I am exploring the idea of forming an information exchange (i.e. specific resource locations/concentrations) between serious miners of resources used by weaponsmiths. Between my own surveying and visiting swgcraft.com it's not too difficult to keep up with what is currently available, but if you are mining several resources at a time and those resources are available on several planets, it can be tough to spend the time necessary to find the absolute best concentration available, so sometimes you end up settling for a 65% concentration when there's actually a 90% concentration out there if you only had the time and the luck to find it.
The number of participants would be somewhat limited to enable the exchange to keep track of each player's contribution, but we'd try to have participants from each of the planets to make sure we have each planet covered as well as possible. Unlike swgcraft, we'd actually exchange waypoints/concentrations for resources, so passive participation would not be an option. We'd develop some way of rating player contributions (probably something like # of wp's provided x concentration)and players would be rewarded for the quality of their information and penalized or removed from the group if they don't provide quality information. For example, a player who consistenly contributes quality spots will always get the best waypoints available for a specific resource. Someone else who isn't as active but still contributes will be provided with waypoints, but they won't always necessarily be the best available. Players who are trying to use the system for their own benefit without contributing will be removed to make room for more productive contributors.
At least at first, I would send an email out to exchange members (probably daily) with updated waypoints locs. If the idea was successful we could set up a board and have different levels of access depending on the players contribution rating. In order to encourage participation by miners who mine to sell, and therefore might not want to participate in something that might cause other players to stampede to their favorite spot, we would probably ask our players not to share this information outside of the exchange, though that would impossible to enforce.
This is just an idea, so feel free to weigh in with other suggestions and let me know if you'd be interested. If there are any such info exchanges already in place, please let me know as I"m not a glutton for re-inventing the wheel if it's already been done.
