Thread: Help a Miner find the right stats for WS resources, please
As a resource harvester, I was wondering what the important stats are for the following metals used by Weaponsmiths. I'm trying to figure out if which are pertinent and which don't matter. Please help me make your product better. Thanks.
Rhodium Steel
Duralloy Steel
Duranium Steel
Ryll Armophous Gem
Phrik Aluminum
Ostrine Carbonate Ore
Diatium Copper
Quadranium Steel
Axidite Iron
Plumbum Iron
Dolovite Iron
Desh Copper
Class 3 Solid Petro Fuel
Platinite Copper
Doonium Iron
Alantium Carbonate Ore
I care most about Conductivity and Overall on most metals. As most schematics are 50%/50%.
There are a few items that require high Shock - rifle barrels, etc.
But for the most part stick with Conductivity and Overall.
Example: Elos Platinite Copper - 877 Conductity and 999 Overall SWEET STUFF!!
Most of what you need can be found at swgcraft.com. In their resource section, you cal select the resource name like 'Alantium Carbonate Ore' and it will show you what schematics use it. Select the pertinant ones and the schematic should show the statistics it takes into account. I know some of the schematics are missing a bit of the data, but I plan on updating some of this information next week. Many other crafters do the same so those I noticed missing stats are probably fixed already.
If I were at home, I would be able to assist with hard numbers but I am not, sorry.
Lastly, almost all weapons, if not all, use 50% OQ and 50% Conductivity in the final combine.
Just a little more help if you would, please. If I sound totally clueless about smithing, it's because I am. I need more information to better serve your community.
The above list of specfic metals was generated by going to swgcraft, pulling up common schematics, like advanced blaster rifle barrel and noting the metals necessary to build one: rhodium, duralloy, duranium, metal and ryll gem. The experimental properties seem to be tied to Cond and SR for this one. So if I went looking for Rhodium, those are the 2 stats I ideally want to see maxed, yes?
However, what should I do if I come across something like Kelsh Copper with very high OQ and Cond? That metal doesn't seem to be used as a specific component for any weapon schematic but it could be used as the "metal" component for theabove schematic, right?
My question is: If it's not one of the specific metals mentioned above, should I bother mining it anyway if it has very high OQ and Cond? Or should I just stick to looking for the specific metals referenced in the schematics?

If you find a metal with high (980+) CO and OQ then suck the place dry. I know that I want to buy a lot of it because a lot of the guns uses pure metal.
And as an Artisan I can use it for Powerups.
If you find Polymer with high OQ then you can sell that to. (or any chemical with high OQ to Artisan)

so polysteel copper 977 cond 815 OQ = good? what would something like this sell for (fromcollector to smith?)
This would be really good polysteel. I can't give you an exact cpu price, but prolly at least 3-4 if it's a current vein. If you hold onto it for a few weeks, you could probably get around 7-10 cpu (at least on Corbantis).
Generally speaking Conductivity and Overall Quality are the most important stats for making firearms (melee weapons usually use Shock Resistance, munitions usually use Decay Resistance, OQ or sometimes Unit Toughness). However, you should keep in mind that some resources spawn so rarely that it doesn't matter what the stats are, you should just harvest as much of them as possible.
For example, on Corbantis Diatium Copper, Ostrine Ore, Irolunn Reactive Gas, Rhodium Steel, Axidite Iron, Rainbow Gemstone, Ryll Gemstone and Alantium Oreare all rare to one degree or another, so should command a good price no matter what their stats are (of course, if the stats happen to be good, then you'll naturally be able to get an even better price
).
Hope this helps.

the vein i hit is pretty low (30%) and I am sampling manually (no big machines), resource just became availableon my (kauri) server in the last little while. UG, WAY too many resources to keep track of LOL! (just started SWG about 2 weeks ago)

If this is the polysteel you are talking about, this is what I recommend:
1) Go to the bazaar and buy a Personal Harvestor (or up to 10 if you can afford them). Get some power off the bazaar too (but don't may more than 2 cpu for it).
2) Survey around and find a higher concentration. The good concentration should already have entire fleets of heavy harvestors on them, but that's okay because your PMM's can fit in the tiny places that their large harvestors can't. A minnow among the whales, so to speak. ![]()
3) Harvest the heck out of it, until it runs out. Run missions to support yourself if you have to.
4) If you are going WS, hold onto whatever you get for dear life. Don't squander it away on grinding or making bad guns for people, just save it until you get at least Techniques IV
5) If you aren't going WS, then sell it on the bazaar. Check current prices for resources throughout the galaxy to get an idea of what to charge, then put it up. If you are despare for cash, sell a little below market average. If you can hold on a while, sell it at market price. If you really don't need the cash, then hold onto it for a few weeks and sell it at sharply higher prices (provided no better polysteel has spawned in the meantime).
Hope this helps.

thanks, i hopped cities and found a nice little 78% spot ![]()
bad thing is it is inside city limits so for now i am digging with bare hands, good thing - i am the only one here so far!
i've just started with tailoring (novice) and can use the metal in some of my sub combines, but if it's not going to make a huge difference (quality) then I will probably bazaar it or trade it for stuff i need.
thx again for your help
