Thread: Ethics advice for contract job

Hi,

I've been asked to do a potentially lucrative mass production job for a client using semi-rare schematics.

The only issue is, although I have enough of the principal metal used in construction, I'm not sure it cuts the grade. Conductivity (50%) is about 450 and overall quality (50%) is about 550.

Last night I scoured the galaxy looking for a better supply. My server Farstar is reknowned for its poor resources by the way. None of the many resouce shops I checked had any better quality metal in stock, in fact all of the stuff I did see made my stuff look great. The metal available for mining at the moment is also really rubbish in comparison.

Now I want the cash, but I also don't want to tarnish my reputation. I also think that there will be more business coming my way from this client in the future. But, if I lose the job, the client will find another WS and I'll miss out on all that future work.

So, my ethics question. Do I still take the job?

Without knowing the specifics of who's providing the schematic(s) and the amout of uses and required loot components etc, its a little tough to answer this.

However I would be honest with the client and explain the resource restrictions. Explain that you want to make a test run (if possible) and if you're not happy with the results then you won't accept the contract, he can either wait for better resources or find another WS.

I know that I would not put my name on sub-par weapons and if the clientunderstands this then it should help in future business dealings. If the client doesn't care about quality then it's not someone I'd really care to work with in the future anyway. Good luck.

Yep I considered doing a test, and see if both me and my client are happy with it. I shall do that and see how it goes. Thanks for the advice.

You might also consider consulting with some other WSs on your server to see if you can find out what the best type of this metal on your server is. That way you can find out how far off you are from what is actually possible on your server.

Yeah, I'm also hoping that SWG craft resourse database will come back on soon so I can compare to what has been available over the last few months. If my stuff still looks relatively good I guess I can't complain.

Well, conductivity-wise, you can check Lunariel's Resource Guide for comparison.

That is an amazing link that has just gone in my bookmarks, thanks,

(I don't understand why these boards don't automatically parse URLs either. It feels archaic.)

Yup, Lunariel did some truely fantastic work with that.

So, you've probably spotted that the Conduct on your stuff isn't too bad (as compared to it's potential).

As for the OQ, you'll need to check SWGcraft to see if it's been much better in the past.

In my opinion, make the damn gun.

Take the job man, it'll only go to LK-tech otherwise. They're the microsoft of our galaxy, big, mean, faceless corporation of money grabbing, tight-fisted.....lol, getting a tad carried away there

As stated above, without knowing what the order is it's hard to advise, but where limited use schematics are concerned, quantity may be of higher importance to said customer than quality? (Within reason, of course), so if you have the components to knock out more weapons that he's expecting from his limited use schematic, explain that to him and chances are he'll be more than happy to give you the job

by semi-rare schematics are you talking about featherweight fwg5's and modified republics?

oh heck, no worries there mate. You can farm these schematics, you can literally run in... go thru the 2 rooms (assuming the cave is somewhat busy .. the mobs will be taken care of by other campers) and talk to the npc that gives the schematic. Then you can run out of the cave, reset the mission, and go back in again and get another one etc etc. I get these so frequently I dont even bother with factory runs, I just hand craft them all to max my cubes. As far as resources go, they are almost identical to the DX2 and DXR6 with the exception of the phrik aluminum and that is such a small amount it doesnt change the way they turn out anyway. How do your DX2's and DXR6b's compare to others?
