Yesterday I got an email that looked a lot like someone just transferred 800k to my account ('So and so has just transferred 800000 credits to your account from escrow', or such). I thought it was odd and was about to ask the guy what's up, then I get another email from this person asking how many grenades he can get for that. I reply that I don't do munitions, and refer him to someone who does, and just to be polite Ido a little calculation and tell him how many crates of grenades he can get at the Munition vendor's prices. Then I get the next email thanking me for my time and asking me to please xfer his money back to him...

Ok... I guess if I was a wealthy, long-time WS I might have millions in my account and might not notice that I'm going to be 800K short... but a) I'm a new WS and tend to make weapons for my guild and my Primary chars, so I don't have a huge profit margine, b) I had just rebuilt my harvester fleet and resource stockpile, so c) I don't even HAVE 800K in this char's account... Either SOE has a slight bug in their money xfer process or this guy decided to email me a letter mimicing a money xfer in an attempt to scam me out of 800k creds.

So either way I replied that there might be a problem because I did not get the cash, but that I would be happy to submit a CSR ticket to see if they can help him. He replies w/ 'Oh, wow... Bummer.' and asks me toplease submit a ticket and he would do the same... I don't know about you, but that's pretty casual for someone who lost nearly a million creds...

Either way, it's all in the CSR's handsbecauaseI documented it all, kept the emailsand submitted the ticket. I just wanted to know if anyone has seem something similar and wether it was a confirmed bug or just another loser trying to scam players out of credits.

SCAM. I have seen a few instances of this. Many people have been doing this to DOC's buffing. Not seen it in this large amount but I would expect it as a scam. It is possible that it got stuck in escrow but who knows.

This sounds like a scam but then again it could be the buggy mail transfer. A few weeks ago, I sent someone a million credits for resources- it got deleted from my account but I never got the mail that it had gone to his account. He never got the money either. It just disappeared.

I sent in a ticket asking why I never got the delivery mail- the response was just to file a bug report-they were sorry and to delete the ticket.

Still I realize your situation is different but knowing how bugged this thing can be I now only do money transfers in the trade window.

This guy's name is Exon on the Radiant Server. He tried the exact same SCAM on me yesterday. He acts all polite about it. I am going to point the CSRs to this post. Beware of this guy on the Radiant server, he is a scammer.

Scammer. Look at the name... is it just one name or is it his full name? LOL.. i seem to remember a time when the bank tip mails were not sent by the bank tipper but something like "Bank". Now though, it is very easy to just write up an email with the exact text you get from bank tip and pretend like you've tipped. Personally, I run only with cash so this won't work on me. Besides, NOBODY tips 800k credits before getting a service or even asking for it... lol... what an uber doork. Yeah right like hes going to spend 800k on GRENADES? jeez.. what a ... at any rate yah hes a scammer. You should /report him not file a ticket.

Gentlemen and Ladies. To be honest i know Exon and i would be truly shocked to believe that he is scaming. In the 3 month odd time i have known him he has never treated me with anything but respect and honesty. I suggest you actualy find some proof to a scam...before throwing blame. I myself will ask Exon about this situation but i again would be hesitiant to blame him for a scam untill your are 100% sure.

not sure I know where to start on this one...I was ready to post a defense here when the boards came down briefly. that gave me a chance to speak with Exon about these accusations. He has admitted to what has been posted here. I am truly shocked. I have and always willstand behind my guild members as they weare my tag. Though he no longer wears this tag, I will clear any outstanding debt he has incured as during the time he has been with me. I trust your honesty in reporting anything further to me and I request that it be done in game either through tells or emails.

If you want to be sure if it's a scam or not, try this: Have someone you know bank tip you any amount of credits (1 credit is fine, the amount doesn't matter). Compare the format of the name display from the positive bank tip email from your friend to the possible scam bank tip email (example: email name display 'John Smith', as opposed to 'John smith'). If they're both the same format (first + last capitalized) then they're both legit. If they're not both the same then that means the possible scam email IS in fact a scam. This worked last time I checked when my friend tried to trick me a while back as a joke. I didn't believe it was real to begin with, so I compared it to the real deal and this was the ONLY difference I noticed.

I just tested it and the format for a legit bank transfer is first + last, all lowercase letters. If it were a scam email there would be no last name included in the name display.

Legit email name display:

teetoe fhett

Scam email name display:

teetoe

Now you can tell for sure if it was real or not.
