I am gathering resources to have a WS make me a Featherweight FWG5. I am trying to have the best possible gun made.
Here is what I have so far-
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Link Alum Steel OQ826 CD651
Ditanium Steel OQ932 CD432
Axide Iron OQ988 CD177
Advanced Projectile Pistol Barrel
Plumbum Iron SR 488 HR 560
Duralloy Steal SR986 HR1000
Duralloy Steal SR986 HR1000
Advanced Projectile Feed Mechanism
Quadranium Steel UT 898
Axide Iron UT 646
Axide Iron UT 646
Reinforced Casing
MD 184
AS -0.79
AC -7
Advanced Weapon Scope
AS -0.77
W 8
AB 44
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I did my homework and am pretty sure these are very close to as good as it gets with exception to the ultra rare spwans.
Do these look good enough to make a capped (as many stats capped as possible) gun?
If not, where are my weaknesses?
Next I have to pick a WS from a short list :0

What server are you on, and you may just find that your local WS has them 'ultra rare' resources already....

Link Alum Steel OQ826 CD651 Poor resource - 12th best - can do better
Ditanium Steel OQ932 CD432 Best on server
Axide Iron OQ988 CD177 4th best - smith may have better
Advanced Projectile Pistol Barrel
Plumbum Iron SR 488 HR 560 8th best - I expect your smith could do better
Duralloy Steal SR986 HR1000 3rd best - smith may have better
Advanced Projectile Feed Mechanism
Quadranium Steel UT 898 Best on server
Axide Iron UT 646 A better resource called Siama was in spawn only 2 weeks ago
Reinforced Casing
MD 184
AS -0.79
AC -7
Advanced Weapon Scope
AS -0.77

This looks like the 4th best on swgcraft and is 44 combined points behind number 1
Plumbum Iron SR 488 HR 560 8th best - I expect your smith could do better
Looks like the 4th best with ties and duplicate entries on SWGCraft. 13 combined points behind #1.
Duralloy Steal SR986 HR1000 3rd best - smith may have better
Hard to believe this is not the best /gasp It is 3 combined points lower than the best lol
Axide IronUT 646 A better resource called Siama was in spawn only 2 weeks ago
Nobody, that is searchable, has anySiama is 2 combined points higher...

Quite the sleuth
edit - shug may be correct below... looking into it
The way named resources are calculated after the CU changed some what, and to understand what is best you need to understand the full impact of gated resources. The % experimentation is based on how high the resource is within the gated range, so for example if you look at the following two resources, say both kam iron for AS - that's OK/SR(I know about this cos I was an AS for the longest time), what do you think is better...
oq 500 sr 990
oq 900 sr 910
The first resource is way better as the gated range for sr on kam iron is about 900 to 1000, thus the real % experimentation is as follows....
oq 500 = 50% sr 990 = 90% thus average = 70%
oq 900 = 90% sr 910 = 10% thus average = 50%
as a rule of thumb when working with named resources on SWG craft stack the % weighting about 80% oq 20% other (or even 90/10) and you will get better results. This only comes into play when using OQ asa stat on named resources, as it is the only ungated resource thus has a range of 0 to 1000, when doing HR/SR for example stick to 50/50....
Does all that make sense?
PS the CD on that link steel alu sucks big time that's what drags it down.

It's based on 0-max value not min-max value. so 910 = 91%
If shug is correct - and I have no reason to doubt him - cos this would also fit in with what I see, CD on link steel alu caps at about 750, this would make a 40/60 (oq/cd) weighting for link steel alu about correct....

that link steel may indeed be 4th best.... Shug do you have any supporting info?
would also make the gated resource more critical as the gate gets lower - so CD on that iron should be critical.... The ax iron would be 80/20, correct shug?

Oh boy!! This just snowballed on me lol Just when I thought I had a handle on this!! Now I got to dig deep and understand the formuli, I guess
BTW - I meant all the WS that understood their profession seem to have retired because they no longer need the credits. They, most likely, just make weapons for fun and friends and stockpile the best resources even though they will never use them

How importand are the little points? From my search, I think all my resources are within 15 points of the best with exception to one that is 44 points behind (it was all that was avail and not cheap!!)
Thanks for the help. Maybe today I will finally get my gun /cheer
BTW - I don't think Gorath has any *real* WS anymore. The ones that know what they are doing are too rich to be concerned (I don't blame them). All of them I talk to seem pretty clueless about what they *could* do if they had the right stuff. I spent one day researching this stuff and tracking down supplies. Not a hard task... Anyways, I don't want to take any chances with their resources if I don't have too. I got alot of credits wrapped up in this and don't want to take ANY chances... besides, its kind of fun
Maybe I'll buy a +25/+25 suit and respec to WS

If they're too rich to be concerned they probably aren't actually the best WS. Bank balance is not a good way to gauge a WS's competence.
