Heya, gang.
I've been a MWS for about 4 months now, and I've gota problem.
My pockets are empty, while most other weaponsmiths are rich.
I finished MWS with about 10k in my pocket. All the resources I need are very rare and very expensive on my server, so I've been farming for 4 months, but still haven't gotten to the point where I can compete.
I've been running missions here and there, and managed to scrape up a few extra credits.
Since harvesters are so expensive, I can't seem to purchase any more (I have 3 mineral extractors, BER 8-10). So I don't get many resources when I do harvest.
I was thinking about making WUK's for some income, but the strain it would put on the few resources I have would set me back too far. I thought about powerups, but I'd need to drop the TK skills that are keeping me financially afloat to make them, and it's risk outwieghs it's benefit (especially since the resources I'd need for decent powerups aren't around at the moment)
I thought about investing in loot components to get ahead, but this billionaire weaponsmith on our server buys them all out as soon as they go up for auction.
I tried making some newbie weapons to get ahead, but the cost to make the weapons outweighs what a newbie could buy them for.
As you can see, I'm in a tight spot, and I'm starting to get discouraged.
Are there any tips that any of you established weaponsmiths could give me so I could get ahead?

I have to tell you, I never got rich selling Striker Pistols. The bulk of my cash came from being in a great guild that would give me all the DXR-6b schematics, Geonosian Schematics, and Geo Cubes that they found. These Geo Weapons are still selling, even though the prices have come down. On Infinity I sell the DXR's for 40-50k. Basically you have to sell what the people want. I noticed that you can sell VK's, Scout Blasters, and Spray Sticks by the crate as the grinders still use them. I also have come to the realization that resource selling is a great way to build up the coffers. Remember that on average, if you have a good spot, it only costs .3-.5 CPU to mine a resource. I have a number of fusion generators that just mine Radioactives, and I usually only sell them for 1-2 cpu. 1 Fusion generator can mine almost 100k of resources. I think it only costs me 10k(Master Merchant Modifiers includes) to mine 100k of rads, so even if I sell them for 1cpu, I make 90k on them. And believe me, when people see you selling large blocks of power at 1cpu, there will ALWAYS be people to but them.
I hope I have helped you in some way. Remember most of all in this game......have fun.

About selling newbie weapons, how much do you sell them for?
Many newbies have lots of creds from begging, an average person will give one 3-6k credits!
Just stock high end marksman/brawler weapons, and label them as newbie ones

Best way is to do mining. You could make a deal with any of the resource dealers like Mucus. Or mine on your own and sell.
You can get a heavy harvester for 100k if you shop around. If you are broke completly I might have a few extra harvesters you can borrow.

OK, first, ignore the fact that I posted this twice, lol, once as a new post instead of a reply, I am dense, what can I say. hehe.
Hey there fellow smith, heh.
Same story here mainly at first, not selling much other than starter things on bazaars, such as D18s, DH17 Pistol, Carbines and the ever popular DH17 Snub or short carbines.
I belong to a guild also where most of my guildmates give me schematics they find or come across for fancy things, and also use their lots
to help the crafters in the guild with resources.
Some level of merchant is a necessity so that you have a place to sell from, and advertising 3 although taking a lot of spots lets you advertise them.
Some look on the CTRL-V planetary, and some just look with the map running and stop at whatever looks interesting.
Maybe include some form of a name, brand, or other on your weapons you produce, factories are great if you happen to make a particularly good run of something, I would definitely recommend crating power handlers, scops, stocks, etc mainly for convenience on your part.
If your having a hard time getting established, include a waypoint for your vendor, with your brand, or whatever you like, so that people will know where to come for it, and keep the vendor as stocked as you can, most of the vendor browser types like variety, hehe.
See whats popular on your server where you plan to sell from, some planets obviously have better economy's than others, and make those.
D18 pistols, DH17 Snub carbines, Laser Carbines, Laser Rifles, T21s, Scout Blasters, Power Hammers, 2h curved swords, 1h curved swords seem to always sell good for me.
If you can scrape the parts for flame throwers or Lightning cannons, those are good movers at a reasonable price.
Anyways, enough ranting,

Well, this is a slightly different take on things, but if you can hunt at all, you might want to take advantage of some of the avian spawns going on over the past week. You can easily get over 200k in an evening. This will let you reinvest that money in resources, harvesters, etc.
Starting out isn't easy. I'm doing it myself, fortunately with the help of some friends. But some of these opportunities are well worth taking advantage of.

I have been around for only a little while and I can make melee weapons as good as anyone. What I did while I worked on mastering weaponsmith(took my time) was watched swgcraft and got on some good resource deposits. I got some very nice kammris iron 992 SR, the best Desh Copper(366 UT) on serverfor making vibro units and a number of other good resources. Now I did have money from a fighting alt to get harvesters so it wasnt much of a problem. The hardesting thing is to get people to some buy your stuff.
Try joining a guild and seeing if they will help you or something like that. You should be able to get customers hopefully as long as you keep a good stock. An important thing is sell things that you know will sell like power hammers or VK's. Or with ranged sell dx2 pistols, T21 rifles, jawa rifles... etc Sell what people with money will buy.

Ario, it may be true that other Weaponsmiths on our server are rich compared to you, but it's fair to point out that people didn't just start tipping our bank accounts for no reason. Some people grind Weaponsmith and say "Wow, I'm a Weaponsmith now!" when in reality they are not. Completing the grind means nothing except for being able to wear the title. Gathering quality resources means everything.
When I started gathering resouces for WS back in late February I had virtually nothing. I was buying BER2's and 4's off the bazaar just because they had more value in the power left on them than they cost. I started selling some of the resources I was harvesting on the bazaar and put nearly everything I made back into buying bigger harvesters. Then I joined a guild and had a few harvesters gifted to me and I continued to upgrade until I had enough BER13's for my two toon's lots. As I got going and started doing more homework on how to really get going on Weaponsmith, I came to realize that I needed to get organized about what I was going to need to harvest, and that I was going to have to monitor every new spawn that I could possibly need. I didn't even discover sologroup missions until I was nearly ready to open shop. It was a struggle at times and sometimes frankly I was sick of having to run missions just so I could move my harvesters. I stuck it out, and since the end of February I have probably surveyed and minedclose to300 different resources and probably have somewhere around 30 million units of resources, maybe more. For the most part, I evaluate every resource that shows up on our server, making sure I know what it's used for and how it ranks against other previous spawns.
The fact of the matter is WS is a lot of work, and you have to invest a lot of time andeffortto be good at it, unless you get lucky enough to inherit someone else's resources. You have open to you the same path that other players faced when they too decided to become a WS and it's up to you to decide if you want to remain a dabbler or become a serious Weaponsmith. As far as the resources that have spawned on our server over the last few months, In many cases they have been best-ever resources. Your challenge as a weaponsmith is essentially never to miss a needed spawn. It takes nearly daily vigilance for that and some people just don't have the time or inclination for that.
You know I like you Ario and am willing to offer some assistance, but I've heard you speak before of the "rich" weaponsmiths as though they are impediments to your success as a weaponsmith. The only determinant of your success as a WS is the effort you put into it and the reception you get from the server community to your product, which will be based on the quality of your weapons and little else. In this post you pointed to a particular smith who buys all the loot componenents before you can get to them, but I honestly don't ever recall seeing you bidding on weapons loot and no one smith buys all the loot. There are at least ten smiths that regularly bid on stuff on our trade forum.
As I think Bermag suggested, get hooked up with one of the resource dealers like Mucus on our server. He or Jorj will hook you up with BER13's if you dont' have them. Rather than selling your yield for credits, make an arrangement where they pay the maint/pwr and you come up with some kind of split of the yield or sell for credits if you just want to buy resources.
The bottom line is you arenot likely to log in one day and find 100k stacks of resources sitting on your doorstep, you've got to do what everyone else does and go out and get them. If you do that for a few months and make sure not to miss any good stuff, then before long you'll be able to make weapons on par with everyone else. If you want to spend time deflecting attention towards bad spawns or other weaponsmiths you are just wasting valuable time.
