Thread: Weapon customization and diversity!!!
Oooooooh, here's a novel idea.
If any of you read my comments in a thread regarding smugglers, or whomever, buying out your vendors in the hopes of getting one good slice and trashing the rest.. then this might make a bit more sense. I will not re-state anything I did in the other thread, but what I will do is get to the blasted point before you guys threaten me with torture..
After a slice has been completed is should display the outcome somewhere on the weapon, in color, probably yellow since yellow seems to indicate anything exceptional, or above average. Or perhaps you could even use different colors for each slice type... For example, your VK just sliced for 23% damage... so now the weapon displays this result when you examine it, so you know EXACTLY what you are getting. There is nothing more annoying than going to a weaponsmith 'sliced' vendor, only to take a glance at the sliced stock and curse under your breath while plotting the demise of the lowly shop owner. Reason for this? Well for one thing, how in the fark can anyone tell what's been sliced, and for how much, on your vendor? Or mine? You can't unless you enjoy doing the math to detemine a percent. Why not just DISPLAY the result on the weapon? A speed slice shows up in green, and a damage slice shows up in red... problem solved, no more guesswork.
Why would this be even remotely useful?
1> You know exactly what you're getting without having to take someones word for it.
2> Players can actually scan your 'sliced weapons' vendor and not fry their last brain cell trying to figure out percentages, and whether they should buy that weapon at a higher cost, or buy out your unsliced stock and hit up a Smuggler on the way back into town..
3> The weapon has been changed/altered, and should thus reflect it by letting the owner, or prospective buyer actually SEE what changes have been made.
4> When I'm digging through my weapon stock to find another weapon to replace the one I just flubbed the repair check on then I won't lose my sanity and spend the next 3 hours running around Coronet screaming at the top of my lungs while spamming /backhand & /unarmed3 at every gubbar I pass.
5> I makes things so much easier, cleaner, and removes any and all grey areas regarding the finished/sliced product.
I know that most of that list is basically the same thing, just worded differently, but I wanted to make a point.. even if I did it badly. Weapon customization is zero.. we can't pick color, style, blade length, runes, designs carved into the metal, or anything... we have the power to make it fast and deal out damage.. a monkey with the right resources could do that.. We as people and dedicated player LIKE diversity.. we LIKE being able to customize our cherished creations.. we LIKE having something that every other player and their pet gurreck doesn't have.. We NEED to be able to make something besides cookie cutter weapons, and weapons that are of supreme quality should LOOK different than the crap weapons that were constructed after a long night of InGame binge drinking. The quality should show in the finished product visually, cosmetically, and any additional features, such as rare component drops/tissues/slice outcome, etc, should be displayed plainly yet colorfully.
Give our weapons more diversity.
Allow us the freedom to customize Bob's sword by making the hilt out of carved ivory from the tusk of one of those bigass elephant things on Dantooine. (sorry, can't think of the name.. need sleep
). Perhaps we can use a phosphorous compound to etch runes in the blade.. runes that actually show up InGame when the weapon is wielded, glowing faintly yet mysteriously.
One other thing... why does this game call a Force Pike a Vibro Lance? (yes, off topic, but I'm tired of makign countless threads) I have the sourcebooks to back up the fact that it's supposed to be called a Force Pike.. unless I'm retarded, which shouldn't be ruled out.

Well now when we cant add custom colour names to items. It would be nice then after slice we would get xx% added to in front of name in different colours.
As long it get auto added after slice i se no harm.
