Just added novice Armorsmith today. Forget it. I thought how cool would it be to sell both. But between needing scout to loot hides, and tailor to make syn cloth you will have no skill points for combat... As it isI gotta keep enough merchant to have a few vendors. Anyone out there a pure crafter only? and what do you do?

I am a Weapon Smith and Architect and I also have the merchant skills. I have two accounts so I have a pure Arisian guy anda Pure Fighter. But also you could have characters on diffrent servers if you don't want two accounts.

I'd say its quite possible to be profficient in both skills, but yes, you'll have to forget about combat for the most part...learn novice tailoring and run crap loads of your componants to get you started, but you're still looking at a huge investment into hide and bone. (make some good scout friends) Be a tough road as you'll be needing to buy alot of stuff just to acquire master in the fields and start making some decent money...and then of course that's when the real investment comes. I'd admire you if you could do it though

I am nowhere near finished but my template is going to be:
Master Artisan
Master Weaponsmith
Master Armoursmith
Tailor x2xx
Merchant 3x12
I won't be able to do Wookie armour I think, and to be fair my biggest concern is the amount of grinding required for this template.

it is doable from a skill-point perspective. Your biggest challenge is maintaining the best 88 resources for MWS and keeping on top of those to make sure something better didnt spawn combining that with all the resources of MAS. Granted some of the resource names overlap but I believe their critical stats are different enough that you cuold be looking at doubling the number of resources you have to stay ontop of. I tried doing chef at the same time as MWS but it became entirely too much work for me and found myself not enjoying chef at all so i dropped it.

I"m attempting to do both. I am already a master WS and working on Master TK and AS. I have so much invested in resources for WS already. I have a 2nd characterfor the slots andmerchant/tailor (all her slots are filled for WS resources already) I'm worried that when I become master AS it will be too much work and I won't have time to enjoy the rest of the game. All my time will be spent gathering resources and working out the *science* of both WS and AS. Fortunately, my guild does alot of hunting, so the hides shouldn't be too bad. But I think that WS and AS are two of the most demanding professions and trying to do them together might be getting in over your head.

Well if you wish to spend every waking hour playing SWG go ahead, the resource comboniation(specifics i mean) between AS and WS is ungodly large.

I have been master WS and droid engineer for a while and can confirm that keeping track of the resources for both professions is a huge task.
I'm at the point of seriously considering dropping one or both crafting professions. Just waiting on JTL to see what crafting is like in that.

I play on Scylla with a MWS, MAS, marksman 0400, Artisan 4044, merchant 0404 Moncal. I've been MWS since the end of february, and my weapons sales are just starting to take off (thanks to my ability to find people to barter scythes schematics to scythe blades, and recent resources spawns being so nice).
I do have a second account of which i have a MTKA 0002 pistoleer 1414 smuggler 2000 medic and novice scout wookie.
I tried doing MWS, M Architect, M Artisan and 3404 Merchant for awhile, but dang Architecting was tough! Mostly the market on my server for architect, i couldn't figure out how to get going.
As for my current MWS and MAS skills, I do not plan on doing composite, just trying to make good chitin/ubese/padded (on a more custom work basis) and trying to mass producewook armor.
It is feeling a bit too much trying to get going on the armour smithing portion, and inventory managment has been a night mare! (I know about storing my stuff on vendors and all, butIdon't want to do that).
Good luck with your decision, though you will spend alot of time crafting and resource hunting ^_^

Very interestin comments and I take your experience onboard.
Maybe I shall consider doing either AS or WS and taking something else, such as Smuggling so I can slice my own products. Either way, I respect the input.

Just dabbling on the character builder:
Master Weaponsmith
Master Smuggler
3xx1 Merchant
Pre-reqs
That may be worth considering
Bah, now youve got my spending 4 hours re-working my template!
But Im glad for your input.

I've been Master Weaponsmith/Master Armorsmith for about 7 months. Recently. it seems that there are many on Intrepid that have followed suit. I believe all of them have at least one alt.
I rarely sells weapons now. Not because of resource shortages or problems (I have nearly 45 million units of resources) but because I sell 300-350 suits of armor a week. If you are going to mass produce armor you can forget about mass producing weapons ( and vice versa). It's nice to have the best of every resource to craft but time becomes the critical factor for me.
I'l be glad to answer any questions you may have about doing both. I'm as experienced as anyone at it. BTW, if you are wondering about storage issues I am using the following for storage:
15 Clothing and Factories
4 Equipment Factories
1 Naboo PA Hall
2 Medium Naboo Homes
1 Large Generic Home
3 Naboo Small Homes
3 Small Naboo (Round) Homes
1 Small Generic Home
And of course bank account and vendors when necessary.
