Thread: Question about new weapon certification?

I've heard rumours that the new weapon certifications cannot even be 'held' by players uncerted for them? Is this true, and if so I was curious as to why?

Being able to hold a weapon yet not use it with any sort of efficiency if you were not certed for it, was one of the things I loved about this game. =/

I'd be sad to see this go away, as it kind of kills some roleplay ideas and concepts for the roleplay communities, I would think. I'm a Doctor/MCM....I also occassionally like to play a stormtrooper for roleplay nights, etc with others. Well..aside from being short, I look a little silly holding my pistol in stormtrooper armour. So a guild mate will often lend me a stormtrooper rifle or carbine...for effect only, as I'm not certed to use it, it does virtually no damage. And since I'm a CM/Doc..I spend most of my time healing anyway.

If it's true you can't even 'hold' the uncerted weapons any longer...well...I can't say as I'm happy about that. :/

Does anyone know if this is true?

Sorry pal. It is true... You can't equip weaps you aren't certed for. HOWever, as is always the case, this product is not final. In other words, what you see now may change. But no, you can't yield weapons you are not certified for. Why... I dunno... I guess to try and avoid easy novice grind with exceptional loot weapons or such... Ie the berserk/VK trick.. but honestly, I don't know...

Well it's true that you cannot equip any weapon that you're not certified for; however, you can still equip and use with some degree of effecientcy any CDEF weapon. Since the developers are rather lazy at times when it comes to images for weapons you could always equip the CDEF rifle as it's the same image as the DLT20 and DLT20a. The DLT19/20/a are used by Stormtrooper platoons for rifle support as these are more for the percision attacks where the T21's are used as squad support weapons since they're a light repeating rifle. (Technically the DLT19/20/a was modeled off of the German MG32/42 light machine guns used by platoons for support. Being light weight and having a high rate of fire made these perfect for their role of support. The T21 is copied from the Lewis machine gun used between WWI and WWII to which was used early on in WWII as the allies light machine gun for support.)

The only problem you'd run into will be the use of battle armor or any factional armor as of right now. I could be wrong as I didn't check out the Doctor and Combat Medic armor certificates (if any) as their roles are now more into combat than before. The shame part is if the same holds true with armor as it does with weapons being that I'm going for a Rifleman / Ranger build I can only wear scout armor which is fine though I still like the look and feel of ST armor (now called "Imperial Battle Armor"). I'd hope that the devs will reconsider this as if the changes go in right now I have a full suit of ST armor I'll never be able to use again since I won't be certified to wear it.
