Thread: A couple questions, I can't find answers too
Stocks add damage at the expense of a tiny bit of speed (usually about .5) and adds 20-30 HAM.
Scopes will add a range modifier to your weapons ideal range. If you have never bothered to use you weapons ideal range in the first place then you really do not need the ham cost. Just ask the weaponsmith to scope it with a one ham point scope. You get ten more points to your range modifier and if you get lucky the range modifier will add more damage to your attack. Technically if you are a proficient marksman, and play to your weapons ideal ranges haveing a powerful scope is like adding on a second weapons power on to yours. If you run around like a school girl trying not to get hit range modifiers are worthless to you.
Scopes can also increase your weapons wound chance. Though the whole concept of wound seems a bit funky. It acts something like an aftertaste to any shot that connects, and its like 1 point. So do not even bother with it.
A stock can increase damage and ideal range. Though its always better to go with damage. A good stock will add 30 30 damage to a weapon. Makes it a bit slower, and adds ham cost. I have noticed that a stock will add .3 to the speed of the weapon, but if your a high level class like pistoleer or riflemen. Your characters natural bonus maxes you out anyway.
Those teeth blow man plain out and out suck. All rancor teeth suck. The range of damage is the problem. Say the weaponsmith makes a 100 to 200 damage weapon. With those they will make a 30 400 weapon. That is not very good. You will land everywhere in that feild more often then not you will land on the short end of the feild. Result awesome looking weapon doing 34 point hits. Only the most dedicated and strategic minds can apply a weapon like this. If you are even the least bit careless about it this weapon will kill you. Scarey as it seems a 60 - 90 tooth would be better. Bottom line that bottom damage matters just as much as the high end damage. This is why their is no market for rancor teeth short of decorative weapons.
You guys rock, seriously, that totally answers my questions....
And nice point about min dmg on teeth, I understand a lot more now on them.

Now, I'll admit that I don't have a lot of combat experience under my belt. But, at the same time, I think I'm going to have to disagree with the idea that a 30/400 weapon is worse than a 100/200 weapon.
Let's look at simple math. Now, I'm sure that this is unrealistic as I honestly know nothing about melee weapons (ranged weapon crafting specialist). Let's pick a random number like 2.2 for speed on that weapon.
Damage Per Second
(100 + 200)/2/2.2 ~ 68DPS
(30 + 400)/2/2.2 ~ 98DPS
HUGE difference. And, honestly, since DPS is the only real across the board measurement for weapons (though it cannot be perfectly accurate because people miss), I would have to say that even if you do hit for 34 points at times, the rancor tooth weapon (30/400) is by far the better weapon...by a solid, proven 30 damage points per second.

Anian, you are assuming that there is an equal chance of rolling a high damage hit as there is rolling a low dmg one. They are not the same.
Most of your shots will land in the bottom Third of the damage range. Easy enough to figure out.. Use a weapon with a high delta Max - Min dmg and kill something that takes 20-30 hits. Then scroll back thru your combat window and jot down the damage taken. Do a simple bar chart on the damage done and see how many fall into which zones.
So your linear formula appears ok.. at first glance. But in reality, the lower damage Does matter. A ton.
Oh.. forgot to add one more comment to the original poster's questions..
As a Master Rifleman, I always make my rifles with Stocks. They add 35-40 more damage points. With Musician Buffs and a shot of brandy, I can spam SF2 all day and not mind the additional HAM.
A stock on a carbine will generally kill the shooter. However, there aer soem very nice specalty Form-Fitted stocks from one of the quests that adds a respectable amount of damage to a carbone and NO HAM.
I've added scopes to scatte pistols a few times for customers who want theireye shotto stick better. One I made had +70 at ideal range. She loved it.
So adding scopes and stocks are good for some customers and deadly for others. A Non-Master rifleman will soon learn that the extra speed is what he needs while training rather than the extra damage.
But when a Novice Rifleman aks me for a max dmg rifle and has no issues with the added HAM costs.. I make him one. My Customers are always right.
Do any MOBs have damage mitigation or is it only players?
