I have no clue how to determine resource quality as I just started as a Novice Artisan. What numbers should I look at and what am I looking for?

Well, there's a bit more to it than that. The important stat depends on what you are crafting. The schematic tells you which stat/stats are important for the item. For example, some items use Overall Quality, others use Shock Resistance, Conductivity, Unit Toughness, or multiple stats. Any appropriate resource with high scores in those stats are good for that item.

I would highly reccomend you visit www.swgcraft.com, Take a look at the ws schematics and make a list of the resources and the important stats of those resources for each weapon. Start stockpiling now. Wish I would have known/done all that.
