Thread: Is Weapon Decay Random?

Basically I want to know if the decay of a weapon is in some way randomized or are there different decay rates for different weapons? The reason I ask is this: I mastered TK and thus used a VK and found that the VK lasted for a LONG time - I got LOTS of fighting out of it before it decayed (I never sliced one - just bought the best I could find from a quality master weaponsmith). Now I just dropped TK and am using a rifle (just made Novice Rifleman last night). Yesterday I bought my first Laser Rifle (best I could find - not sliced) and began using it. It decayed down to 25% (or so) in just around 4 hours of combat time - FAR, FAR faster than any VK ever did. Thus, I am now curious - is this normal and if so, why? I thank you in advance for any advice you can give.

I've always been lead to believe that a weapon's decay was a direct result of how much damage you dealt with it, though I couldn't give you an exact ratio. I suppose this ratio could be different for different weapons-you may want to try asking this on the weaponsmith forums

Sounds like you might of had a power up on when you bought it.

Hi, I posted this first in the general area but got nothing useful except a suggestion that I post it here .

For example, do rifles simply by design decay faster than VKs? BTW, there were no powerups involved in either the VK or the Rifle I used. I thank you in advance for any advice you can give.

I think that the weapon decay is dependent on the specials you use. I was a Master Marksman using over charge shot 2 with different weapons and all of them decayed fast, but when I used different specials the decay did not seem as bad. I could be wrong, but that is my observation. Also when I was a master commando my flamethrower seemed to last forever.

weapon decay is probably as random as weapon repair

Weapons decay faster if you use specials. Overcharge shotis one of the heavy decaying specials.

Also they decay much faster if you put a powerup on them.

ecery special has a certain amount it decays a weapon. slcing and using powerups both double what that is. so say overcharge shot one decays 1/2 a point(one of the largest amounts) if it is sliced(or powerup) it will decay one point per shot. if it is sliced AND has a powerup it will decay 2 points per shot. the amount of damage it does also makes a difference but i cant rember what off the top of my head

Slicing doesn't affect the decay rate - just powerups

Actually you got it backwards. Slicing DOES effect decay rates and PUP's don't unless you use speed ones, but if you do that of course they're going to decay faster since you're attacking more often.

Overchargeshot, and Overchargeshot 2 will make your guns decay much faster. As far as I know, those are the only specials that have an effect on decay rate, though.

Its very random and has a wide range of decay rates. I had a scythe that I had just repaired after using it for a month since last repair. I attacked a piket lair and I lost a condition point(s) on EVERY swing of my scythe. That one lair had decayed my entire fully repaired scythe. I had it repaired again at 25%... yeah same day. then it lasted another 3 weeks with no problems, and yes lots of piket lairs.

What this led me to believe is that the decay rate is written when it gets repaired.

And no, I don't use powerups, and yes it was sliced when it was manufactured. Now I have 6 scythes and switch between them all.
