Thread: New Weapons For Species

I think the wookie idea regarded them being able to craft Bow Casters is good. But what about other species. If each planet has its different customs and norms it think its logical that they would have there own weapons that only that species can use. It should be possible for, Lets say, mon cals to beable to make a specific weapon that is familiar to the mon cal species, such as, since a Mon Calamar is a watery planet, it could be a liquid (acid based) rifle. Same for zarbraks, what about a duel bladed polearm (that might be to specific to the movies)etc etc etc. that just my credits worth

i wasnt really saying the bowcaster was good, i was just saying it was an idea, perhaps a revamp is required. But i think it would givea sence of identity to species other than just say appearence. what do yall think could be done

I think it'd be awesome if each species had a unique weapon and each profession had at least one unique weapon. Maybe someday.

Well one must consider the thing in it's best and entire state. Loot bowcasters surely aren't impressive (most of the time) - however dependent on resources you can get 160ish-290ish/5.2ish bowcasters. They have no AP and are energy and that surely holds them back but the bottom line is it's a no cert weapon. I doubt there is a better weapon out there that a wookiee with no marksman can use.

I wish they made a cert'ed caster and beefed it up, so we'd see more wookiees using it.

But to the original point - it would be neat to see but they seem to have enough trouble bringing in weapons everyone can use let alone introduce a whole bunch of race specific ones. They take months to fix typos.

Hehe I can be seen carrying one around whenever I am not in serious combat and it does hold its own in its place and at least I am guaranteed I never have to use a CDEF (just wish Rykk's were wookiee only too).

DItto!

Wow you mean we can actually use C12's now? lol at any rate the first thing I do when I get ingame is check that cert! but for sure its a great idea but given whats going on with the publish cycle I am not sure they could fit it in (remember it requires artwork etc and lucas has to approve it which means you would have to find one in the EU almost)

To play Devil's Advocate here, the US has different customs than Germany, but we still use Walther pistols over here. We may have different customs than Japan, but we still drive Toyotas.

Weapons (of any kind....tanks, airplanes, ships, and guns) all have the same general idea across the board in real life. Yes, the SU-38 Russian Jet Fighter has some differences and some one-ups on the F-22 Raptor American Jet Fighter. But, they both hold the same general core idea...thrust vectoring.

So, do I think each race should have different weapons...nah. I'm sure there was plenty of intergalactic trade going on where many species across many planets used the same weapons.

Your analogy is a tad flawed - and to boot seems to show a rather disturbing point of view you've taken. You see - Americans, Germans, Japanese, what have you - are all the same species - we are all human, despite the beliefs of far, far too many people in the world. That you are comparing humans versus rodians versus wookiees as to being the same league as Americans versus Germans versus Japanese begs the question - do you see people of different race to be another entirely different species to you?

Additionally, the thrust behind the bowcaster being wookiee only stems from the fact you need a wookiee's strength and size to arm the thing. Technically, anyone of the right size and strength could therefore do it but I don't believe there is a model in game to simulate this fact.

Carrying on that line though, I am not sure what you could come up with as a racial restriction for new weapons. Wookiees have extreme size and strength which gives a nice premise to way other races cannot use the bowcaster. I'm not sure what else you can say that any other race has overriding above others that would constitute a physical, and not a technological stumbling block in trans-technology weapon use. No one's saying principles of ballistics and lasers and so onisn't transcendent, but the delivery is different and can be used as base for racial specific stuff. Now in your analogy you compared humans versus say, goats- both uses kinetic energy as a principle - but we for example use firearms whereas goats use their big rams. Same idea - kinetic impact - different delivery system Ballistics - human rockets versus those spitting fish that hurl gobs of water to knock insects out for food.

And Quagga, nope, our C12 cert is still busted. What the hey, eh?

C12 has issues? I sell them by the crate to people needing to spam lairs for combat XP. Been selling them cheap since everyone can use them. Cryoban and glop to the commandos, the rest are mainly novelties

I think race specific weapons would be great. And there are grounds for it in the EU. Rodians for example had ceremonial slug-throwing rifles and specialized thrown bladed things. Also I believe I Mon Cals had specialized weapons as well but would have to look into it. And I distinctly recall reading in something for the current SW Table-top, while not canon it is sanctioned by Lucas, that zabraks(sp?) had polearm type weapons that they trained in from youth on their home planet. So the basis for species specific weapons exists in currently sanctioned products. But if the devs ever roll this out I doubt it will be before the combat revamp.
