Thread: A chuckle for the smuggler
I made the mistake of going imperial smuggler on my server. I trot down to theed and immediatly 3 people stop from the PVP battle to come stand next to the recruiter. This should've tipped me off, but I figured they might be done for the day and needed to go on leave.
I check to see if my MS tag is on. It is. It almost always is and I'm betting these people are not asking for a slice, because as I'm moving they all have me targeted.........
No tells for a few seconds, so I start talking to the recruter to get some more FP and maybe a promotion. No sooner does the recruiter start talking when I get one ping.
Person: "Do you sell faction?"
I pop up my rank and immediatly respond with "I'm not Col." in spatial. My rank was Seargent.
This didn't deter him. Nor did it deter the other two standing by. This could be bad.
Person: "I need 1000FP"
I had to use the caculator at this point because:
A. I'm used to being rebel and having that bonus
B. I had no buff
The other two were standing in between me and the cantina. Whether this was intentional or not, I'll never know. Being in a server full of powergamers, I doubt it was intentional to stand between me and my safehaven where I usually slice weapons.
Isend him a price of 325k in tells and he blurts it out in spatial
Person: "Okay, you give me 1000 FP and I give you 325k" I winced at this. Not only was it sorely not done to discuss pricing in spatial, it seemed incredibly expensive to me since people were selling rebel faction at 95 CPU. One of the onlookers moved closer while the other ran away.
After I gave him his 1k, he then asked for 10k. /sigh. I told him it would be 3M if he promised not to talk prices in spatial anymore. He said (in spatial again.) "Lemmie go to the bank."
As he ran away the second onlooker gave me an order while the third came back. Apparently he was running to the bank also. I look on my radar to find two other known smugglers standing in the city square. I say in spatial. "I'm not a col, perhaps SmugglerName or SmugglerName sells cheaper faction."
Person2: She said she dosen't sell faction. But you do ![]()
So this was a trap all along /laugh. At this point I really needed to get back to grinding pilot because it was almost 1AM according to my computer clock which is set to stateside time. Not only was I losing money, but my time was running thin as people we logging for the night leaving me to grind alone during the day. Being the nice person I am, I ended up filling orders as my friend list emptied with each passing moment.
By the time I was done, only AFK people remained in my friend list. It's a long way back up tier 4, even with the bonus of mastering rebel pilot. I'm regrinding my tier 4 in turretsbecause frankly, I'm sorely not impressed with the imperial ships. They don't turn at 1/2 speed like the rebel ships and there's only one weapon slot. Back to Kashyyyk I go in my klunky Interceptor.
WowI can't believeI forgot about this.
Back when the Imperial crackdown was just getting started I landed in Bestine with my brand new beginer pilot ship. I then walked out into the town and got scaned for contraband (one of the two times I've ever been scaned) but they found some on me soI jumped on my speeder and got the heII out of town. I then proceded to realize that my ship was stuck at the starport. Well crap. So i start circling Bestine trying to find an ungaurdedopening to get back to the starport.I spent the next hour either prone or waiting for Stormtoopers to walk away from me finallyI got to a ungaurded shuttle port and bought a ticket from the Bestine shuttleport to the Bestine Starport.WhenI checkedhow long it was till the next shuttel it said 9 min 30 sec(back in the days of 10 min wait times on all shuttles). Crap. SoI found a safe haven and waited it out tillthe 9 and a half min where up and ran like heII to the shuttle right whenI got there and clicked my ticket I hear the "your going to die" music start as I get on the shuttle and shuttle to the starport.Whew, best smuggling I've ever done...wait only smuggling I've ever done but that's besides the point.
Ok, I've finally got a chuckle to add:
So there I was, standing in line at EB back on Launch Day. I bought my copy of SWG and rushed home to install and play. I spent two and a half years playing the game, dreams of Smuggling running through my head. Every now and then I'd think ofthe Millenium Falcon I owned as a kid, or watching "Star Wars" back at the Twin Suns Theatre in 1977.
I never got to Smuggle. I got a lot of hype. I watched GM come and go. I watched great In Concept docs get posted, only to disappear. I heard the "Revamp is just around the corner" one to many times. But mostly, I remember the Jedi. The ones who swore up and down that they were special and should be the biggest kids on the block because they WORKED for it. The ones who came here and biatched about how LD was overpowered, or who came to gloat that they got FD nerfed for us. The ones who told us in all of their wisdom that if the Smugglers just "played nice, didn't rock the boat, and towed the SOE party line" we'd get special attention. The same ones who also thought we were getting overly dramatic because we didn't get any love after 2.5 years.
Last night, I was laughing my arse off.
Those same jedi are now running like roaches caught in the kitchen light. Guess what? The party's over. Or at least I hope it is. I hope with this "Last Ditch" effort, SOE realizes that the Jedi alpha class was not what we wanted. That millions of credits spent on pearls, hundreds of hours spent in mind-numbing Village grind missions, and the ability to wear pajamas out in daylight is not what a lot of us signed up for.
We're one of 9 now. And if you're serious about throwing the baby out with the bath water, throw us a bone and give us gritty, nasty, Smuggling missions. It may just help save this "Total Experience."
Me: Sure here read this email on what slicing can do.
DA: It doesn't mention the slice I need.
Me: What do you want me to do?
DA: I am a level 35 and want you to slice this pistol so I can use it.
Me: I can't do that.
DA: Can't or won't?
Me: Noone can. You have to have the level and be certified for it.
DA: Well slice this one then.
Trades me a High Cap Scatter and is flying a Pistoleer profession title.
Me: You know you can't use this unless you are a Bounty Hunter right?
DA: You broke it?
Me: No it is just you are not certified for it.
DA: You owe me 4 million credits.
Me: You paid 4 million for this?
DA: Yes now pay me.
Me: well considering the slice was worth 5 million I would say you still owe me for parts.
DA: Oh, well what do I do now?
Me: Sell it to a Master Bounty Hunter and buy another pistol.
I traded him back the pistol and got a 1 million credit tip. I never did the slice, and was just trying to mess with his head for being rude. Feeling bad, I sent him a tell saying this, and returned his money. Two hours later...
DA: Hey since you were honest can you slice this rifle so I can use it?
Me: Are you certified for the rifle?
DA: No that is why I need a slice.
Me: ok listen.. take the rifle back to whoever sold it to you. Ask them if you can return it and ask the Weapon Smith to help you get a weapon that you can use.
DA: Weaponsmith?? I traded the pistol for it.
Me: What did you buy?
DA: A lightning rifle.
Me: ohh you can not use that one either.
After 6 conversations like this..
DA: Hey thank you for your help, but I am quitting the game.
Me: sorry to hear that, but if you read the manual it really isn't that hard to grasp.
DA: well I just wanted to check it out.
At this point I got tipped 5 million credits...
Me: wow where did you get all that cash?
DA: I sold a quest container to a guy who heard it was part of the jedi quest.
Ok at this point I just had to start laughing. Not because of the poor guy who I later found out was not a native English speaker, and I helped him get back in and enjoy the game. However this guy who did not have a clue at the time sold a locked container for 10 million credits to a dumb a$$ who wanted to unlock.

Wow, you actually got to do some smuggling. I'm jealous.
