Thread: State of the Weaponsmith Forum... Tips/Concerns/Etc...

First of all I would like to say that I have been monitoring this particular forum as well as posting every now and then since November of 2003. With that said, I would like reissue a statement I made a long while ago as I see it creeping up on the weaponsmith community as a whole and didn't like it the first time and still don't like it.

Contained in the weaponsmith forum are thousands of posts made by weaponsmiths requesting help from other weaponsmiths. This is what the forum is made for technically the discussion of our profession and our craft. These posts are responded for the most part by kind and sincere weaponsmiths willing to help out someone with less knowledge than themselves. On the other hand there is a second group of responses which I will call the bad seeds of our community. These people will be addressed shortly.

Also contained in this vast forum are various post of non-weaponsmiths asking all kinds of questions. WHY? Because if you had a question about weapons, why wouldn't you come to the one place that the majority of viewers is in fact weaponsmiths. These posts are usually done with much quickness and ignorance not really seeking out answers for themselves, but that does not mean the rudeness of responses is necessary. Sometimes you just can't seem to find the answer to the question you are looking for, we all know that the search option on the forums is like a stubbed big toe. So basically, it comes down to posting your question and hoping for a response. The responses are usually plentiful yet only two to five of them are usually useful. The rest of the posts are well, rude, ignorant, berating, trolling, obnoxious, belittling posts that attempt to justify their post by convincing readers that the initial poster's post is in the wrong place or shouldn't be asked so any response goes. These people once again are the bad apples of our society.

I propose that we help clean up our society. We have multitudes of weaponsmiths that answer questions on a daily basis, and those that answer questions every now and again. If you can't post a proper response to the thread, then don't post at all. If you can't seem to click reply on any posts besides those you will post torments and acronyms, as well as shouts that destroy the perception of the weaponsmith community I ask you not to post at all, more so, just don't come to the weaponsmith forums. If there comes a time when you can't seem to calm yourself down because someone is looking for a weaponsmith somewhere or something more relevant to the trade forums please ask them politely to access the other forums and ask there or just don't post at all. If someone is looking for a weaponsmith on server X, link them to the sticky thread, tell them about the sticky thread, be nice, or don't post.

Basically what it comes down to is this idiotc this isn't allowed here mentality creates an arrogant evil we don't want you here feel for the weaponsmith community as a whole. I know every community is going to have its bad apples, but we need to get ours under control because it is truly ruining these forums. I know that people are going to flame this post, which only proves all my points, but so be it. Its asadday when the majority of the replies I have read so far have beenrants, WFN's, or backlashes to what I would consider decent posts, lets fix this.

List of things to consider when posting:

--- Am I responding to the original post?

--- Am I denegrating the weaponsmith community by making this post?

--- If the post isn't suppose to be on this forum, doI really need to respond to it?

--- If so, then amI providing useful information that can solve the persons problems, i.e. links.? And not violating any other posting considerations.

I apreciate the sentiment behind your post but this is generally what happens everytime

Player makes a request for trade

Weaponsmith points them to the trade forum

Player gets major attitude

Weaposmiths jump all over that

Trean validates the players request

Player walks away thinking they were right

Flaming the players that come here is really not acceptable; agreed.

But you counter flaming is even worse.

Players coming here to make requests are lazy, any server you are on you can pretty much throw a rock and hit a weaponsmith there are so many so I guess I just don't understand why anyone would need to come here for a trade request, nor do I understand why any of us would want to work for them.

Trean I share your antimosity toward the ignorant UB3R kids...Please help my cause by coming over to Tarquinas.

But in general your uppidity suggestion toward the "community" which is composed entirely of the people your going against right now... Minus the five that post constructively to non-weaponsmith types, is doing little more than causing grief for you. I support you man really. But I have learned how to stand clear of the slinging mud...

Why not, link the person, 1 star the post, and not acknowledge the post from there on out? That works too, and it still doesn't create this aura of elitists I am getting from the weaponsmith forum at the moment. The ONLY reason I would post in a thread requesting X on server Y is because of all the bashing in the thread. Maybe the question was never answered with a URL or link to the "Weaponsmiths List" or "Trade Forums" and just constant bashing and trolling has occurred.

I agree with you on being friendly and helpful.

For the most part there is little flaming between WS's, but there are some who like to jump on the non-WS's seeking help.

Point them elsewhere like you have done before.......but just do it "Nicely" as you boot them in their Arse!
