Thread: Is it still worth playing?
Everytime I log in, I can only see the negatives in being a WS: crafting doesn't matter much anymore; making cap'd weapons isn't challenging; tell hell; and many other annoyances. Having a second "full-time" job is not what I want. I used to enjoy being a WS, so I didn't mind the time demands, but now I do.
So, now I'm asking for help: Aside from the friends I've made on my server and in the forums, what other reasons would there be to continue playing and/or being a WS? I haven't made any decision yet, so your input will help me make up my mind.
Thanks.

Last week, my father passed away and now I can't find any reason to continue playing SWG.

condolence with your father
as far as it being worth playing...
Sometimes it is. when I first crafted the Hunting rifle I felt a thrill I hadnt felt for a loong time, but it only lasted till I realized that people didnt really want this weapon, as it is outdone by the ALR and the HLR
Using time to cap the weapons was fun for about 2 weeks... now...
well tbh Im bored to death by crafting ALR and HLR and that is practically all that ever sells...
Today I was asked for the stats on my VL and I was embarrased to list them (even thou Im using the best possible resources....) Converted VLs looted from NS before the CU is so much better than what I could make even with Nym motors.
Theres still credits to be found in WSing but as far as creativity and diversity goes Im afraid its gone (at least for now))
Im bored and the devs are so focussed on jedi issues, that I fear the crafters has been forgotten.
(I really hope that the weapon props for the Entertainers is crafted by WS thou, but thats just me hoping... )
I had more fun before the CU hit. And even after, I still had fun figuring out the new system. I even coded up some models for the new weapons to play with tuning. In the end, I abandoned that since it was pointless: If you throw a big enough tissue/shard at a ranged weapon, you can probably cap 2 if not 3 stats.
Where's the creativity? Where's the challenge?
I never did this for the credits. Rather, I enjoyed helping my customers out. It was also a lot of fun talking to them. But now, IMO we've all been turned into widget factories.
I know there are no easy solutions, especially when balancing a complex game like an MMO. And some people may pass this off as just another WS complaining. But, we really lost a unique crafting system when the CU hit.
I'm still hoping that someone can point out something positive about being a WS.
Also, with weapon enhancements, crafted weapons are way better than loot. I used the ROTW weapons untill I got enough saved up to get some good shards and 16scopes, my ROTW weapons dont come close to the speed, and damage output of my FWG5, espcially with the accuracy bonus. The action cost is also only a few points higher than my ROTW pistols. For me the best ROTW pistol I have is the tchotte flare pistol, it looks cool, but, it does about 300 to 400 damage less than my FWG5 per shot.
Problem right now I've found that money is alot tighter than before since the CU group mission NPC level cap, and the mass increase of Jedi's. Hopefully, alot of the JEDI make Bounty Hunter, or Scout/Combat alt characters.
In short, yes the looted weapons dont have enough penalties on them to be less atractive than crafted, but, good players will figure out that a looted gun is garbage compared to a good weaponsmith, good resources and some good loot to enhance the weapon.
Sorry for your loss, I hope weaponsmith gets better for you and all the other crafters in SWG.
Well, at least we didn't get the shaft like Armorsmiths did. They went from the most interesting crafting profession to easiest (at least in terms of crafting complexity). Argueably WS become more interesting, weapon caps aside.
