What changed my mind was something posted on the smuggler boards along the lines of:

Illegal Booster Core and Simple Tool Kit applied to a 1000 max damage rifle: 80 damage - 1,000,000/80 = 12.5k / point
4x Krayt Tissues 173 damage = 11,000,000 = 11,000,000/173 = 65k/point
4x Krayt Tissues 120 damage = 2,000,000 = 16.5k/point
4x Krayt Tissues 80 damage = 1,000,000... hmmm.

Sorry forgot to add a conclusion...

So, spend 11 million for a capped SAC and damage rifle, or spend 3 million for a sliced capped max damage rifle with 82 SAC. Sounds logical to me.

I agree....I certainly wopuldn't spend a fourtune on a slicing component that cannot allow my weapons to beat a slice cap that is beneath the crafting cap! Yes....players need to be educated, but when this situation was reported here and on the Smugglers' forum, it seemd to have fallen on 'blind eyes'. Smugglers seem more focused on wanting 'smuggling' things to do and better component drops than the problem with the actual slicing itself. My smuggler alt waits for a fix for his profession......

I can only educatemy guidlies, associates and regulars I deal with and spare them frustration of a costly mistake. I am holding onto my Illegal Core Boosters for now (but it is so tempting to sell them).

only thing i can see using them on are very fast looted weapons with ok SAC that won't hit the cap.

as a slicer and a rifleman i spent 8m on my sac capped rifle

done a 1m slice (8% dmg, 2% speed and 3% critical)

and got a damage and sac capped t21

that together with a 36% damage pup

speeds a little slow tho so am stocking up on me gen ranged speed (am already capped on rifle speed at +25)

I do agree.... I was a little peeved by the prices of ICB's on Intrepid also (1mil upwards) - but I saw a similar post comparing the price of krayt tissues\gorax shards and ICB's and it does seem reasonable now.

At the end of the day, they are only so expensive cause they are so hard to get. Its not like they drop as often as the delecate trigger assemblies for example, which I can get on my server from anything from 5-50k.

Unless i'm mistaken, my point is you cannot get a damage capped weapon with these, only a slice capped weapon. And the tissues to make a comparable krayt weapon (+8% or about +80 on an adv Laser) should not be very much more (should be less actually) than the 1-1.5 mil I have seen these sell for, and you would have the benefit of a far cheaper speed slice. In the end you would have the same rifle with atier 4speed slice. So which is better?

...Ouch Chimera is getting 8 mil for SAC capped t-21? they use two entire resource deeds in that thing?

I think the core boosters are still quite rare, lucky i salvaged one from my old WUKS hehe.

yes you would, but if you just put the 1mil into so-so krayt and put 2 speed slices and 2 damage slices on it it would be better. The point is that 1mil for 40 damage is crazy. Hell you get 20 from a pre-cu stock and i don't see them selling for 500k.
