So I am sitting there at the bazaar loading on my last prepatch DX2's when suddenly this occurs to me:

Why is it that they can change the stats on old weapons like the prepatch scatters and fw's to use "the new schematic" when pulled from the crate, but still I am sitting here loading old DX2's onto the bazaar because they have lower accuracy bonuses than the current version. If they can change weapons to reflect current stats or schematics, why didn't they change the already mad eDX2's to reflect the accuracy changes? Why exactly did I have to waste resources when I had batches of them made already if they can just presto chango the stats anyhow? Yet again another rub. I would ask that in the future if the devs decide to change weapon stats that they use this new found abilty to actually....you know...help us for once.

Good call, but I figure that their explanation of using 'the new schematic' is just fishy, period. They say it will be crafted 'minus the power handler'. Well unless they keep track of every power handler that went into making every FWG5 prenerf there is no way they can accurately do this. Handlers vary, especially between regular and advanced handlers. If they are keeping all the info on each component that went into making every crafted item, then there's your data bloat right there.

So - I think it's just an arbitrary number they will subtract and pretend like it's been redone sans handler. They'll just take the damage and speed and subtract around 40 from the former and 0.4 from the latter, say it's minus the handler and whistle a tune.

If I am totally wrong and they do keep track of every component then I'd have to ask why they are not changing this instead of limiting vendors for data bloat.

Or I could just be wrong on any paradigm, but I'm just making judgement calls

I was reading through a few of the boards and came across this little bit on the arch forums.

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=architect&message.id=48955

After reading this a question popped into my mind. If the game truly does a little insta craft session when you pull an item out of a crate, shouldn't the inferior similar parts used as sub components take effect in the crafting stations attributes? If the crafting system works as they are insinuating it does, wouldn't the the insta craft session take into account the sub parts being used in the factory stage here and later again when it was pulled from a crate?

I would go on a bit more, but it is late and my mind is shutting down. Just giving everyone something else to think on.

And that is my point. I think as usual TH is full of crap, I don't think the crates are "isnta crafting the item to the current schematic" in the sense that is why our prepatch crates stopped working.. I think crates in general are a marker for those specific stats, and they "pull" those weapons into being when we craft them. I think there is some clumsy handed tom foolery that is going on in the whole prepatch fw fix. Like I said if it was so easy to just fippitey flop the prepatch, why arent they doning that when they change INNATE weapon stats like the DX2...why did we get stuck with crates of crappy weaponsthat we could make better. The way TH explained it they should just be able to wave a coding wand and change stats whenever. Again we get screwed....somehow they have the abilty to lower stats of existing weapons when they make a change, but by that same token they lack the abilty to change the stats on existing weapon crates. I call BS.

Uh huh... Exactly the same thing as with the homes. Howcome prepatch homes weren't buildable on Dantooine?

Just goes to show that the "developers" are lazy, rude, inconsiderate and suffer from a total lack of creativity not to mention their oversized egos.

From TH's description, it sounds like a crate contains data on every component and resource used to make the item, and when you take an item out it instantly crafts the item using the stored component data. If this is correct (and it may very well be wrong since it's only been said by TH) it seems like the programmers made an ugly hack reusing code from factories so they wouldn't have to write a proper system to handle crates, and it's probably a significant factor in their database load problems.
