, I just don't think it's right to report someone without even attempting to resolve it yourself first. That's where you and I get sidetracked I suppose.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

It has always occured to me the simplest solution would be to have 3 (preferrably 4 factions)

Neutral - NON PvP

Alliance - PvP against Imperial

Imperial - PvP against Alliance

Crimminal - PvP against Crimminal

All this simply means is ...if you choose to join a side....you are a target...you knew this by saying yes..to the fella in the grey uniform

why not a visibility thing i mean a rebel going around in a full rebel armor talking about how they're going to crush the empire while there are 20 stormtroopers wondering around then yes they should get a bounty on there stupid heads. but if they are very quiet and don't show off to the imps then no they shouldn't get bounties. but that's just my thoughts

Okay, here it is, in an unreportable format.

1. You have NO right to suggest your needs as a carebear are more important than anyone elses.

2. When I started this thread, it was about the fact that there will be NO player bounties in the new system, at all.

3. The very concept of player bounties is well discussed, and as I was addressing Wes, and not you, it was not important that I mention that the "opt-in" system of taking a dangerous mission was at the root of what I was asking.

4. If your immediate thought about the title of the thread is, "But that's good news!" Not only are you a carebear, but it is also not of your concern. Feel free to start another thread on why you're SO happy there won't be player bounties.

5. This board is for Smugglers. We handle things ourselves. If you have a beef, you take it to the person. You don't go whining to the cops.

Personally I believe Player Bounties will add an entirely new and exciting element to SWG. It would keep the game constantly fresh and is deffenetly very Star Warsy, it was established in the movies that if you screwed up there would be a bounty on your ass. And I dont see why its such a big deal if your somone that doesent want to PvP. So somone comes and kills you? OH NO! big whoop.

Don't bet on it.

If Jedi are a normal level profession, then their power is gone, and therefore so is their attraction to powergamers.

What we have the potential of seeing now is content attracted players becoming Jedi.

I'm not guranteeing this mind you... but I do think this could go a long way to eliminating the problem that comes with Jedi.

This is scary for me, but I agree with Zane here. If jedi aren't any more powerful than other professions, then you'll probably start to see less of them. You'll still have the kiddies who saw Ep 1-3 and want to play jedi, but you'll also have a ton of other people who saw EP 4-6 and don't want a glowstick.

The only reason CGW PvP these days is ruled by jedi is because they are more powerful than most professions. Simple as that. Fix that problem, see less jedi.

So in essence, we might get rid of the powergamer - jedi but will be pestered by hordes of glowbat wielding kiddies. While it might be an improvement that we will be probably able to beat them in 1vs1 pvp,the immersion goes out of the window completely. At least until now people had to play this game a couple of month before running around in robes and illuminating the night with their fancy special effects stick, but now it will be a grab and go. No thanks.

Keep things in perspective though.

Jedi has recieved so much attention, attention that has often postponed development for this profession, because it was supposed to be an alpha class. They had to contend with people being drawn to it, then they complained that it wasn't what it should be and they turned it into something it wasn't.

The hologrind situation was created by powergamers wanting the power (not to mention piss poor design and forethought). That led to the next set of problems, and so on and so forth.

They're now normal, no better than any other profession. This eliminates the number one draw to Jedi. I would venture to say, in order, these are the reasons people have gone Jedi (based upon theJedi I know):

1. They wanted the power.

2. They wanted to be Jedi.

3. They wanted the content.

They've now eliminated the number 1 draw to Jedi. This means the door is more open to the people who should be playing Jedi.

Not only that, but we do not know, right now, if there will be penalties for being any profession. In other words, will Jedi be attacked by Imperials on sight now (God I hope so) or will known criminals (i.e. Spies and Smugglers) be attacked if they've gained the reputation of being a criminal.

There are a lot of things that have the potential to completely alleviate the problems associated with the Jedi profession. At the very least, they've eliminated the number one draw to the profession which means that even though we may gain some Jedi players, we will more than likely see a lot of them leave the profession as well (with a high possibility of more leaving than becoming Jedi).

heres an easy way you could get players to "opt out" of the player bounties is this: make them so that they can be paid off, for example, han solo owed jabba 15k, now, should he have been able/chose to pay that, he never would have been hunted, mind you, this probably shouldnt work for jeedai, but hey, this would be a relatively simple way to keep the carebears happy, and the powergamers happy.
