Thread: Read the FAQ and find that blaster pistol barrel can't be the best way!

Hey Guys and Gals,

Is it possible that the dev toned down the XP given on the blaster pistol barrel? I get something like 40XP / barrel. THAT SUCKS! I have like 30000 XP to go! There has got to be a better way. When I grind a complete pistol, that gives me about 500 XP. That is more reasonable.

So is that really the anwser to all my grinding needs?

Two words......Practice mode.

In practice you get plus 1/3'd the XP for each blaster barrel

it works out to about 63 xp for each craft

You're grinding the wrong barrel. You need to do the Projectile Pistol/Rifle barrel.

BTW, genius, a Complete Gun (D18) takes a Power Handler, a Barrel, and a Scope. That's 3 sub-combines. SO using your number, that's 500/4 combines, which is 125 XP per item (you're wrong on the numbers, btw, it's much less). Not to mention the fact that you had to do about 4-5 double-clicks for each item. That's about 20 clicks for 500 XP. The Projectile Barrels are 2 clicks for like 80 XP or so. Much better XP/Click ratio, plus you only need 1 resource, plus you never have to worry about subcombines, so your inventory stays clear.

Greets ...

Grinding guns *seems* less tedious ... but it's really faster to grind projectile barrels.

You generally get 2-1 in xp for each resource used. Plus 5% if you check the little practice box :-)

So ... no matter how you slice the pie, your going to need 450kish of resources to master weaponsmith.

With the barrels ... if your hard core ... don't have to go to the bathroom ... and havesobody right there to skill you up ... it feasible to do the entire grind in 8 hours ... if you can maintain a 3 second build sequence. (1 projectile barrel ever 3 seconds).

Basically once you get FAI ... you do barrels ... and lots of them ... 9,160 of them ... then you are master.

Welcome to our grind ...

I think metal staffs are better at novice, they're almost as good as the proj rifle barrel.

POKEY THE PENGUIN SIG REMOVED BY GARVA BECAUSE "Just because you are crafty enough to get around the technicality of it being a .jpg or .gif does not mean it is not an image, it is not ascii art, it is an image" SO HERE IS MY NEW SIG.

lots of us don't think in terms of metal staves... but yeah, Jennai is right, those are probably better than proj pistol (although twice as many clicks?)

1/3? Your practice mode is allowing you to exploit. j/k

Practice only adds an extra 5% - so for every 100xp, you get a measley 5 more. Not bad. But not great.

Yeah your using the wrong thing it should be rifle barrels not pistol.

However, do your self a favor and check to see if resources for the heavywar head mechs are aviliable. I was a little lucky and had thoranium steel aviliable when I started. I was able to get over2/3 through master in 2 days and keep my sanity by doing these combines. They give over 700 exp per combine!!!

If you can get the resources its the only way to go.

I'm slowly doing the grind, and the best thing I've found so far (I'm now at 2/2/0/1) is 2-handed Axes. Just make yourself a 1000 item factory run onreinforcement cores, and start clicking. 35 iron, 25 wood, 8 steel +1 core = 68 resources = 136XP + 5% for practice. With no requirements for a crafting station, there's no stopping to experiment, and you can do it while running. IWith 4 crafting tools, I've burned through 200 combines in half an hour, as long as people leave me alone.

When I worked up to MWS, I did it on proj. pistol barrels and gaffi sticks. All depended on if I could get a good source of iron or steel at the time. Haven't made a gaffi stick since (Thank God!) so I don't remember if they changed the schem to require a reinforcement core or not.

i read that blaster rifle barrel is best as it requires 53 metals and 5 crystalline gemstones for 120xp... it requires a station though and the /sel # changes as you progress up the firearm line... kinda annoying... im at 0-4-0-0 and i can't find the number for it anymore lol
