Yeah, I want to smuggle in space, with actually cargo in my hold. not just in my datapad or inventory. Also if Smuggling in space isn't important. Why then is the only "so called" smuggling missions in game, from the TALUS SPACE STATION! I just did it the other day. Flying from waypoint to way point, meeting contacts swapping goods...and getting shot at along the way. That is smuggling IMHO. Heck. Jabba's pilot trainer has me also SMUGGLING some Rebel info to Imperials at the moment, while I get shot apart (yes, thise death watch guys are a problem for me at the moment. anyone on Starsider that has a UBERLVL 7 weapon let me know!). If Smugglers aren't supposed to Smuggle in space.. why is what little crappy Smuggler content there for us.....in...space??? Hmm??? They already have the pattern for what to do, just need to implent it. I can see starting us off on the ground. Only advanced Smugglers should have space missions. And Space missions should be complicated. Waypoint, to waypoint..and back again.
Kinda like the BH system (calm down, I'm only BH for simple toolkits..nothing more..oh credits are nice too)
First row, is simple same planet stuff, next level (in investigation tree) you have to planet hop, and it gets more complicated. Maybe even at that level, you can travel from planet to plaent. But the next level, make you launch to a waypoint in space...then to a planet toa contact..then back into space with another waypoint. I want Smuggler to be one of the hardest professions in the game!! So were rare..and commited (ok we already are) and we can demand huge prices for our goods. Cause again, die hard grinders.. Who enjoy danger, and complex missions. Leave the simple stuff for the Jedi. Smugglers do things the hard way!!

First thanks for taking the time to do this. Not that I think anyone in the development community listens.
Star Wars Smuggling was from the first a Space based occupation. Hans did no ground smuggling everything was based on moving stuff from one place to another. So should it be in the game if the game is really to be a spin off from the themes in the movies. This is the key reason why it must be done. It keeps Star Wars a linked idea. There are other reasons.
1. Space is simple to code since there are already space missions as part of the quests. Making them level specific might be hard, but not real hard. There are delivery missions into space now as part of JTL so why not just continue them.
2. Pilot and learn from the smugglers and then it can go to GCW missions for all classes of players.
3. It would also allow merchant missions. Things that can be made on only one planet, but with a market on others. Might help get the artisians back in the game.
4. BH could have missions in space based on what is learned by smuggling in space. (this seems to be a very popular profession with developers since it keeps getting role and it is very star wars even beyound JEDI)

That's a good idea, but I'd like it even more if we had another slot in our POB ships to add a "hidden" compartment. Something that would give like a +80 or something to avoiding scans. We'd have to take the cargo from our inventory and place it inside the ships compartment. That way it'd give us one hell of a reason to smuggle in POBs rather than a fighter (no bonus at all in a fighter).
I just don't understand why they can't have routine space scans like they do on the ground, where an Imp ship stops you, scans your ship for contraband (especially if you're flying in a high-risk zone) and it takes what % of evasion you have (maybe if shipwrights were able to craft a hidden compartment that has an evasion bonus which only smugglers could rig onto their ship), and does a roll to decide if the stuff is found. If they find it, you have three choices:
1. Surrender your cargo, fail the mission and lose face/faction with the underworld people you work for (with the added possibility of getting visibility and/or your boss hiring a hit on you).
2. Dogfight it out and lose Imperial Faction, with the possibility of more troops waiting for you on the ground depending on how many Imperials you take out, how high they rank and what CL you are.
3. Run and hope to god you don't get shot down before you can hyperjump the hell out of that space sector (your guns should be disabled if you choose to run, due to added stress on your ship hypering quicker than usual. Perhaps an ability that speeds up the hyperjump process, but disables weapons due to power shifting?).
Why in the world can't we dock with a ship in space to deliver cargo with the risk of pirates trying to steal our stuff? Why isn't space being integrated like it should be? Any good smuggler would make a drop in SPACE, not on the ground (unless it was in a REALLY desolate location). It's already in the code for pirates to attack people during missions and so on, why in the world can't it be like that for Smuggling?
/sigh
No one that can do anything about it cares anyway. I feel like I just wasted a whole 10 minutes of my life thinking this stuff up.

It was in no way, shape or form a waste of your time Veela. It still shows the passion some of us still hold to this profession. Fantastic ideas mention.
The worst idea is one never mentioned.
Keep the idea of Smuggler alive.
