Do weaponsmiths have a better chance of repairing weapons than a non-weaponsmith?

Also, when is the best time to repair a weapon?

No, a weaponsmith can make a goos repair tool. best i've made is 70.698.

I used 989 Conductivity copper with a +41 crafting station. Though i'm not sure if a master artisan can make them better. Once the tool is made, its the same for everyone who uses it.

Best time, not sure

Yes, Weaponsmiths get a bonus to repair so havea Master WS repair you weapon for you.

Also, you should try to get them repaired when they are right about 50% Durability. I believe once it starts dropping below that your chances for a good repair start to drop considerably.

Generally I've found this to be accurate, but it could also be a funtion of the tools, +6 repair coat and 99% repair tool.

The tool is not the same for everyone using it, trust me on this one.

And if you used 989 Conductivity Copper for a repair kit you should end up with a 98.9 Effective Repair Kit. I used 995 CD Copper on Naritus to make 99.5% Effective Repair Kits (wish I had the coat the other poster has though).

The points of repairing as I understand them are:

  • Use the best Repair Kit you can make (most Masters should be able to get on above 90% no problem)

  • Repair the gun before it hits 50%... you'll be happier with the results

  • Only get a Master WS to repair it.... anyone else and you have a greater chance for a poor repair

  • Always offer to pay for the repair (I do it for free but it's still nice to get the offer)

That's really about it.

I disagree. I've been making 97% tools since I started Weaponsmith, but I've always had terrible luck repairing weapons. Ever since I finished of the Expert Weaponsmith tree and got all of my skill bonuses, I haven't ruined a weapon yet. Don't think that's just coincidence.

I can honestly speak on this issue with 100% truth. Its the tool and NOT the person at this point. I have never broken a weapon and repair hundreds of weapons. If the tool is crap say good bye to your weapon. And if you have tools pre tool patch change, you will never break your weapon.. I have tons of those and you cannot break a weapon with good quality old tools period!

This is nonsense. I have crates of 99.9 tools from months ago and I break at least one in every ten weapons.

That said,

- Weapon Repair Tools are an Artisan item, not a Weaponsmith item. If you want to make the best Repair tools, you should be a Master Artisan, as it's not dependent off of Weaponsmith experimentation.

- A few patches ago changed how Repair worked: a.) The lower condition of the item, the higher the chance for failure and b.) Weaponsmiths have a higher chance of success when repairing weapons than non-Weaponsmiths.

There has been no ground-breaking evidence to prove the patch changes as truth, unfortunately, but it is still recommended that you have a Weaponsmith attempt at repairing if you value your weapon.
